 Lot 293. Tommy John Signed 1975 LA Dodgers’ Schedule and a 1977 World Series Plaque. John’s autograph is nm-m 8 on 13” x 22” spring training schedule that presents his image and gem mint 10 on a 24” x 24.5” artwork plaque for the Dodgers’ World Series encounter with the Yankees. The schedule is g, and the plaque shows edge chips and a stain in one corner. Accompanying these items is a 1983 schedule marking the Dodgers’ 25th anniversary. John is among the players pictured. The 17” x 22” poster is framed and nm. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

 Lot 294. Baseball Signed by Whitey Ford and Other Stars. From Tommy John’s collection, this OAL Bobby Brown ball may have been signed at an All-Star or Old-Timer event. It has a large, bold Ford autograph on the sweet spot. Other signers are Graig Nettles, Bob Lemon, Bob Bailey, Frank Duffy, Steve Garvey, Steve Yeager, Rawley Eastwick, Doug Rau and Bryan Doyle. Authenticated by Kevin Keating and accompanied by a signed “Property of Thomas Edward John” label.

 Lot 295. 70 Official Game or Practice Baseballs – 1 Autographed by Tommy John. This collection consists primarily of OAL Bobby Brown baseballs that were used in major leagues games or for practice. John placed a mint 9 autograph on the sweet spot of one of them. This group includes 42 OAL Brown baseball, four ONL William White, four Official International League and one Arizona Fall League balls. The printed areas are too heavily worn on the others to identify them. These baseballs would be good practice balls for a Little League team. Autograph authenticated by Kevin Keating.

 Lot 296. Tommy John and Wayne Huizenga Florida Marlins Opening Day Autograph Package. This collection includes three autographs by Huizenga, four by John, and other memorabilia related to the team’s inaugural game on April 5, 1993. John was Huizenga’s guest as the Marlins faced the Dodgers. Huizenga brought major league baseball to South Florida. He owned the Marlins from 1993 until 1998. His autograph is large and mint 9 on the sweet spot of an ONL William White baseball. Another signature is lighter, ex 5, on a Marlins’ Inaugural Year ball that depicts Joe Robbie Stadium on one panel. He also signed “Wayne” at the end of an inscription on the bill of a Marlins cap to: “Tommy, You’re the greatest. ‘Go Marlins’.’’ Mint 9. John signed an 8” x 10” color photo that includes him, Huizenga and other individuals. Mint. His signature is nm-m 8 on the sweet spot of a Marlins Kick-Off Party baseball. John and his wife, Sally, served on a committee for the event. John also autographed an Opening Day program (mint 9) and an 11” x 17” poster for the party (nm-m 8). In addition to the signed items, this group includes another nm-m program for the inaugural game, six invitations to the Kick-Off Party and four ex full-sized Opening Day pennants.  Lot 297. Baseball and Glove Paperweights and Figures, a Bank, a DeMott Pitcher, Etc. Most of these collectibles involve a baseball or glove. The exceptions are a “Happy Days” bank in the shape of a barrel and a pitcher made mainly from screws by DeMott. The only obvious connection of the bank to baseball is that it and the other items offered here are from Tommy John’s collection. It’s 4” high and vg-ex with the key to the lock on the bottom missing. The DeMott pitcher is 5.25” tall on a 1.25” marble-like base. Nm-m. Several of the baseballs are interesting and attractive. A white glass ball with a 3.25” diameter is a jar. Three balls are similar in size, about 2” in diameter. One is alabaster on a 0.5” base, and another appears to be brass or brass-plated on a base. The third is a salt or pepper shaker. Ex to nm. The largest item is an unburned baseball candle about 6” in diameter; g-vg. There also is a 4” figure with a baseball head; it holds a bat. Two ceramic 5” gloves the same have the appearance of extensive use. Nm. Finally, a Rawlings minor league practice ball has been attached to a handle, turning it into a gavel, a mace, or perhaps a massage device. Eleven mostly offbeat collectibles! Five “Property of Thomas Edward John” labels are included.

 Lot 298. Gordie Howe “Living Legend” 1993 Collector’s Plate from Gartlan. This 8.5” gold-rimmed plate was issued to members of Gartlan USA’s “Collectors’ League.” The plate has two images of Howe by Michael J. Taylor and presents highlights of Howe’s career around the edge. Mint in the original box. From Tommy John’s collection and accompanied by a “Property of Thomas Edward John” label.

 Lot 299. 1989-90 New Jersey Nets Signed Basketball, Early 1990s Miami Heat Signed Pennant. The full-sized pennant, which is vg+ and looks better, has nm-m 8 autographs of John Salley, Harold Miner, Alec Kessler, Willie Burton, Matt Geiger, Al Ogg and four others others. Ogg, who died in 2009, was on the 1991-92 team, along with Kessler and Burton. Salley, Miner, Kessler, Burton and Geiger were teammates in 1992-93. This New Jersey Nets team wasn’t very good, but the players have done much better than most at signing a basketball. The autographs are nm-m 8 and better on this Mac Gregor XL 1000 mint ball. Six panels each have two neatly placed signatures. The signers are Dennis Hopson, Mookie Blaycock, Stanley Brundy, Purvis Short, Lester Conner, Chris Morris, Charles Shakleford, Jack Haley, Bowie, Jaren Jackson, Roy Hinson and J B (Joe Barry) Carroll. Hobson, Morris and Short were the team’s leading scorers, while Bowie, Shackleford and Morris were the leading rebounders. Includes two “Property of Thomas Edward John” labels.  Lot 300. 8 Non-Sport Books, Some Autographed, and 6 Periodicals from Tommy John. Eclectic collection ranging from children’s publications business books and books on war. The autographed books are: Winning Strategies in Selling by Roger Staubach, Jack Kinder Jr. and Garry Kinder, 1981 hardback, signed on the flyleaf “Jack – Garry – Roger.” Personalized to John, the signatures are mint 9. The book is ex-m in an nm dust jacket. The Practical Joke War, Alane Ferguson, 1991 first edition, ex-m book and dust jacket, gem mint 10 personalized signature of the author on the flyleaf. Leadership: Volume 3 signed on the flyleaf by author Sterling W. Sill, gem mint 10, 1978 first printing, ex-m/vg+. Signed also be the person who presented it to John. How I Made the Sale That Did the Most for Me, J. Mel Hickerson, 1981, nm/vg+ to ex; signed on the flyleaf by Bill Remington, senior vice president of Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum. The book contains a series of articles, including the opener by Muhammad Ali, “Selling Oneself in Boxing.” Where Angels Fear to Tread, O. S. Hawkins, 1984 vg paperback with a 10 personalized autograph by the author on the first title page.
