 Lot 50. LA Dodgers’ Appreciation Award by Tiffany & Co. to Tommy John. The oval leaded glass award, with a diameter of approximately 4.75”, depicts Dodger Stadium and has a facsimile autograph of Peter O’Malley. Text around the rim expresses “great appreciation” to John “for your dedicated service with the Los Angeles Dodgers.” Mint. The award comes with a signed letter “From the Desk of Tommy John.”

 Lot 85. Tommy John Wood Baseball Glove Autographed by Snider, Drysdale and Other Dodgers. Unusual display item, a wood “sculpture” produced in 1988 by Tiffany Hopkinson. The “glove” is full-sized and is complete with leather laces. The back of the glove is signed by John, Duke Snider, Don Drysdale, Cal Abrams, Steve Garvey, Cecil Espy, Bill Russell, Steve Yeager, Bill Madlock, Nate Oliver, Derrell Thomas, Pat Zachary, Danny Ozark and several others. The signatures average nm-m 8. Authenticated by Kevin Keating and accompanied by a signed letter “From the Desk of Tommy John.”

 Lot 86. 5 Tommy John Collection Baseballs Signed by Dodgers Stars – Koufax, Snider, Black, Etc. The autographs vary among the baseballs; Sandy Koufax signed four of them. Unless otherwise noted, the signatures average nm-m 8 to mint 9 on ONL nm-m or better William White baseballs. On the first ball, which has 29 autographs, the sweet spot is unsigned. The north panel has signatures by Spider Jorgensen, Shotgun Shuba, Norm Larker, Al Ferrara, Jim Campanis, Sandy Koufax and Chuck Churn; the south, Nate Oliver, John Kennedy, Dick Teed, Darrell Griffith, Dick Gray, Chuck Churn, Von Joshua and Doug Rau; the east, Tommy John, Don LeJohn, Claude Osteen, Ralph Branca, Clem Labine, Clyde King, Joe Black and Johnny Klippstein, and the west, Pete Coscarart, Carroll Beringer, John Roseboro, Burk Hooton, Joe Becker and Derrell Thomas. 2. 29 signatures, Coscarart on the sweet spot.  Lot 174. PSA-Graded Bat, Jersey or Autograph Cards: Campanella, Hodges, Podres, Robinson, Reese. Four of these stars constitute four-fifths of the infield for the 1955 World Champion Brooklyn Dodgers. Podres, of course, was the team’s pitching hero. The Campanella and Reese cards are 2001 Upper Deck Hall of Famers Cooperstown Collection issues. PSA graded both NM-MT 8. The Campanella card, B-RCa, features a game-used bat section, and the Reese card, J-PW, a game-used jersey section. Hodges is the subject of a 2006 Upper Deck Epic Materials–Green game-used bat card, EM-GH, that PSA graded Gem Mint 10. THE CARD IS #5 OF ONLY 50. Jackie Robinson is the focus of another limited-edition card, LM-JR, from Upper Deck’s 2004 Legendary Materials product. The PSA NM-MT 8 card includes a game-used jersey patch. In 2005, Topps issued Team Topps card #TT-JP, which features a Podres autograph. PSA graded the card NM-MT+ 8.5 and certified the autograph. Kevin Keating also authenticated the autograph.  Lot 349. 10 Photos Autographed by 1950s Brooklyn Dodgers – Reese, Snider, Bessent, Etc. Unless otherwise noted, the signatures are on 8” x 10” color photos. Bessent, who helped the Dodgers win their only World Championship, is a relatively scarce autograph. He went 8-1 in 1955 with a 2.70 ERA and pitched 3.1 scoreless innings in the World Series. He passed away in 1990. Besides Bessent, five other signers were members of the 1955 World Championship team: Clem Labine, Don Newcombe, Johnny Podres, Pee Wee Reese and Duke Snider. The other signers are Gino Cimoli, Al Gionfriddo, Rocky Nelson, all on b&w photos, and Andy Pafko. The autographs are 10s. Gionfriddo, Labine, Nelson, Podres and Reese are also deceased.  Lot 350. 1955 Game 7 Dodgers at Yankees World Series Program Vintage-Scored! While programs from the only World Series the Bums ever won are not uncommon, vintage-scored examples, particularly from this most important game, are virtually non-existent. We do not recall seeing another. The program is nicely scored. On the front cover is written “7th Game 62,465” - the day’s attendance. Otherwise, the program has a vg-ex Lon Keller cover and an ex interior.

