Pittsburgh Steelers and Other Pittsburgh Football   4 Lots

Lot 182.  Autograph of Curtis Martin, Future Football Hall of Famer, on an OAL Baseball. Martin retired after the 2005 seasons as the NFL’s fourth all-time leading rusher. He was chosen for the Pro Bowl five times and was an All-Pro first team selection in 2001 and 2004. The NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1995, he gained at least 1,000 yards in 10 consecutive seasons. Snubbed by the NFL voters this year with some very good company, he seems certain to be chosen eventually. His signature is a gem mint 10 on the sweet spot of an nm-m OAL Budig baseball. He added his uniform number, and there appears to be a correction on the second number. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Minimum Bid $20.

Lot 188.  Byron White Autograph – NFL Star, College HoFer and U.S. Supreme Court Justice. President John F. Kennedy appointed White to the Supreme Court in 1962. He retired from the court in 1993 and passed away in 2002. Before pursuing a career in law, White became one of the highest-paid players in the NFL. After a Hall of Fame career at the University of Colorado, he led the Pittsburgh Pirates (Steelers) and the NFL in rushing in 1938. Following a year at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, he again led the league in rushing, this time with the Detroit Lions. He played one more NFL season before entering the U.S. Navy in World War II. After the war, he attended law school, rather than continuing his football career. White’s signature is nm-m 8 to mint 9 on a 4” x 6” index card that has a picture of him with President Kennedy. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $35.

Lot 189.  4 Pittsburgh Steelers Books and a Super Bowl XIV Program. Pittsburgh defeated the L.A. Rams in Super Bowl XIV, 31-19. The program is vg-ex. The books, all hardbacks, are: “Fighting Back,” Rocky Bleier, 1975, inscription on flyleaf, vg-ex book, vg dust jacket. “Super Steelers! The Making of a Dynasty,” Lou Sahadi, 1980, owner’s name inside front cover, nm/ex-m. “Lost Sundays,” 1989, ex/ex (price clipped). “Keep the Faith,” Jim O’Brien, 1997, inscription on title page, nm/ex.
