Lot 447.  Display Consisting of 56 Early 1900s Silks – Most with the Image of an Actress. Forty-two silks feature an actress or another female figure. Sets represented include S1 Actresses (several types), S6 Birds, S25 College Seals, S33 National Flags, S60 State Girl and Flower, S80 Women of Ancient Egypt, S86 State Seals and S88 State Maps. Billie Burke, Adele Blood, Hattie Williams, Gertrude Hoffman and Flora Parker (DeHaven) are among the actresses. Each silk has been sown to a black piece of cloth, which is taped to a stiff paper backing. Each has somewhat heavy pink thread along the edges. The display, which is 15” x 20”, has an attractive appearance, which results in part from the absence of stains or other significant blemishes on all but three of the silks.

Lot 448.  Set of 6 1910 S55 Tobacco Large Silks Featuring “Bathing Girls.” These colorful silks, about 4 ½” x 6 ½”, present attractive young women swimmers in beach scenes. Each has light, inoffensive fraying at the top and bottom – well away from the text and image area. It has not been taken in account in grading the silks: L-1 Ormond Beach vg, L-2 Cape May ex, L-3 Narragansett nm+, L-4 Nantucket ex, L-5 Atlantic City vg+ and L-6 Monmouth Beach ex+. Unlike many other examples, these silks are free of staining or yellowing. A quality set!

Lot 449.  Set of 6 1910 S66 Tobacco Large Silks Featuring “Indian Portraits.” Each silk is about 4 ½” x 6 ¾” and features a colorful portrait of a Native American. Each has inoffensive fraying at the top and bottom, and possibly the sides. The text and image area are not affected. The fraying was not considered in assigning the grades: L-1 vg, L-2 vg+, L-3 ex, L-4 vg, L-5 ex-m, L-6 vg. These silks are free of staining or yellowing.

Lot 450.  34 Different Circa 1910 S67 Tokio Indian Silks. These small (approximately 2” x 3 ¼”) silks, from a set of 50, were issued with and without numbers. Any fraying that does not affect the text or image has not been taken into consideration in grading them. In this collection, 13 different have numbers, and 21 different do not. Four numbered silks are also in the unnumbered group. Silks with numbers are #3 Agate Arrow Point vg, 13 Bull Head g-vg, 17 Black Eye vg, 20 Chief Joseph vg, 22 Big Razor ex-m, 24 Lean Wolf ex, 28 King of the Crows ex, 29 Deer Ham vg-ex, 41 Big Snake vg, 42 Big Chief vg, 47 John Grass vg, 49 Young Black Dog vg and 50 True Eagle vg-ex. Those without numbers are Agate Arrow Point vg-ex, Black Hawk vg-ex, British vg, Bull Head f-g, Cayatanita ex, Chief Gall vg, Clam Fish f-g, Deer Ham f, Great Bear ex-m, Grey Eagle g-vg, Iron Bull ex, Keokuk vg, Many Horns ex, Red Bird g-vg, Red Thunder g, Striker g-vg, True Eagle vg-ex, War Captain vg-ex, Wetcunie vg, White Shield g and Young Whirlwind vg-ex.

Lot 451.  Circa 1904 E239 Limola Gum “Mail Carriers & Stamps” Partial Set of 31 Different. From a scarce set of 48 nicely lithographed cards issued on behalf of the Mansfield Co. of Newark, N.J. Each card, about 4.25” x 2.75”, features a colorful scene of a mail carrier or mail transportation system in various countries and has a facsimile stamp in each corner. Among the countries represented are Canada, China, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Japan, Germany (2 different), Hungary, Mexico, Russia and Spain. The fronts of these cards were stock issue; the backs were printed to promote a variety of products. Consequently, they show up as T132 tobacco cards (Pulliam Cigars), K138 coffee cards (American Coffee and various others) and D73 bakery cards (Tip Top and others). The cards missing from this near set represent Anam (Annam, a section of Vietnam), Bavaria, Bosnia, British Indies, Bulgaria, Denmark, England, France, German SW Africa, North Borneo, Norway, Persia, Portugal, Roumania, Samoa, Sweden and Turkey. The cards grade: Vg-ex: 3 cards. Vg: 14. G-vg: 7. G: 1. F-g: 2. F: 1. P: 3.

