 Lot 164. James “Cool Papa” Bell (HoF) Autographed 8” x 10” B&W Photo. One of baseball’s fastest players ever, Bell starred as a center fielder in the Negro Leagues in the 1920s-40s. He was an All-Star every year from 1933-44 except for the years he played in Latin America. Enshrined at Cooperstown in 1974, he died in 1991. His signature, authenticated by Kevin Keating, is nm-m 8.

 Lot 165. PSA/DNA-Authenticated Cowan “Bubba” Hyde Autograph on an 8.5” x 11” B&W Photo. A good hitter and fast runner, Hyde patrolled the outfield for various Negro Leagues and Mexican League teams from 1924-51. His teams included the Memphis Red Sox, Birmingham Black Barons, Cincinnati Tigers and Chicago American Giants. In fact, he was only 14 when he played for the Red Sox in 1924. He left after one season, however, to return to school. He rejoined the team several years later. Hyde passed away in 2003. His autograph, authenticated also by Kevin Keating, is mint 9.

 Lot 214. Autographs of Harlem Globetrotters “Jumpin’ Johnny” Wilson, Curly Neal and Others. Besides performing for the Globetrotters, Wilson also played one season with the Negro Leagues’ Chicago American Giants. A star basketball player in his Indiana high school, he was kept out of Indiana University because of his race. As a result, he attended Anderson College, where some of his records still stand. After college, he played for the Globetrotters, from 1949-54. Since then, he has spent most of his life as a high school or college basketball coach. He was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and was named one of the state’s 50 best basketball players of all time. His signature is nm-m 8 to mint 9 on 3” x 5” photo that shows him as a baseball player. Neal placed a bold gem mint 10 signature on an 8.5” x 11” photo. He was the Globetrotters’ featured ball handler for most of his career, from 1963-85. During his career, Hanna-Barbara featured him in an animated Globetrotters cartoon. The team has retired his No. 22. Other autographs are on 5.5” x 8.5” photos of the 2004 and 2006 teams. The signers include Seth Franco, John Jackson, Anthony Blakes and Mike St. Julien (signed as “Saint). Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

 Lot 242. James Earl Jones and Billy Dee Williams Signed 1976 “Ebony” Magazine. Jones and Williams are pictured on the cover of the July issue with Richard Pryor as members of “The Bingo Long Traveling All Stars & Motor Kings.” Inside, the magazine offers a seven-page article on the movie and carries a two-page ad spread. The book is based on William Brashler’s classic novel with the same title. Brashler’s works include a biography of Josh Gibson and a history of the Negro Leagues. The magazine also devotes seven pages to the Spinners. Williams and Jones are linked also by their “Star Wars” roles. Their autographs, authenticated by Kevin Keating, are mint 9. The issue is vg-ex.
