Baseball Memorabilia   21 Lots       »

Lot 102.  Circa 1940s Vintage Photo of Joe, Dom and Vince DiMaggio. An apparent wire service product lacking identification as such, the photo shows the baseball trio at a restaurant. It has pin holes in the borders, has a couple of creases and shows “alligatoring” in the emulsion. The image is strong and crisp.
Minimum Bid $25.

Lot 103.  Jackie Robinson and Floyd Patterson Civil Rights-Related 1963 Original UPI Wire Photo. The 7.75” x 10” b&w photo captures the Hall of Fame stars boarding a plane in Newark for a flight to Birmingham to “lend moral encouragement” to civil rights demonstrations there. Robinson, of course, broke baseball’s color barrier. At 21 in 1956, Patterson became the youngest heavyweight boxing champion.
Winning Bid $25.

Lot 104.  1936 Chicago Cubs and White Sox Pocket Schedule, Notepad and Calendar. Measuring 1 7/8” x 3 7/8” when closed and 3 7/8” x 5 ½” when opened, the schedule lists the Cubs’ home games on one panel, and the Chisox’s home games on another. The center panel holds mini-note pages and a 1936 calendar. Ex and uncommon.
Minimum Bid $25.

Lot 105.  Mel Ott (HoF) 1940s Ink Blotter. Likely from 1943 because in the text, Ott mentions managing a “great team.” His 1942 New York Giants were the best during his 6+ seasons as manager, finishing third in the N.L. pennant race. The blotter promotes Sunday School attendance. Unused, vg-ex with some edge fading on the back.
Winning Bid $20.

Lot 106.  St. Louis Cardinals 1949 World Series “Phantom” Ticket. The Cardinals printed tickets for the 1949 World Series, but finished second to Brooklyn in the National League by one game. To fans who ordered Series tickets, the Cards sent tickets with an overprint that says: “We’re really RED Birds now – embarrassed as can be. But here’s a World Series ticket as a souvenir. And (surprise!) you get your money back, too. Seriously, thank you for your interest and support. It’s grand to know we have so many good fans. Fred Saigh, (For the Cardinals Family).” The ticket, which is for Game 4, is complete. Ex with a tiny (1/8”), light stain in the lower right.
Winning Bid $25.

Lot 107.  Framed 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers Team Photo and Marianne Moore’s Poem of Praise. This 19.5” x 25.5” framed display consists of a 12” x 16.75” color photo of the 1955 World Champions and the complete poem by Moore, titled “Hometown Piece for Messrs. Alston and Reese.” At the time, Moore was regarded as one of the most important living U.S. poets. In 1951, her “Collected Poems” received the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. Her Dodgers poem apparently came as something of a surprise to her literary friends. It honors the Dodgers for their World Series success. Nm.
Winning Bid $50.

Lot 108.  Johnny Podres Autographed 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers World Champs Display. On a 7” x 9” photo that shows him celebrating with teammates after the Dodgers captured the World Championship, Podres wrote: “Who’s a Bum, Oct. 4, 1955” and then signed his name. The photo is matted and framed with Willard Mullin’s “Bum” and the front page of the Oct. 5, 1955 New York “Daily News.” The headline exclaims “Who’s a Bum!” Podres pitched a shutout in Game 7 against the Yankees. He also won Game 2 and was named the Series’ MVP. His autograph, authenticated by Kevin Keating, is nm 7 to nm-m 8. The newspaper exhibits some wrinkles. The various pieces are matted and framed to 17” x 21” and ready for display.
Winning Bid $50.

Lot 109.  Detroit Tigers 1960 Popcorn Megaphone. Ex example that still has the handle attached.
Winning Bid $168.