Lot 452.  82 Primarily 1926-29 Movie Exhibit Cards, Mostly from Westerns –Mix, Hart, Gibson, Etc. . This collection consists of actor portraits and scenes from movies. A few cards have postcard backs, which are noted. Tom Mix is the subject of eight cards, six different. Four show him alone, one with his horse, Tony, and three with actresses. His films represented are “The Great Train Robbery” and “Timberline.” The list of portraits, some from specific movies and most not, includes: Warner Baxter, Francis X. Bushman Jr., Harry Carey, Ricardo Cortez, Bob Curwood, William Farnum (2 different, one with a postcard back), Charles Farrell (postcard back), Hoot Gibson, Fred Gilman, Pee Wee Holmes, Jack Holt (3 diff.), Jack Hoxie, Glen Hunter, Buck Jones (3 diff.), Rod LaRocque, George Magrill, Ed Maloney, Jim Mason, Ken Maynard, Thomas Meighan, Antonio Moreno, Richard R. Neill, Bud Osborne (3, 2 diff.), Jack Perrin, Roy Stewart, Constance Talmadge (postcard back) and Tom Tyler (3 diff., one postcard back). In a group of cards, individual actors are identified as part of a movie scene: Harry Carey, Wm Desmond (2), Wm. Fairbanks, Wm Farnum, Neal Hart, Wm. S. Hart, Jack Hoxie (3, 2 diff.), Lloyd Hughes, Roy Hughes, Buck Jones (2 diff.), Pete Morrison (2 diff.) and Tom Tyler (2 diff.). In another group, cards identify movie titles, two actors or both: “Brass Knuckles” (Monte Blue and Betty Bronson), “Caesar’s Wife” (Corrine Griffith and Percy Marmont), “Chicago,” “The College Widow” (2), “Frying Pan” (Elmo Lincoln and Fred Thompson), “The Pony Express” (2 diff.), “A Sailor’s Sweetheart” (2) and “Shipwrecked.” Four of these cards have postcard backs. Finally, nine cards are without a title or actor clearly identified; five of these cards have actors representing Indians. Twenty cards have either been stamped or show writing on the back. Lot 454.  1930s Mutoscope “Bandleaders” Exhibit Set of 32 Cards with Postcard Backs. Sometimes seen as singles, these cards are seldom offered as a complete set. In producing the set, Mutoscope used photos provided by MCA, the Music Corporation of America. Bandleaders pictured are Count Basie, Henry Busse, Bob Crosby, Xavier Cugat, Tommy Dorsey, Eddie Duchin, Shep Fields, Jan Garber, Benny Goodman, Johnny Green, Phil Harris (2 different), Horace Heidt, Richard Himber, Harry James, Sammy Kaye, Wayne King, Kay Kyser, Guy Lombardo, Clyde Lucas, Abe Lyman, Enric Madriguera, Frankie Masters, Glen (Glenn) Miller, Ozzie Nelson, Red Nichols, Red Norvo, Buddy Rogers, Jack Teagarden, Tommy Tucker, Ted Weems and Lawrence Welk. Six cards are ex, and one (Himber) is f-g. The others are graded vg+ to ex because of a small crease in the lower right corner. Almost all are free of creases in the body of the card.

Lot 455.  Circa 1940s Exhibit Supply Co. 4-in-1 Cowboy Near Set of 26. High-quality original near set of exhibit cards featuring such cowboy stars as Gene Autry, Bill Boyd (Hopalong Cassidy), Johnny Mack Brown, Buster Crabbe, Bill Elliott, Monte Hale, Tim Holt, Buck Jones, the Lone Ranger, Ken Maynard, Tim McCoy, Tex Ritter, Roy Rogers, Bob Steele and many more. The six missing cards have these stars in the upper right: Jimmy Dodd, Dick Horan, Buck Jones, Elton Britt, Jack Warner or Edmund Cobb. These cards grade ex-m to ex-m+ overall. This set likely contains more cowboy stars of the 1920s-40s than any other.

Lot 458.  1956 Topps Davy Crockett Orange Back Near Set of 76 with 8 Cards PSA-Graded. Four cards are missing from this near set, which averages vg-ex. Five of the PSA-graded cards are ex or better: EX-MT 6 - #9, 36 and 55. EX 5 - #45, 56, 64 and 80. VG 3 - #1. The missing cards are #15, 16, 32 and 79. The other 68 cards grade Ex-m: 2 cards. Ex+: 9.
