Lot 184. Ralph Kiner Signed Autobiography, “Kiner’s Korner.” When Kiner retired, only Babe Ruth had belted more home runs per time at bat. He led his league or tied for the lead in home runs seven times. Among baseball’s top 10 all-time home run hitters, only Ruth (12 times) has equaled or surpassed this achievement. He was an All-Star in six of his 12 major league seasons. After his playing career ended, he broadcast New York Mets games for more than 50 seasons. Kiner’s personalized signature is mint 9 on the first title page of the book. Dated 2/24/93, it has been authenticated by Kevin Keating. The 1987 hardback, an apparent first edition, is ex-m in a similar dust jacket.

Lot 329. April 25, 1938 Chicago at Pittsburgh Program and Ticket Stub. The program folds out to display four panels, or eight pages. It is neatly scored in pencil for an 8-6 Pirates win. Familiar names in the pre-printed lineup include Stan Hack, Billy Herman, Rip Collins and Tony Lazzeri for the Cubs and Arky Vaughan and Paul and Lloyd Waner for the Pirates. Ex. The ticket stub (rain check) for a grand stand seat has a partial punch hole in the upper left corner and a small chip in the upper right; otherwise, it is ex-m.

Lot 332. Aug. 1953 “Police Gazette” Cover with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, Baseball Players. Crosby wears a Pittsburgh Pirates uniform and Hope, Cleveland Indians attire, on the cover of the complete issue, which is vg+. Crosby and Hope were part-owners of the respective teams. Their rivalry and friendship are discussed in an article in the magazine, which has an article on the Milwaukee Braves, a full-page color image of boxer Mike McTigue and a small photo of the Harlem Globetrotters’ Goose Tatum.

Lot 334. 1963 Yankees and 1975 Pirates Yearbooks and 7 Other Sports Publications. The covers of the New York yearbook are detached and p; the interior is vg-ex, with stains on pages 1-2. The Pittsburgh yearbook is ex-m+. A 1972 White Sox at Yankees program is g. There are two other baseball publications: “Sports Review: Baseball” 1958 issue with Burdette on the cover, g-vg, and Street & Smith’s 1976 “Baseball Yearbook,” Lynn cover, ex-m. The N.L. won this hitting-fest at Pittsburgh’s Three River Stadium in the bottom of the 10th inning, 8-7, when Tony Gwynn singled and scored on a double of Moises Alou. The program is ex. Both tickets have been punched with a star-shaped device; otherwise, they are ex.

Lot 344. Pittsburgh Circa 1910 Baseball Pin. “Pittsburgh 1” is displayed inside a metal banner at the top of this pin, which has a 2” red, white and blue ribbon suspended from it. In turn, a 1” metal bat hangs from the ribbon. Ex. The pin apparently is associated with a city baseball program. Attractive and uncommon.

Lot 345. Willie Stargell Twice-Signed First Edition Autobiography. Stargell autographed the dust jacket and back of the first title page of the eponymous stated first edition hardback book, which is ex in a similar dust jacket. The signatures, authenticated by Kevin Keating, are mint 9. Stargell was enshrined at Cooperstown in 1988. He passed away in 2001.

Lot 346. Pittsburgh Pirates Perez-Steele Great Moments Collection with Stargell’s Card Signed. Willie Stargell placed a mint 9 autograph on his Great Moments card. The O’Briens starred in basketball at the University of Seattle and then played infield positions and pitched for the Pirates in the 1950s. Each signed an unlined index card. Lot 348. 1946 Press Association Photo of Pittsburgh Pirates’ Manager Frankie Frisch. The July 26 photo shows Frisch arguing with umpire George Magerkurth in a game the day before with the Phillies at Shibe Park. After the Pirates booed a call by Magerkurth, the umpired cleared the Pittsburgh dugout of all players not in the lineup. The 7” x 9” photo has an undated caption attached to the back. Lot 349. 2 1950 Programs for Games Between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia’s Whiz Kids. Both Pittsburgh programs are scored, one for a June 11 game won by the Pirates, 5-4 in 12 innings, and the other by the Phils, 4-2. The earlier program has the results added in pencil to the cover and otherwise is vg-ex. The August program is f-g with a chipped corner on the front cover and approximately 15 percent of the back cover missing. The interior is complete. Each program has separate full-page photos Ralph Kiner and Bing Crosby.
