Lot 295. 70 Official Game or Practice Baseballs – 1 Autographed by Tommy John. This collection consists primarily of OAL Bobby Brown baseballs that were used in major leagues games or for practice. John placed a mint 9 autograph on the sweet spot of one of them. This group includes 42 OAL Brown baseball, four ONL William White, four Official International League and one Arizona Fall League balls. The printed areas are too heavily worn on the others to identify them. These baseballs would be good practice balls for a Little League team. Autograph authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 297. Baseball and Glove Paperweights and Figures, a Bank, a DeMott Pitcher, Etc. Most of these collectibles involve a baseball or glove. The exceptions are a “Happy Days” bank in the shape of a barrel and a pitcher made mainly from screws by DeMott. The only obvious connection of the bank to baseball is that it and the other items offered here are from Tommy John’s collection. It’s 4” high and vg-ex with the key to the lock on the bottom missing. The DeMott pitcher is 5.25” tall on a 1.25” marble-like base. Nm-m. Several of the baseballs are interesting and attractive. A white glass ball with a 3.25” diameter is a jar. Three balls are similar in size, about 2” in diameter. One is alabaster on a 0.5” base, and another appears to be brass or brass-plated on a base. The third is a salt or pepper shaker. Ex to nm. The largest item is an unburned baseball candle about 6” in diameter; g-vg. There also is a 4” figure with a baseball head; it holds a bat. Two ceramic 5” gloves the same have the appearance of extensive use. Nm. Finally, a Rawlings minor league practice ball has been attached to a handle, turning it into a gavel, a mace, or perhaps a massage device. Eleven mostly offbeat collectibles! Five “Property of Thomas Edward John” labels are included.

Lot 306. DiMaggio, Gehrig and Roy “Lefty” Mackey Hillerich & Bradsby 1940s-50s Mini Bats. All are “40” models. The gold stampings on the Joe DiMaggio bat remain strong; ex-m. The stampings on the Lou Gehrig and Mackey bats are somewhat light but readable; both bats show wear on the end of the barrel. The Mackey bat is unusual because he spent his entire 11-season career (1931-41) in the minors, primarily at the Class C and D level. He did play part of the 1935 season with Class A Milwaukee of the American Association.

Lot 308. 1938 Advertisement with Babe Ruth Receiving a Louisville Slugger Sterling Silver Bat. In a 9.5” x 15” newspaper ad, Ruth receives the bat as “a token of his hitting prowess” at the annual New York Chapter of Sportswriters’ Dinner. The ad lists Ruth’s home run total as 729, which includes the 15 he belted in World Series competition. The ad has a couple of creases away from Ruth’s image, and it’s matted to 16” x 20”.

Lot 313. 100+ Baseball Items from the Estates of Eddie Stanky and Milt Stock. Mixed assortment of photos, cards, publications, correspondence – and potential “sleepers.” Stanky played second base for the Cubs, Dodgers, Braves, Giants and Cardinals and managed the Cards, White Sox and Rangers. Stock was Stanky’s father-in-law. He played third base for the Giants, Cardinals, Phillies and Robins (Brooklyn), coached in the majors and managed in the minors. The collection includes George Burke photos, 3.5” x 5.25” and larger, of Stan Musial, Pee Wee Reese (4” x 6”), Dixie Walker, Al Dark and Jerry Priddy. A Joe Gordon photo has the appearance of a Burke product but lacks the stamp of the Chicago photographer. There are 10 b&w photos 8” x 10” or larger of Stanky; two show him with drummer Gene Krupa. Ten recently printed copies of a photo show Stanky with Jackie Robinson, Reese and Spider Jorgensen as the Opening Day infield for the Dodgers on April 15, 1947. The photo is used in seven 8” x 10” broadsides marking the 50th anniversary of the day. Ty Cobb is the subject of a 3.25” x 3.25” b&w photo, possibly from 1949. Cobb is also in an attractive, framed 8” x 10 b&w premium that has a facsimile autograph printed in blue. An actual photo of Frank McCormick is on a 4” x 6.5” photo. Dated 1944, it is personalized to Stock and authenticated by Kevin Keating. A newspaper photo of the Baseball Hall of Fame is on a 7” x 7” wood plaque, and on the back, it’s addressed to “Coach Ed Stanky.” Among the cards are a 1975 TCMA 1951 New York Giants near set, 32 of 34 including Mays; an early 1900s postcard of the St. Vincent boys baseball team; team-issued photos of Hanyzewski, Jack Banta and Erv Palica; and, in unseparated panels, Series 5-8 of the 1993 Keebler-Albertsons All-Time set, including Gaylord Perry, Billy Martin, Sammy Sosa, Rafael Palmeiro, Ivan Rodriquez and Nolan Ryan. Publications include three copies of the 1984 “Dodgers Blue Book”; the April 1947 and Jan. 1949 issues of “Baseball Digest,” f; the 1967 “American League Regulations and Waiver Reference,” and the oversized softcover, “Newspaper Reports About Big League Baseball in the Big Apple: The New York Giants, 1901-1957” by Thomas Antonucci. There also are two Jackie Robinson first-day covers with his image and U.S. postage stamp from 1982 and various other items. The entertainment value alone is worth our starting bid.

