Lot 178.  Circa 1910 PC798-6 Comic Postcard Partial Set by P. Crosby – 9 of 12 Cards. These cards offer humorous sepia drawings on cream-colored stock that has an embossed border. The titles are “A Nice Little Single for an Old Bat,” “A Triple Steal,” “Brought Home with a Hit,” “He Bit at Every Ball,” “He Made a Hit and Got Two Bags,” “Hitting the Old Drops,” “Out on Three Strikes,” “Second Baseman Made a Swell Catch” and “The Ball Went Through the Short-Stop.” The backs have never encountered a postage or postmark stamp. Vg-ex to ex.

Lot 179.  5 Different 1910 PC798-9 Colonial Art Comic Postcards. F. G. Henry & Co. of New York published these sepia postcards. From a set of nine, the five titles are: “A chance play,” “A Sacrifice,” “A Steal,” “Catching a hot one” and “Covering left field.” Three cards have messages and postmarks on the back. Vg.

Lot 180.  6 Different 1910 PC798-10 Roth & Langley Comic Postcards – Title at the Bottom. Roth & Langley used various type styles for the titles of these cards and placed the title at the top or bottom. All of these cards have the title in a serif type at the bottom: “A Close Game” g, “Catching a Fly” g, “Double Play” f-g, “Line Hit” (writing on the front) p, “Over the Fence is Out” vg+ and “The Game” f-g. Five cards have messages and postmarks on the back.

Lot 181.  8 Different 1910 PC798-10 Roth & Langley Comic Postcards – Title at the Top. From a set of 24, these cards have the title at the top in a serif type. Roth & Langley used various type styles for the titles of these cards and placed the title at the top or bottom. The cards are: “A Balk” (message and postmark on the back) f, “A Close Decision” ex+, “A Close Game” (message and postmark on the back) vg, “Line Hit” vg+, “Safe” vg, “Safe at First” vg, “Score 1 to 1” vg-ex and “The Hits of the Game” vg.

Lot 182.  2 1908 PC798-14 H M Rose Crossed Bats and Ball Comic Postcards. The fronts of these embossed cards contain a verse and “WH” within a circle. A card with a well dressed man and woman begins “Money to spare he never has.” Vg-ex. The other, with a large man in a suit, opens with “Hurrah! Hurrah! He’s filled with joy. Forgets about his gout.” G. Each card has a postage and postmark stamp on the back along with a written message.

Lot 183.  2 1909 PC798-24 “Boston Baseball Series” Comic Postcards by O. D. Williams. These colorful and entertaining cards are from a set of 12. Offered here are #105 “Hey! Youse watch me swipe it” f-g and 111 “I may be a little dusty but dey aint no flies on me.” The title is missing from the latter card, and in the blank space, someone has written in pencil, “Oh you Honus Wag(ner).” It is signed “Charlie.” G. Each card has a message and postmark on the back. One card is postmarked 1909, and the other, 1910.

Lot 184.  3 Different Circa 1910-15 PC798-32 “720 Series” Comic Postcards. These pastel cards typically show a man in business clothes and a woman in a dress. From a set of 12, the cards are “A Base Hit” g-vg, “A base on balls” f and “In a Tight Place” g-vg. All have a message and postmark.

Lot 185.  Circa 1910 PC798-33 “Series 113” Comic Postcard Near Set – 7 of 9 Cards. Slightly oversized, these postcards have photos of guys and girls in baseball uniforms. The titles are: “A Double Header,” “A One Handed Catch,” “Caught on First,” “I’m on to Your Curves,” “Striker Up,” “The Greatest Game in the World” and “Two Lovely Misses.” These cards are unused. Three of the cards are vg. The other four are ex to ex+.

Lot 186.  1908 PC798-35 Set of 4 Multi-Colored Embossed Comic Baseball Cards. Each card has an embossed figure of an older man against a beige to slightly pink background. The cards are “A Highball” vg, “Casey at the Bat” vg, “Safe!” g and “The Umpire” vg+. All have a postmark on the back.

Lot 187.  4 Postcards with Cherubs – 3 from “The National Game” and 1 from “To My Valentine.” Except for the name of the set at the top, the cards from these two sets are identical. All are embossed and show a baby with wings and hearts inside a gray border and framed in red and white. Cards from “The National Game” set, designated PC798-36, are “An Easy Catch” ex, “Take Your Base” ex and “You’re Out” nm+. The card from the PC798-37 “To My Valentine” set is “Making a Home” g-vg. The backs of these cards are free of messages and postmarks.

Lot 188.  2 Circa 1907-08 PC798-39 “Baseball Series” Comic Baseball Cards. Each card has three baseball fans superimposed on background photos. Each is printed in black on cream-colored card stock. The two titles, from a set of five, are “Rain” f+ to g and “Strike out” g+. Both are postmarked with messages on the back.

Lot 189.  Circa 1910 PC798-42 AH Comic Postcard – “A Fast Ball.” Unusual unused postcard with several foreign languages on the back. Vg.

Lot 190.  4 Different 1907 PC798-56 Comic Postcards by C. A. Voight. Three cards present cartoon figures of boys, while the fourth depicts the team mascot, a dog. All four are numbered and are designated as part of the “Kidville Ball Team Series.” The set contains 12 cards, although not all are numbered or described as part of the Kidville Series. These four are #2 Center Fielder vg+, 5 Second Baseman vg, 8 The Catcher vg-ex and 11 The Mascot vg. All of these cards have a message on the front and back and have been postmarked. The messages have not been considered in grading them.

Lot 191.  Circa 1910 PC798-62 “P.C.K. Series B. 204” Set of 4 Comic Baseball Cards. These cards featured detailed, colorful artwork of game scenes before a capacity crowd. Titles are: “After All – Position is Everything!”; “Don’t get your games mixed!”; “Say! Isn’t it hard to please everybody?”; and When in doubt – ‘Touch Second’!” All of the cards are unused. They average vg-ex.

Lot 192.  Circa 1912 Comic Postcard from T.P. & Co. – “I Don’t Like No Girls.” This line or caption appears below a boy, his dog and his bat. The card is #76 on Frank Keetz’ list of single postcards. This postcard has a message on the back and has been postmarked. G.
