Tommy John Baseball Memorabilia   11 Lots      



Lot 1.  Tommy John California Angels Home Uniform. Traded to the Angels in August 1982, John pitched for the Anaheim team until June 1985. Offered here is a complete uniform, including a jacket. Manufactured by Wilson, the size 46 jersey has an embroidered tag for 1984. Nm. The pants have a stitched label inside with John’s uniform number, his inseam length and “85.” Red stirrups and red and white Converse shows are part of the uniform, as well as a beige and red undershirt. All show good use. The hat, which shows substantial use, has John’s No. 25 on the underside of the bill. The Angels’ jacket has “TJ” on the manufacturer’s label inside; nm-m. No other Angels’ jersey is in the collection. At the request of the winning bidder, John will autograph the cap, jersey, pants, shoes and jacket. In addition, he will personalize the jersey autograph and add up to five notations. This is a rare collectible from one of the best left-handed pitchers in major league history and an excellent candidate for eventual enshrinement at Cooperstown. Comes with a letter signed by John.

Lot 7.  Tommy John’s 1978 All-Star Game Ring. John joined LA Dodgers teammates Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes, Rick Monday, Reggie Smith and Ron Cey on the roster for an All-Star Game won by the N.L., 7-3. His ring has a cubic zirconia within an onyx stone on a base of siladium metal. “San Diego,” the Padres’ logo and “All-Star Game” are on one side of the ring. John’s name, the MLB logo and “1978” are on the other. Nm. Here is a rare opportunity to own a significant collectible from the seventh-winningest left-handed pitcher in the history of Major League Baseball! A letter of authenticity from John is included.

Lot 104.  “Home Run Galop To The Atlantic Club of Chicago” 1867 Sheet Music. This sheet music is for one of the earliest half-dozen songs dedicated to baseball. It was written by F. W. Root, a Boston composer, conductor and vocal music teacher. This original copy of the instrumental is in extremely strong condition. There are a few splits and tiny tears along the spine. A notation is written along the left side, outside the image area of the cover, in steel-tipped fountain pen: “Mrs. Emily Camp Everrderr from George H Gillette.” In addition, the blank back page is held in place on a stiff paper backing for framing by archival tape. The overall appearance is ex. A “galop” is a lively, double-rhythm dance popular in the 19th century. This dynamic dance tune can be heard on the Internet at the PD Music Site. Anyone who has heard the 1938 Bob Wills version of “Ida Red” has heard a portion of F. W. Root’s work. In creating lyrics for the western swing version of the traditional American song, Wills borrowed from Root’s 1979 song “Sunday Night.” The “Home Run Galop” sheet music is double-matted and framed to 14.75” x 18.5”. It comes with a letter from Tommy John stating it is from his collection.

Lot 105.  Warren Spahn Original Hartland Figure. Two of the best lefties ever to pitch in the majors, Spahn and Tommy John were friends. John is fond of quoting Spahn as saying that if a fan asks a player for an autograph, he has an obligation to give the fan the best autograph possible. The Hartland figure is white and shows minor wear on the elbows, shoes and bill of the cap. It comes with a letter from John stating it is from his collection.

Lot 106.  1961-62 Mini-Series Cleveland Indians Mascot Bobbing Head. The Indian head of this scarce doll tilts to the right, has a small chip on the left ear, several cracks on the left cheek, a small chip out of the back of the head and some marks on the back of the neck. “Cleveland” appears to be printed on the green base. It displays decently and is the only bobble head from the mini-series in the Tommy John collection. John began his major league career with the Indians in 1963 and pitched there in 1964 as well. The bobbing head comes with a letter of authenticity signed by John.

Lot 107.  2 Chicago White Sox Green-Base Bobbing Heads – 1963-65 and 1980s. The 1963-65 boy-head nodder is nm-m with only a barely noticeable hairline crack on the back of his head. The more recent bobbing head has cracks and a chip on the left side of his face. They come with a letter signed by John stating they are from his collection. John pitched for the White Sox from 1965-71.

Lot 108.  Tommy John’s 1966-71 LA Dodgers Gold Base Bobbing Head. Nm-m example with a small chip on the underside of the bill of the cap and very minor wear on the “LA” decal on the cap. In addition, “25,” John’s uniform number, has been added to the back of the jersey. A letter signed by John confirms that the nodder is from his collection. It is accompanied also by a 1974 plastic bobbing head. John pitched for the Dodgers form 1972-78, with an interruption for surgery and recovery during part of the 1974 season and all of 1975. With the Dodgers, he won 87 games and lost 42.

Lot 109.  1970s-80s Indians Mascot Bobbing Head and Tommy John Signed Baseball Cards! The ceramic 7” green-base nodder, likely made in Taiwan, wears a black jersey. The “Indians” decal on the jersey shows wear on three letters; otherwise, nm. The bobbing head comes with a letter signed by John stating it is from his collection. It is accompanied also by two autographed baseball cards: John’s rookie card, 1964 Topps #146, and 2003 Topps Certified Autograph Issue, TA-TJ. The autograph on the rookie card is nm-m 8, large and bold with “hn” extending into a dark background. The signature on the second card is a 10. John played in six games with Cleveland in 1963, and 25 in 1964. Kevin Keating authenticated the autographs.

Lot 110.  Tommy John California Angels Bobbing Head and Autographed Cards and Photos. The 1970s-80s green-base ceramic nodder has a chip in the back of the head; otherwise, nm-m. Accompanying it are eight cards and two photos with nm-m 8 to gem mint 10 Tommy John autographs. The signed cards are 1983 Topps #735 and 736, 1984 #415 and 1985 #179; 1984 Donruss Champions #36 (f card), 1983 Fleer #95 and 1984 #522. There also is a signed light-yellow index card that has a sticker showing John on it. The two other signatures are on Angels 8.5” x 11” team photos for 1983 and 1984. The autograph on the 1984 photo is personalized. In addition, this group comes with a letter signed by John saying it is from his collection.

Lot 112.  Harmon Killebrew “Signature” Leather Jacket from Tommy John’s Collection. Key home run dates in Killebrew’s distinguished career are presented on the cloth lining on the inside of this size 3XL bomber-style black jacket. Killebrew’s facsimile signature appears on a label inside. This uncommon Killebrew collectible comes from a signed letter “From the Desk of Tommy John.”
