Football Memorabilia   6 Lots

Lot 137.  Full Football Ticket for “The Game Never to be Forgotten” - 1953 Army vs. Duke. In the wake of a cheating scandal before the beginning of the 1951 football season, 37 members of Coach Earl Blaik’s Army football team were discharged by the academy. The result was uncharacteristically poor performances by the 1951 and 1952 Cadets. In 1953, after three games, it was unclear that Blaik’s team would return to its glory days. The turning point came in Game 4, on Oct. 17 at the Polo Grounds, when the unranked 2-1 Cadets stunned seventh-ranked and unbeaten Duke, 14-13. After that, Army went 4-0-1 and captured the Lambert Trophy as the best team in the East. Following the triumph, Blaik praised his team and called the contest “the Game Never to be Forgotten.” It is generally regarded as one of Army’s greatest games. The ticket shows two punch holes and is free of creases. Ex+.
Winning Bid $25.
