Chicago White Sox   9 Lots

Lot 155.  Scarce Copy of Nellie Fox’s Biography with Signatures of the Authors and Mrs. Fox. This self-published 2000 softcover is difficult to find. Titled “Little Nel: The Nellie Fox Story,” it was written by David Gough and Jim Bard and has a foreword by Joanne Fox, Nellie’s widow. Both Gough and Bard are members of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR). They signed a letter asking a writer to review the book. Mrs. Fox signed the foreword. The 326-page book, which is decently illustrated with photos, has creases in the upper corners. Otherwise, the book is clean and desirable because of its scarcity and the autographs. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Minimum Bid $40.

Lot 241.  Detroit at Chicago June 1945 Scorecard. This scorecard is scored, although for what game is unclear. It is dated June 17 and shows a 7-1 Chicago win with Haynes and Orval Grove pitching. In reality, Lee pitched and won for the Sox that day, 6-1. Box scores have been added to the scorecard for a 6-1 loss on June 16 and a 7-5 win on June 17. A small photo of Grove is inside. Vg-ex.
Winning Bid $15.

Lot 242.  1945 Athletics at White Sox Scorecard. Vg+ to ex, neatly scored in pencil, a small “8” on the front cover and two copies of the box score added inside. Philadelphia’s George Kell collected two hits and drove in three runs as the A’s defeated Chicago and Ed Lopat, 5-2.
Winning Bid $25.

Lot 243.  May 13, 1945 Washington Senators at Chicago White Sox Scorecard. Unscored, the scorecard has the box score glued inside. Toning inside and a small “10” on the front cover; otherwise, ex.
Minimum Bid $10.

Lot 244.  1945 Red Sox at White Sox Scorecard. Boston won, 9-8. Neatly scored in pencil, the scorecard has the box score glued inside, along with two rain checks. Vg-ex with a very small “11” written on the front cover.
Winning Bid $20.

Lot 245.  June 7, 1945 St. Louis Browns at Chicago Scorecard Featuring Pete Gray. The one-armed outfielder collected two hits in four at bats and scored a run as the Brown defeated the White Sox, 6-2. The program is neatly scored in blue pencil. Inside, the scoring is surrounded by the box score and articles related to the game, including a photo of Gray. A small article points out that Gray’s real name was Peter Wyshner. The scorecard has multiple vertical creases, and “Duplicate Copy on Pete Gray” is written on the front cover.
Winning Bid $10.

Lot 246.  1945 New York Yankees at Chicago White Sox Scorecord. Unscored, light to moderate toning inside, “#2” in pencil inside and small “34” on the cover suggest it’s for the second game of a July 1 or July 2 doubleheader. Vg-ex.
Winning Bid $25.

Lot 247.  1945 Chicago White Sox Scorecard Scored for an Aug. 16 Game vs. Boston. The scorecard was created for a Yankees game, but the owner adapted it for a game in which the White Sox defeated the Red Sox, 11-3. It is neatly scored in pencil with the Red Sox lineup added. Some pencil doodles decorate the inside, and a small “45” is on the front cover. Vg-ex.
Minimum Bid $10.

Lot 248.  Aug. 28, 1945 Cleveland at Chicago Scorecard. Unscored, box score and the teams’ batting averages added inside, along with two rain checks for the night game, tape along the spine and a tape repair of one of two tears on the back, a small “49” on the front cover.
Winning Bid $15.