Lot 314. Rare Detroit 1910 Baseball Pin. With a metal banner saying “Detroit 1910” at the top, this pin has a 3.25” red, white and blue ribbon attached. A metal baseball is suspended from the center of the ribbon. The banner shows some oxidation at the top. Ex. This attractive pin apparently is associated with a city baseball event, rather than the Tigers.

Lot 315. 1981 Los Angeles World Series Press Pin. Made by Balfour, the pin is mint in its original box. The Dodgers defeated the Yankees in six games.

Lot 316. 1984 Detroit Tigers World Series Press Pin. Sparky Anderson led the 1984 Tigers to the world championship in five games against San Diego. Balfour produced the pin, which shows Tiger Stadium. The pin is mint in its original box.

Lot 317. 5 1940s-50 Louisville Slugger 16” Mini Bats – Dickey, Gordon, Keller, Walker, Hornsby. All of these bats are Hillerich & Bradsby 40 models. The Dickey, Hornsby, Keller and Walker names are inscribed in gold; Gordon’s is in black. The bats grade: Dickey vg+, Gordon ex, Hornsby f (name very difficult to read), Keller nm and Fred (Dixie) Walker ex-m.

Lot 318. Ticket Stub for 1942 World Series Game 3 – St. Louis vs. New York at Yankee Stadium. Ernie White pitched a five-hitter as the Cardinals won, 2-0, and took the lead in the series, 2-1. The Cardinals captured the world championship in five games. The stub, for a mezzanine reserved seat, is vg to vg-ex with a crease in the upper left, a small corner crease and paper loss on the back along the edge where it was separated from the rest of the ticket.

Lot 319. Vintage Petrolia Wool Baseball Jersey. Likely from a small town north of Pittsburgh, the jersey shows good use and displays nicely. Vg. It appears to be an adult medium.

Lot 320. 1939 “Look” with Joe DiMaggio, 1940s Magazines with Newhouser, Cooper as Lou Gehrig. These large-format magazines feature excellent color photography on their covers. DiMaggio and his future first wife, actress Dorothy Arnold, are on the cover of the Oct. 10, 1939 issue of “Look.” They married on Nov. 19, 1939, and divorced on May 2, 1944. Inside are articles on DiMaggio and World Series heroes, “Does Notre Dame Get the Football Breaks?” and Hitler and World War II. Vg to vg+. Actor Gary Cooper as Gehrig is on the cover of the July 28, 1942 issue of “Look.” The magazine reviews “The Pride of the Yankees,” in which Babe Ruth plays himself, and offers an article on Joe Gordon as “King of the Second Basemen.” Vg-ex. Newhouser is posed to deliver a pitch on the cover of the July 19, 1947 “Collier’s.” He is the subject of a three-page article. Ex issue. The cover has a small chip along the right edge, and the label is partially removed.
