Lot 251. 1950 Brooklyn at New York Program. Ex+ 20-page program for an early July series has a number of racial barrier breakers in the pre-printed lineup, including Jackie Robinson for the Dodgers and Monte Irvin and Hank Thompson for the Giants. Thompson was the first African-American to play for the St. Louis Browns, and on July 8, 1949, he and Irvin became the Giants’ first black players. Manager Leo Durocher is pictured in the program.

Lot 257. Puzzle Picturing the 1952 Brooklyn Dodgers and an Autographed Original Box. Produced by Card Memorabilia Associates of Peekskill, NY, the puzzle was originally housed in 9” x 7” box that pictures the team on the lid. The box is ex-m+, and five dodgers autographed the lid: Pee Wee Reese, Joe Black, Carl Erskine, Clem Labine and Andy Pafko. The 500-piece 16” x 20’ jig-saw puzzle has been put together and framed for display. One piece of the puzzle is a replacement. The 1952 Dodgers captured the National League pennant. Lot 258. 1945 Brooklyn Dodgers Roster Featuring Players in Military Service. This three-panel roster opens to 8.5” x 12”. The cover lists 34 Dodgers serving in World War II, including Pee Wee Reese, Billy Herman, Gil Hodges, Stan Rojek and Pete Reiser. Reese is pictured on the cover. The roster is separated along one of the folds and has extensive notations. It’s not a thing of beauty, but it’s not common either.

Lot 259. 1955-56 Schaefer Beer Promo Featuring the 1955 World Champion Brooklyn Dodgers. Apparently a bar promotion, this original postcard-sized (4” x 5 ½” foldout pictures the Dodgers team on the front and a bottle of Schaefer Beer on the back. Vg+ to ex with a very light stain along the bottom edge. The foldout is accompanied by an 8 ½” x 11 page that identifies each of the players.

Lot 260. Dodgers “Blue Books,” 1960s Yearbooks, 1965 W.S. Program and Books – This collection includes a nm 1965 Dodgers World Series program. LA defeated Minnesota in seven games. The yearbooks are for 1963 (Wills on the cover), 1966 (Alston), 1967, 1968 (Koufax, Alston, Drysdale and others), 1971, 1973, 1975 (Garvey), 1976, 1977 and 1981. The yearbook for 1963 is vg+ to ex, while 1967, 1968, 1971 and 1975 are ex-m+ to nm-m. The 1966 yearbook shows light wrinkling from water, and the four others exhibit wrinkles and stains. The “Blue Books,” which contain a wealth of historical information, cover 1978-93, 1996-99, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005. The issues for 1999 and later also contain the “Baby Blue Casebook.” The 1978, 1980, 1981, 1983, 1985 and 1986 issues are ex. The “Blue Books” for 1979 and 1982 are vg-ex; the 1984 edition has a torn cover and otherwise is vg+. The publications for 1987 and later average nm. There also are three books: “The Los Angeles Dodgers” by Richard Whittingham, 1982 stated first edition hardback, nm book, vg-ex dust jacket. “A Day in the Season of the Los Angeles Dodger,” Tom Zimmerman, 1990 apparent first edition hardback, nm book, vg+ dj. And “The Dodgers Move West,” Neil J. Sullivan, 1987 paperback, ex-m, owner’s name inside. Proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).

Lot 261. “Dodger Classics” and 2 Other Books on the Dodgers of Brooklyn and L.A. The key book is Robert L. Tiemann’s 1983 self-published hardback, “Dodger Classics: Outstanding Games From Each Season of the Dodgers’ 101 Seasons 1883-1983.” This first edition, which contains 350 pages, is nm in an ex dust jacket that has a couple of very small tears in the upper left. The two other books are paperbacks: John F. Grabowski’s self-published “Dodgers Trivia,” 1988, ex, and Gene Schoor’s “The Complete Dodgers Record Book,” 1984, water damaged, reader copy.

