Lot 230.  1980-81 Topps Basketball Set of 176 – Larry Bird and Magic Johnson Rookie Cards. Strong set with centering as the primary factor that affects the grades. The key to this set is #6 in Beckett’s numbering system, the card with numbers 34-174-139; rookie Larry Bird is on the left, with rookie Magic Johnson on the right and Julius Erving in the center. This example is centered 25:75 left-to-right, better top-to-bottom and grades nm. Eight other cards picture either Bird or Johnson: #48 143-30-232 with Bird nm+; 49 146-31-198 with Bird nm-m; 66 178-18-237 with Johnson nm-m; 94 34-164-23 with Bird ex+; 98 47-30-232 with Bird ex+; 111 88-18-237 with Johnson ex-m+; 146 162-174-139 with Johnson and Erving ex-m+; and 165 228-31-198 with Bird ex-m+. The rest of the set averages ex-m+.

Lot 231.  Bill Bradley Autographed Photo and Letter. The Hall of Fame basketball star signed an 8” x 10” b&w photo that shows him in a suit and a 1984 letter as a New Jersey’s U.S. Senator. Both signatures are gem mint 10. Inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1982, Bradley won two NBA Championships with the New York Knicks. He served three terms in the U.S. Senate and unsuccessfully sought the Democrat nomination for President in 2000.

Lot 232.  Wilt Chamberlain Autographed 8.5” x 10.5” Magazine Photo. Strong autograph that displays as nm 7 on a dark, sepia background. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 233.  1951 NBA Champion Rochester Royals Signed Photo and Program. The Royals ended the Minneapolis Lakers’ two-year reign as NBA champions by winning the Western Division finals and then edged the New York Knicks in seven games for the league title. Eight of the 10 Royals players and coach Les Harrison signed an 8.5” x 11” printed team photo at a 1984 reunion event: Bob Davies (personalized), Bob Wanzer, Red Holzman, Paul Noel (pers.), Pep Saul, Arnie Risen, Jack Coleman and Arnold Johnson. The signatures, authenticated by Kevin Keating, average nm-m 8. Accompanying the photo is an original 1950-51 program for a game with Boston. Each Royals player is briefly profiled in the 36-page program, which is vg-ex with the cover detached. Davies, Risen, Wanzer and Holzman are all Hall of Fame members. Six of the nine who signed the photo are deceased.
