Lot 40.  1952 Bowman #116 Duke Snider (HoF). Centered 20:80 top-to-bottom and considerably better left-to-right. Strong corners. Ex+ to ex-m.

Lot 103.  Jackie Robinson and Floyd Patterson Civil Rights-Related 1963 Original UPI Wire Photo. The 7.75” x 10” b&w photo captures the Hall of Fame stars boarding a plane in Newark for a flight to Birmingham to “lend moral encouragement” to civil rights demonstrations there. Robinson, of course, broke baseball’s color barrier. At 21 in 1956, Patterson became the youngest heavyweight boxing champion.

Lot 107.  Framed 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers Team Photo and Marianne Moore’s Poem of Praise. This 19.5” x 25.5” framed display consists of a 12” x 16.75” color photo of the 1955 World Champions and the complete poem by Moore, titled “Hometown Piece for Messrs. Alston and Reese.” At the time, Moore was regarded as one of the most important living U.S. poets. In 1951, her “Collected Poems” received the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. Her Dodgers poem apparently came as something of a surprise to her literary friends. It honors the Dodgers for their World Series success. Nm.

Lot 108.  Johnny Podres Autographed 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers World Champs Display. On a 7” x 9” photo that shows him celebrating with teammates after the Dodgers captured the World Championship, Podres wrote: “Who’s a Bum, Oct. 4, 1955” and then signed his name. The photo is matted and framed with Willard Mullin’s “Bum” and the front page of the Oct. 5, 1955 New York “Daily News.” The headline exclaims “Who’s a Bum!” Podres pitched a shutout in Game 7 against the Yankees. He also won Game 2 and was named the Series’ MVP. His autograph, authenticated by Kevin Keating, is nm 7 to nm-m 8. The newspaper exhibits some wrinkles. The various pieces are matted and framed to 17” x 21” and ready for display.

Lot 113.  Brooklyn Dodgers Legends Print by Bernard Fuchs. Framed to 23.5” x 28.5”, this 1992 charcoal print depicts Roy Campanella, Duke Snider, Jackie Robinson, Carl Furillo, Pee Wee Reese and Gil Hodges. Widely recognized for his sports and non-sport art, Fuchs signed the print as “B. Fuchs.” Nm-m.

Lot 120.  1949 Brooklyn at Pittsburgh Pirates Scorecard and 2 1972 Scorebooks. Printed on one side, the 9” x 11.5” scorecard is neatly scored in pencil for a 15-3 Dodgers victory on June 26. Rookie Don Newcombe pitched a complete game and improved his record to 5-1. Ralph Kiner, Rip Sewell, Pee Wee Reese, Jackie Robinson, Gil Hodges, Roy Campanella and Duke Snider played. The scorecard has one heavy crease and several lighter creases. The 1972 programs are scored for Pirates games with the Cubs and Reds. One scorecard is stained; otherwise, the programs are ex.

Lot 173.  Al Campanis Autographed ONL William White Baseball. Campanis was part of the Dodgers organization for more than 40 years. As a shortstop, he was Jackie Robinson’s double-play partner in Montreal. As a scout, he signed Roberto Clemente for the Dodgers. But in a 1987 TV interview, as vice president of player personnel for LA, he made a racial remark, and his Dodgers career was over. His signature is mint 9 on ball that has a couple of spots of light discoloration, one behind part of his sweet spot autograph. Campanis died in 1998. He played in seven games for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1943. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 184.  Burt Shotton (Dodgers Manager) Autographed 8” x 10” B&W Photo. Shotton was Jackie Robinson’s first regular manager in the majors. Shown outside the Dodgers’ Club House, he led the Bums to N.L. pennants in 1947 and 1949. He also managed the Phils and played for the Browns, Senators and Cardinals. His signature, as “B E Shotton,” is nm 7 to nm-m 8, large and personalized. Shotton died in 1962. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 195.  Johnny Mize and Duke Snider Autographed Magazine Advertisements. Mize signed a 1940 Wheaties ad, and Snider, a 1957 ad for Florida orange juice. The 10” x 13.5” Mize ad is on the inside of a cover for “America Boy,” and the 7.5” x 10.5” Snider ad is from the “Saturday Evening Post.” Both signatures are nm-m 8 to mint 9. Mize entered the Hall of Fame in 1981 and died in 1993. Enshrined in 1980, Snider passed away last year. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 197.  “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” Autographs – Ralph Branca and Bobby Thomson. Branca, the Brooklyn Dodgers hurler, delivered the pitch that Thomson slammed for a home run to capture the 1951 N.L. pennant for the New York Giants. Thomson signed a magazine advertisement for Bromo-Seltzer, and Branca, and ad for Munsingwear underwear. Each autograph is nm-m 8. The ads are about 4.75” x 12”. They have been laminated together on a blue background. Authentication by Kevin Keating.