 Lot 351. Ebbets Field “A Field in Flatbush” Print and Brick. Built in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn and opened in 1913, Ebbets Field served as home to the Dodgers until 1957. The ball park was demolished in 1960 to make way for an apartment building. From a painting by Bill Levers, the 25” x 23” lithograph presents a 22.75” x 17” image of the Ebbets Field exterior in the 1950s. Below the image is a section of brick removed from the rotunda area during demolition. It is attached to the glass of the 25.5” x 23.5” frame. Text to the left and right says “An Authentic Piece of Baseball History.” In pencil, the title of the lithograph is written above. The print is numbered 1512 of 1957 at the left, and Levers signed it in pencil at the right. Kevin Keating authenticated Levers’ autograph.

 Lot 352. Brooklyn Dodgers Limited-Edition Display of 1951, 1952 and 1954 Baseball Cards. The 1951 Dodgers were victims of the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World,” and the 1952 team won the N.L. pennant. These two teams and the 1954 Dodgers are represented in 44 cards on this attention-grabbing 22.5” x 25.5” Ernie Montella laminated display plaque. Co-founder of the Philadelphia A’s Historical Society, Montella used his talents to produce very-limited-edition plaques using a combination of vintage, “archives” and reproduction cards. This plaque is unique; he did not make any others like it. The cards in this display, which includes an aerial image of Ebbets Field, are laminated, with a linen finish, to mahogany. Among the cards are 1951 Bowman Snider, Reese and Campanella cards, 1951 Hodges and 1954 Robinson, Hodges, Gilliam, Black, Labine, Lasorda and Snider. There also is a 1994 Topps “1954” archives card of Clemente as a member of the Montreal Royals. The plaque has a scratch on the Clemente card; otherwise, it is nm. Montella signed the back of the display. (Note: This display weighs approximately 14 pounds.)

 Lot 353. Brooklyn Dodgers Display of 26 1953 Baseball Cards. This Ernie Montella display plaque consists of a 1953 Billy Loes card and 25 1991 Topps “1953” archives cards laminated to a 19.5” x 25” mahogany backing. The stars are present who helped the Dodgers win the N.L. pennant. Among them are Jackie Robinson and Gil Hodges. Artwork shows a game in progress at Ebbets Field. Montella is best known as co-founder of the Philadelphia A’s Historical Society. Over the years, he also has produced a number of attractive limited-edition plaques that he offered at national shows or made on commission for baseball players and athletes. No more than six of these plaques were created. (Note: This display weighs approximately 11 pounds.) This very limited nm plaque has a glossy finish.

 Lot 354. Ernie Montella 1955 World Champion Brooklyn Dodgers Baseball Card Display. Widely recognized as a co-founder of the Philadelphia A’s Historical Society, Montella is also appreciated for his attractive limited-edition laminated displays of actual baseball cards. In 1995, he produced a 26” x 22.5” plaque honoring the 1955 Dodgers. Autographed by 1955 World Series MVP Johnny Podres, it consists of 40 archives cards issued by Topps in 1995, including Don Drysdale, who spent the 1955 season with the Dodgers’ Montreal farm club. With the cards laminated on mahogany, the display has a linen finish. Montella produced no more than 12 of these plaques. He signed this example on the back. Nm.  Lot 355. “1955” World Champion Dodgers Display of S. Rini Postcards on an Ernie Montella Plaque. This laminated 24.5” x 24.5” display plaque is one-of-a-kind. It features the photo portions of 29 cards in postcard sets created from S. Rini artwork. Twenty-seven cards apparently are from 1988 Set 1, and the two other cards, from 1991 Set 3 and Set 4. Montella, co-founder of the Philadelphia A’s Historical Society, produced unique and very limited-edition display plaques using a combination of actual cards and reprinted versions. The cards in this display are laminated, with a glossy finish, to mahogany board. Ebbets Field is depicted, along with individuals who were part of the 1955 Dodgers’ organization: Alston, Amoros, Barber, Black, Campanella, Craig, Durocher and Barber, Erskine, Furillo, Gilliam, Herman, Hodges, Labine, Loes, MacPhail, Newcombe, O’Malley, Podres, Reese, Robinson (2 different), Roe, Roebuck, Shuba, Snider, R. Walker, Zimmer and the Dodgers Sym-Phony Band. This is an outstanding, unique commemorative of the Brooklyn Dodgers’ only championship season.

 Lot 391. Don Drysdale (HoF) Gem Mint 10 Autograph on an Nm-M ONL Giamatti Baseball. In a 14-season career that produced 209 victories, a .557 winning percentage and a 2.95 ERA, Drysdale won the 1962 Cy Young Award and earned All-Star honors eight times. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame 1984. A successful broadcaster after his playing days ended, he was in Montreal to broadcast a game when passed away in 1993. Drysdale’s sweet spot signature is unimprovable. The ball has the slightest hint of toning on one panel. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
