Olympics   5 Lots

Lot 62.  Baseball Signed to Tommy John by Teenager and A.L. MVP JOSH HAMILTON. In the late 1990s, John coached Charlotte Christian School in the North Carolina High School Baseball Championships at Raleigh. When a woman approached with a baseball, he thought she wanted him to sign it. Instead, she presented him with a baseball autographed by Raleigh native and teenage baseball phenomenon Josh Hamilton! His signature is a 10 on the sweet spot of a nm-m Wilson baseball. The first overall pick in the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft, Hamilton signed the north panel: “To Tommy John, From one Lefty to another!” John signed the south panel; his signature is light. After battling drug and alcohol addiction, Hamilton has had three consecutive All-Star seasons. Last year, he won the A.L. batting championship with a .359 average and drove in 100 runs. He received 22 of 28 votes for MVP. This is a truly unique item linking a great lefty and a lefty with great potential! Kevin Keating authenticated the autographs, and John has provided a letter of provenance.
Winning Bid $354.

Lot 98.  Tommy John’s “Miracle on Ice” Limited-Edition Photo Signed by All 20 Players. In the hockey competition at the 1980 Olympics, the U.S. team upset the vaunted Soviet team and then the Finland team to capture the gold medal. This 20” x 16” action color photo has the signatures of all 20 U.S. players - Mike Eruzione, Neal Broten, Mark Wells, Jim Craig, Buzz Schneider, etc. The blue sharpie signatures, are strong, almost all mint 9 or gem mint 10. Authenticated by Kevin Keating. The photo comes with a brief handwritten signed note by John stating where he purchased the photo.
Winning Bid $640.

Lot 307.  Incredible 1932 Olympics Collection – “Official Report,” Programs and Tickets. The centerpiece of this collection is the “Xth Olympiad Los Angeles 1932 Official Report.” This 816-page hardbound volume provides detailed information on each Olympics event. It is extensively illustrated with photos of the participants. A number of photo plates seem suitable for framing. Among the successful competitors for the U.S. were Babe Didrikson and Eddie Tolan. The book has leather covers with gilt lettering. The covering for the spine is detached but present. The binding remains relatively tight, and the inside pages are nm. A second hardbound volume contains what appears to be a complete set of programs for the Olympiad. There are at least 28 programs, from July 30, 1932, through Aug. 14. The last several pages of the volume show some water stains; otherwise, it is ex+ with programs that generally are ex-m or better. Finally, there are seven wire stories, two Olympic Stadium Passes, including one that still has the stub attached, and more than 40 tickets or stubs for track and field and equestrian events, fencing, swimming, rowing and boxing. This collection represents a real treasure trove. The version of the “Official Report” with leather boards is extremely rare.
Winning Bid $700.
