Lot 188. Byron White Autograph – NFL Star, College HoFer and U.S. Supreme Court Justice. President John F. Kennedy appointed White to the Supreme Court in 1962. He retired from the court in 1993 and passed away in 2002. Before pursuing a career in law, White became one of the highest-paid players in the NFL. After a Hall of Fame career at the University of Colorado, he led the Pittsburgh Pirates (Steelers) and the NFL in rushing in 1938. Following a year at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, he again led the league in rushing, this time with the Detroit Lions. He played one more NFL season before entering the U.S. Navy in World War II. After the war, he attended law school, rather than continuing his football career. White’s signature is nm-m 8 to mint 9 on a 4” x 6” index card that has a picture of him with President Kennedy. Lot 189. 4 Pittsburgh Steelers Books and a Super Bowl XIV Program. Pittsburgh defeated the L.A. Rams in Super Bowl XIV, 31-19. The program is vg-ex. The books, all hardbacks, are: “Fighting Back,” Rocky Bleier, 1975, inscription on flyleaf, vg-ex book, vg dust jacket. “Super Steelers!
