New York Mets   4 Lots

Lot 2.  N.Y. Mets “Superstars” Bonanza – 1992, 1993 and 2000 UNCATALOGED Sets! And related promotional items as well! Apparently beginning in 1992, the Port St. Lucie News and The Stuart News newspapers issued full-newspaper-page color posters (about 13 ¾” x 22 ¾”) of 10 Mets players in the newspaper during spring training. SCD’s Standard Catalog has cataloged most of the 1992 set, but not the 1993 and later sets. The checklist for 1992 is: Bonilla, Coleman, Elster, Franco, Hundley, Howard Johnson, Magadan, Murray, Randolf (Randolph) and Saberhagen. In this collection, there are two copies of the Saberhagen poster, and the Johnson poster has a personalized autograph. These posters are generally as issued and nm. The checklist for 1993 is: Bonilla, Coleman, Sid Fernandez, Tony Fernandez, Franco, Hundley, Johnson, Kent, Murray and Ryan Thompson. There are two copies of the Thompson poster. These posters are printed on thinner paper stock than the 1992 issue and are a mix of vg-ex and ex+. In this collection, the 1992 set is accompanied by nine of 10 smaller photos that were intended to be cut out and placed on a playing field poster issued by the newspapers. These photos were part of promotional ads for the posters. Each is about 2 ½” x 3 ½” with a black border. According to the ad, “At the conclusion of this promotion, you will have a complete line-up with all the playing positions filled.” The playing field posters are present for 1992 and 1993. Each has a space for photos of 10 position players, including a relief pitcher. Johnson is missing from this collection. Nm photos. Interestingly, a promotion for the 1993 playing field features Dwight Gooden, but apparently a poster of him was not issued. The checklist for 2000 apparently is complete with: Alfonzo, Benitez, Cook, Franco, Hamilton, Rickey Henderson, Leiter, Ordonez, Piazza, Reed, Wendell and a Spring Training Schedule poster that pictures 10 players. A mix of vg-ex and ex. There also are several posters for 2001: Alfonzo, Franco, Ordonez and Zeile, ex. And 2002: Burnitz and Glavine, vg+ to ex. In addition, there are 1992 posters of Sid Fernandez and Johnson (personalized autograph) from the Tribune. If you’re looking for something you won’t see every day, this is it! 50+ items! Autographs authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Minimum Bid $75.

Lot 124.  Official 1986 World Series Baseball Signed by Bill Buckner and Mookie Wilson. Both players placed gem mint 10 signatures on the sweet spot. On Oct. 25, 1986, the date Wilson added to the ball, Buckner made one of the biggest fielding errors in baseball history. That night, in Game 6 of the World Series, the Boston Red Sox were three outs away from defeating the New York Mets and capturing their first world championship since Babe Ruth was a 23-year-old pitcher-outfielder. The Red Sox entered the bottom of the 10th inning with a three games to two edge in the series and a 5-2 lead in the game. Through no fault of Buckner’s, the Red Sox blew the lead. With the scored tied and Ray Knight on second base, Wilson hit a grounder toward Buckner, Boston’s first baseman. Buckner allowed to the ball to go between his legs into right field, and Knight scored the winning run. The Mets won the series the next day. The ball is nm-m with light, even toning. Autographs authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $45.

Lot 126.  ONL Giamatti Baseball Signed by Mets Record-Setting Relievers McDowell and Innis. In 1986, Roger McDowell set a New York Mets record for appearances by a pitcher at 75. Jeff Innis eclipsed the record in 1992 with 76 relief stints. Both pitchers signed the east panel. The autographs are mint 9s. The ball has some discoloration spots primarily away from the autographs, which have been authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Minimum Bid $15.

Lot 197.  New York Mets Yearbooks and Programs. Yearbooks are for 1986 ex, 1988 nm-m and 1992 mint. A 1988 program for a game with the Reds is ex-m. There also are two 1988 spring training programs, one ex-m+ and one vg-ex, and one for 1989, vg.
Minimum Bid $15.
