Lot 284.  3 Sets: 1928 Player “Flags,” 1937 Gallaher “Wild Animals,” Churchman “Navigation.” Fifty cards are in the Player & Son and Churchman sets, and 48 in the Gallaher set. The Player “Flags of the League of Nations” set reflects the global change in geopolitics, with defunct designs and flags for such re-named countries as Abyssinia, the Irish Free State and Persia. This set averages vg+. The Churchman set presents “The Story of Navigation,” from the Bronze Age to the “Queen Mary.” Primarily sailing vessels are depicted. This set averages ex to ex-m. Lot 285.  3 Sets: 1928 “Romance of the Heavens,” 1933 “Garden Flowers,” 1938 Railway Equipment.” All are 50-card sets from Wills. Each card has a color front and an informational back. The “Heavens” set, which describes our solar system, makes for interesting reading in light of the exploration of space that has occurred in the past several decades. This set averages vg+ to ex. Flowers depicted range from Allwoodii to Zinnias. Vg-ex overall. The “Equipment” set provides a tutorial on how railroads operate. Overall, vg-ex.

Lot 288.  4 1930s Military-Related Cards Sets Including 1930 Player “History of Naval Dress.” Each set has 50 cards with color fronts and informational backs. In addition to the “History of Naval Dress” set, which averages vg-ex, two others were issued by Player & Sons: 1930 “Regimental Standards and Cap Badges,” which averages vg-ex, and 1938 “Military Uniforms of the British Empire Overseas,” which averages vg+ to ex. Lot 291.  3 1930s Gallaher Cards Sets Featuring Actors and Actresses. Each set has 48 color cards with informational backs: 1934 “Champions of Screen & Stage” (red backs), which averages ex; 1935 “Shots from Famous Films,” which averages vg-ex, and 1935 “Stars of Screen & Stage” (green backs), which averages vg+ to ex. Among the stars in one or more of these sets are Mae West, Greta Garbo, Bing Crosby, Joan Crawford, Jeannette MacDonald, Katherine Hepburn, Jean Harlow, Maurice Chevalier, Norma Shearer, Myrna Loy, Douglas Fairbanks, Clark Gable, Laurel and Hardy, Ginger Rogers, Johnny Weissmuller, Maureen O’Sullivan, Jackie Cooper and Gary Cooper.

Lot 294.  1938 Wills “Air Raid Precautions” Set of 50. his set, which has color fronts and descriptive, adhesive backs, constitutes a “how to” for withstanding an air raid. Airplanes, a balloon barrage and an anti-aircraft gun are also shown. Overall, vg+ to ex.

Lot 295.  1938 Player & Sons “Cycling” Set of 50 Cards. Colorful set with excellent artwork tracing the history of the bicycle from the early 1800s through bicycle racing in 1937. The cards have adhesive backs. Vg+ to ex overall.

Lot 296.  1938 Wills “Speed” and 1972 Brooke Bond “History of Aviation” Sets of 50. Fast airplanes (14), cars or coaches (10), motorcycles (4), trains (8), ships (10) and boats (4) make up the colorful Wills Eire set. Each source of rapid transport is described on the back. Highlights include Comet Racer, Spitfire and Messerschmitt aircraft; racers and prototype vehicles; and ships such as the “Queen Mary,” the “Admiral Graf Spee,” one of most famous German warships of WWII, and the “H.M.S. Hood,” a British ship sunk by another German warship, the “Bismarck.” Historically interesting. This set averages vg-ex. The Brooke Bond set outlines aviation history from 1783 to the NASA program. This set averages vg+ to ex.
