Lot 247.  10 Different 1930s-60s Green-Tint Boxing Exhibits – Marciano, Waltcott, Etc. The subjects of these cards are Percy Bassett vg-ex, Gene Burton g, Ezzard Charles p, Paddy DeMarco vg-ex, Dai Dower vg, Rocky Marciano vg, Gil Turner vg-ex, Jersey Joe Walcott (attached to a paper backing; otherwise) vg-ex, Tommy Yaroz vg and Tony Zale g (Chicago). Charles, Marciano, Walcott and Zale are Hall of Fame members.

Lot 248.  1948 Leaf #1 Jack Dempsey. This card has a scuff that results in some paper loss at the left side of Dempsey’s head and two staple holes. Clean back. P.

Lot 249.  José Torres, Hall of Fame Boxer, Signed Copy of Mike Tyson’s Biography. Torres also wrote a biography of Muhammad Ali. Light heavyweight champion from 1965-66, he also served as chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission from 1983-88 and president of the World Boxing Organization from 1993-95. He passed away in 2009. Torres’ book on Tyson is titled “Fire & Fear: The Inside Story of Mike Tyson.” He signed the dedication page of the 1989 apparent first edition hardback. His personalized signature is huge, mint 9 and authenticated by Kevin Keating. The book and dust jacket are ex.

Lot 250.  Oversized Japanese-English Program for the 1990 Mike Tyson-Buster Douglas Title Fight. Ex-m 11.75” x 16.5” color 32-page program. In what “Ring Magazine” called the upset of the year, Douglas knocked Tyson out in the 12th round of their bout at the Tokyo Dome on Feb. 11.

Lot 251.  Jack Dempsey Set of 4 Everlast Boxing Gloves in the Original Box. The intact box displays decently with creases, scuffs, tears and a couple of holes. Inside are four unused nm Everlast 9 oz. gloves made of leather that remains soft and pliable. These sets apparently were issued with gloves with and without Dempsey’s name; these are without.

Lot 252.  Billy Conn Original 1946 Press Association Wire Photo Following His Loss to Joe Louis. On June 19 at Yankee Stadium, Louis knocked Conn out in the eighth round of their heavyweight championship fight. Conn is still in the ring, with blood trickling down his cheek and nose. The 7” x 9” photo exhibits extensive emulsion cracking and a heavy crease on the right side outside the images. There are three pin holes at the top. The photo displays well and is scarce.

Lot 253.  2 Boxing Books by Nat Fleischer and 1925 and 1927 “Everlast Boxing Record” Books. The books by the great boxing writer are “Training for Boxers,” 1937, and “How to Box,” 1949. Jack Dempsey wrote the foreword to the first book, and James J. Corbett, the second. Both books are softcovers, and both are vg. The cover of “Training for Boxers” is detached. The front cover of the 1925 “Boxing Record” is detached, and the back cover is missing. The pages are vg-ex. The 1927 issue is intact and vg with covers that grade lower.

Lot 254.  35 Boxing Magazines or General Magazines with Boxing Covers – “Ring,” “SI,” Etc. The cover of the Sept. 1953 “Police Gazette” wonders “Is Marciano a Dirty Fighter?” It shows Marciano landing an elbow on Jersey Joe Walcott. Ex. Marciano is also on the cover of the May 13, 1955 “Collier’s.” Eight issues of “Ring” are in the collection: Jan. 1938, Tommy Farr cover, vg; Jan. 1941, Fritzie Zivic cover, f-g; Nov. 1955, March 1957, Jan 1974 (Foreman), Dec. 1980, Feb. 1982 (Holmes-Cooney special), Sept. 1983 and Feb. 1984. The more recent “Ring” issues average ex. Six issues from “Sports Illustrated,” four with Muhammad Ali covers, and two with George Foreman: April 23, 1973; June 18, 1973; Dec. 23, 1974; Sept. 16, 1975; Dec. 15, 1975, and Oct. 10, 1977. Two issues are vg+, and four are ex to ex-m. “Boxing Illustrated”: July 1971, June 1972, Jan. 1973, Feb. 1973 and Dec. 1973, vg. “International Boxing”: March 1972 (Marciano), Nov. 1972 (2), Aug. 1973 (Ali-Frazier), Feb. 1974 (Ali-Frazier) and June 1974; one g, and the others average ex. “World Boxing”: Nov. 1969 (special heavyweight issue), July 1970, March 1973 (Ali, Frazier, Foreman), July 1973 (Ali-Foreman), Sept. 1973 (Ali) and July 1974; one vg, and the others average ex-m. Also, “Tommy Kay’s Boxing Guide,” Oct. 1974, vg.

Lot 365.  1946 “Illustrated Current News” Poster Featuring Babe Ruth and Joe Louis. In this 12.5” x 19” news poster, the baseball and boxing greats discuss politics with New York Gov. Thomas E. Dewey, who was preparing for his re-election campaign against challenger Sen. James M. Mead. Louis was the heavyweight champion in 1946. The poster is folded vertically and otherwise ex.

Lot 372.  64 Photos of Baseball Players, Hockey, Football and Basketball Players and Ali. Interesting assortment of photos that could be used for display or for autographs since most of the subjects are still living. Two 3.5” x 5” color photos picture Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. Except as noted, the other photos are approximately 4” x 6”, and in color. The baseball images are of Lance Parrish (2), Pete Gray (3 b&w), Dave Parker, Frank Viola (2), Gil McDougald (2 b&w), Dean Chance (2) and Mays (2 b&w). In addition, this group includes 2.5” x 3.5” baseball photos, all in color: John Roseboro (2), John Blanchard (4), Mack Jones (2), Jesse Gonder (2), Tom Cheney (2), Bob Tillman (2), Ed Bailey (2), Rich Rollins (2), Elliot Maddox (3), Lou Piniella (2) and Ron Blomberg. There are two color photos of Muhammad Ali, one 8” x 10”, and the other, 4” x 6”. The remaining photos are 4” x 6”: Hockey - Milt Schmidt (2 different, one b&w). Football - Bill Nelsen (2 b&w), Frank Gifford (b&w), Y. A. Tittle and Travis Williams (2). Basketball - Bill Russell (part of a group, b&w photo shows soft focus), Rick Barry, Dolph Schayes (2 b&w), Herm Gilliam (4 b&w) and Drazen Petrovik (4). These photos average nm to nm-m, with slightly less than one-half apparently made from original negatives.
