Lot 179.  Stan Musial Signed 10.25” x 14” Hamm’s Beer Ad. From a 1949 issue of “Look.” The autograph, authenticated by Kevin Keating, is gem mint 10, and the ad, ex-m. Because “Look’s” lower circulation, ads from it are much less common than ads from “Life.” Matted and framed, this autographed advertisement will make a great display piece.

Lot 180.  Stan Musial Autographed May 1, 1954 “Saturday Evening Post.” Mint 9 Musial signature on a John Falter illustration. Falter produced more than 120 “Post” covers from 1943-68. Generally regarded as one of the top 10 baseball players of all-time, Musial entered the Hall of Fame in 1969, his first year of eligibility, with support from more than 93% of the voters. Like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, Musial writes right-handed even though he throws and bats left. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 182.  Phil Rizzuto Autographed April 24, 1951 “Look” Magazine. Bold mint 9 to gem mint 10 signature on a cover photo that shows him with his wife, Cora Anne. The interior has the magazine’s predictions for the 1951 season and an article on the Rizzuto family. Vg issue with a clean photo of Rizzuto and his wife. Authentication by Kevin Keating.

Lot 183.  Bud Selig 1978 Check Signed as Owner of the Milwaukee Brewers. From 1970, Selig headed the Brewers until 1992, when he became acting Baseball Commissioner. He officially became Commissioner in 1998. At the conclusion of the 2012 season, he plans to retire. His signature as “Allan Selig” is gem mint 10 on an Oct. 31, 1978 check signed also by team official Richard R. Hoffmann. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 184.  Burt Shotton (Dodgers Manager) Autographed 8” x 10” B&W Photo. Shotton was Jackie Robinson’s first regular manager in the majors. Shown outside the Dodgers’ Club House, he led the Bums to N.L. pennants in 1947 and 1949. He also managed the Phils and played for the Browns, Senators and Cardinals. His signature, as “B E Shotton,” is nm 7 to nm-m 8, large and personalized. Shotton died in 1962. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 185.  Bill Skowron Autographed Cooperstown Collection Majestic New York Yankees Jersey. Skowron signed the front of this No. 14 home jersey under the prominent Navy-blue “NY”: “Bill ‘Moose’ Skowron.” He added “#14.” Strong signature on the size L mint jersey! Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 186.  Al Smith Autographed Circa 1960 Camel Cigarettes Advertisement. Mint 9 signature by the two-time American League All-Star who played for the Indians, White Sox, Orioles and Red Sox. Twice he helped Cleveland teams to win pennants – the Cleveland Buckeyes of the Negro American League in 1947 and the Cleveland Indians in 1954. He contributed also to a league title for the Chicago White Sox in 1959. Smith died in 2002. His autograph, authenticated by Kevin Keating, is on 10” x 13.25” page from “Ebony” magazine.

Lot 187.  J. G. Taylor Spink Signed Typed 1954 Letter on “Sporting News” Stationery. Spink transformed “The Sporting News” from a struggling enterprise into “the Bible of baseball.” He served as its publisher from 1914 until his death in 1962. He routinely did battle with Judge Landis. After his death, the Baseball Writers Association of America created an award that carries his name to recognize journalists who make outstanding contributions to baseball. Spink was the first to receive the award. In the letter, Spink mentions Clark Griffith and puts in a plug for adding Nick Altrock to the Hall of Fame. Nm-m 8 to mint 9 signature authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 188.  New York Yankees Assignment Agreement Signed by HoF Executive George M. Weiss. Red Smith said of Weiss: “He was incomparably the ablest baseball executive who ever lived, and perhaps the most self-effacing.” Weiss began his career in baseball in 1919 at the age of 24 by purchasing the Eastern League’s New Haven team. In 1929 he left for Baltimore of the International League and later accepted a job with the Yankees. He proceeded to build a strong farm system and subsequently held the job of Yankees’ general manager from 1947 to 1960. During his tenure, the Yankees won 10 pennants and seven World Series. In 1962, he became the first president of the New York Mets. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971 and died in 1972. In a document dated Aug. 25, 1950, he assigns two players to a Yankees’ farm club. His uncommon signature is nm-m 8. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 189.  Carl Yastrzemski Autographed Sept. 8, 1967 “Life.” Superb gem mint 10 signature on the cover of an ex issue. Inside are 10 pages on the A.L. pennant race. After spending his entire career playing left field or first base for the Boston Red Sox, Yaz was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1989. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 190.  Carl Yastrzemski Team-Issued 1975 Boston Red Sox Check. Yastrzemski received the $269.62 check, dated Feb. 26, 1975, during spring training. The season would be his last playing for a pennant winner and would culminate in one of the most memorable World Series. The check apparently was a per diem payment. Yaz has boldly endorsed the back! His signed checks are scarce. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 191.  Ted Williams and Bobby Shantz Autographs. Each signature is on an 8” x 10” “Certified Autograph” sheet that contains a photo of the player, his lifetime statistics and major career achievements. Each was notarized in the mid-1980s by a Florida notary public. The Williams autograph is large and light, ex 5, with all letters visible. The Shantz signature is nm-m 8. Accompanying photos show each player signing. Kevin Keating also authenticated the autographs.

Lot 192.  Mike Schmidt and George Brett Autographed “Sports Illustrated.” Nm-m 8 to mint 9 autographs on the cover of the Aug. 10, 1981 issue. Schmidt and Brett were MVPs of their respective leagues in 1980, and Schmidt captured the award again in 1981. The back cover of the magazine has multiple creases; otherwise, the issue is ex. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
