Lot 231.  Bill Bradley Autographed Photo and Letter. The Hall of Fame basketball star signed an 8” x 10” b&w photo that shows him in a suit and a 1984 letter as a New Jersey’s U.S. Senator. Both signatures are gem mint 10. Inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1982, Bradley won two NBA Championships with the New York Knicks. He served three terms in the U.S. Senate and unsuccessfully sought the Democrat nomination for President in 2000.

Lot 292.  James Cagney Autograph Authenticated by PSA/DNA on an 8” x 10” B&W Photo. Mint 9 signature on a photo showing a scene from the 1939 gangster film “Each Dawn I Die.” Cagney was one of the most important actors of the first half of the 20th century. In 1974, he received the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award. In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked him eighth on its list of 50 Greatest American Screen Legends. Orson Wells said he was "maybe the greatest actor to ever appear in front of a camera." Cagney died in 1986.

Lot 294.  Autographs of 13 Deceased Silent Screen Actresses – Gish, Joy, Mackaill, Pringle, Etc. Both PSA-DNA and Kevin Keating authenticated these signatures. Unless otherwise noted, they are nm-m 8 or better on the unlined side of index cards 3” x 5” or larger. The list comprises Ruth Clifford, Joyce Compton, Hazel Dawn, Lillian Gish, Violet Heming (personalized), Madge Kennedy (pers.), Leatrice Joy (lined card), Marion Mack, Dorothy Mackaill, Jane Novak, Aileen Pringle (lined card with a lengthy note above her signature), Esther Ralston and Dorothy Revier. Gish’s career spanned 75 years, from a leading role in “Birth of a Nation” in 1915 to “Duel in the Sun” in 1946 to a 1987 movie with Bette Davis. The American Film Institute selected her 17th among the greatest female stars of all-time. Joy was one of the leading ladies of the silent film era. Mackaill made the transition to “talkies” and in 1932, she starred with young Humphrey Bogart in “Love Affair.” Later in life, she lived in Hawaii and appeared in several episodes of “Hawaii Five-O.” Known as the “Darling of the Intelligentsia,” Pringle was friends with such figures as H. L. Mencken; artist Ralph Barton, who used her as the model for his illustrations of Dorothy for “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”; and George Gershwin. Clifford’s career included providing the voice of Minnie Mouse. Compton’s career included more than 200 movies, including “Magnificent Obsession,” “Mildred Pierce” and “The Best Years of Our Lives.” Kennedy played Aunt Martha on “Leave It to Beaver.” After the silent era, Revier appeared in a number of Buck Jones westerns.

Lot 295.  Autographs of President Gerald Ford, Ron Paul, Jeb Bush and Jack Reed. President Ford’s signature is mint 9 to gem mint 10 on an unlined index card. It is accompanied by an 8” x 10” color photo that shows him with Presidents Carter and Reagan. Jeb Bush’s autograph is on a 5” x 7” color photo (personalized, nm 7) and a note card dated 2011 (mint 9). Ron Paul’s autograph is mint 9 and personalized on an 8” x 10” color photo, and Reed’s is a 10 on an 8” x 10” color photo. Reed has represented Rhode Island in the U.S. Senate since 1997. Nadine Strossen, president of the American Civil Liberties Union, 1991-2008; 6” x 6” photo, personalize signature. 17. Conrad Burns, U.S. Senator, Montana. 18. Bill Richardson, New Mexico Governor, personalized. 19. Michael Dukakis, Massachusetts Governor and Democrat candidate for President; 2006 letter. 20-23. Autopen letters from U.S. Senators Thad Cochran (Mississippi), Theresa Kandris (Maryland), Charles Grassley (Iowa) and Evan Bayh (Indiana). The first 19 autographs come with a Letter of Authenticity from Collectible Classics. They come from a reliable consignor, and we believe them to be authentic. The winning bidder will have 50 days from the close of the auction to have them checked by a reliable third party. After August 19, they may not be returned.

Lot 297.  William H. Rehnquist, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice, Typed Letter Signed. Rehnquist served as an Associate Justice from 1972-86, and as Chief Justice from 1986 until his death in 2005. His signature is at the close of a typed 1972 letter on Supreme Court stationery. In the letter, he tells the addressee that he does not have a photo to send, but if the recipient sends him a photo, he will sign it. Mint 9 signature authenticated by Kevin Keating. The mailing envelope is included.