Lot 262. 3 B&W Photos of Sandy Koufax. Two 8” x 10” photos, which likely are older reproductions, depict a very young Koufax. In an AP wire photo dated 1954, he is shown as a University of Cincinnati pitching star “ready to be signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers for an estimated $20,000 bonus.” The second photo shows him as a student at drafting board, apparently in 1955. Also, a 1964 7” x 9” UPI wire photo, apparently Type 1, captures Koufax in action against the St. Louis Cardinals. He won his 19th game and struck out 10 batters or more for the 61st time. The photos average ex.

Lot 263. 50 Photos of Brooklyn Dodgers Including Vintage Wire Photos. This photos are primarily on 8” x 10” glossy photo stock. The earliest photo, from 1932, shows Hall of Fame outfielder Max Carey, the Brooklyn manager, instructing a group of young pitchers at spring training. Among them are Vickers, Mungo, Mattingly, Gallivan and Crider. This 8” x 10” Type 1 photo is ex with a chip in the upper right corner outside the image area. Tom Tatum and Tom Drake are sharply in focus in a 1941 7” x 9” photo from Wide World Photos, 1” edge tear, otherwise ex. An 8” x 10” Barney Stein 1944 photo shows Gil English, Luis Olmo, Gene Mauch and Howie Schultz, ex. The 18-year-old Mauch appeared in only 15 games with the Dodgers. Wire photos of the 1950s, all 8” x 10” with the caption, show Carl Erskine after recording his 20 th win with Roy Campanella and Wayne Belardi (1953, AP, ex); HoF manager Walt Alston, about to make his major league managerial debut, with Erskine (1954, AP, vg+ to ex), and Duke Snider, in the locker room after the Dodgers captured their first World Championship (1955, AP, ex). A 5” x 7” photo from the early 1950s depicts the Dodgers before a game at Ebbets Field; Campanella is clearly visible, ex. Three wire photos are 1970s facsimiles: 1971, Eddie Stanky, French Bordagaray, Rube Marquard, Van Lingle Mungo, Erskine and Babe Herman at a piano, vg+; 1972, Gil Hodges, Campanella, Jackie Robinson, Snider and Carl Furillo in a 1953 photo issued at Hodges’ death, ex; and 1973, Ralph Miller, who broke in with the Dodgers in 1898, at his passing. Among the reproduction photos, all 8” x 10”, are the 1941, 1942, 1949, 1952 and 1955 teams and an aerial of Ebbets Field; b&w photos of Furillo, Marquard, Hodges (2 different), Campanella, Reiser, Reese (2), Abrams (sepia), Snider (2 diff.), Drysdale, Alston, Durocher, Cadore, Grimes and Carey. There also are 8” x 10” photos of Campanella’s home run in the 1953 World Series and a composite with Podres, Campanella, Erskine, Snider, Hodges and Reese. Color repro photos show Roe and Podres; Reese; Snider, Hodges, Campanella and Furillo; Erskine; Snider, and Campanella. Also: Eight sepia lithographed 11” x 14” photos of Drysdale, Koufax, Campanella, Camilla, Robinson, Reiser, Campanella after hitting a home run, and Snider, Campanella, Reese and Snider. An 11” x 14” photo of the exterior of Ebbets Field. And an 11” x 14” color photo of the 1955 World Series Champions.

Lot 264. 8 Brooklyn Dodgers Pins, Including 1956 Topps, and a Koufax Money Clip. A 3 ½” pin from the 1960s features a b&w image of Don Drysdale against a light-blue background. Vg. Subjects of the Topps pins are Hodges vg+, Snider g+ to vg and Spooner vg. Koufax is pictured on a money clip that doubles as a pen knife, g+. There also are four 2 ½” flicker pins, one with Koufax, one with Drysdale and two that say “Dodgers Our Champs.”

Lot 272. Steve Yeager Professional Model Louisville Slugger T141 Mid-1980s Bat. Yeager spent his entire career, from 1972-86, with the Los Angeles Dodgers. His No. 7 is on the knob of the bat, which has a small crack and chip on the handle and shows rack marks and limited use.
