Lot 156.  15 Cards Covering Tennis, Soccer, Cricket, Boxing and the Olympics. Fourteen are British issues. The boxing card is #22 Billy Matthews from the 1929 Godfrey Phillips “Sporting Champions” set, ex. Godfrey Phillips is also the source of #6 featuring runner D. Lowe from the 1928 “Olympic Champions, Amsterdam 1928” set, f-g. Four soccer cards are from different sets, #31 T. Manley from 1939 Churchman “Association Footballers, 2nd Series,” ex-m+, #48 H. Hibbs from 1935 Ardath “Sports Champions” (two lines) g, #40 from Player 1934 “Hints on Association Football” g and #37, possibly from a Japanese issue, ex-m+. One tennis card, #17 Hardwick, is from the 1936 Player issue “Tennis,” ex, and six are from the 1938 Ardath “Tennis” set, #5 Landry vg-ex, 8 Lee ex-m, 12 Scriven vg, 32 James f-g, 44 Wilde vg and 46 Menzel f-g. Two sets provide the cricketers, the 1926 Wills New Zealand issue, #16 Watson nm-m and 18 Hallows ex-m+, and 1930 Sweetacre “Sports Champions” (“Champion Chewing Gum”) #48 Hird, vg. The Wills cricket cards feature real photos.

Lot 157.  Rare Edward R. Bushnell Book Summarizing the 1912 ICAAAA Meet. The full title of this 1912 hardback is Official Souvenir Volume, Thirty-Seventh Field Meeting, Inter-Collegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America Held at Franklin Field, Philadelphia, PA., May 31 and June 1, 1912. Bushnell covers the event in 90 pages of text and photos, followed by 22 pages of ICAAAA by-laws and rules. Participants in the 1912 meeting included Penn, Cornell, Michigan, Harvard, Columbia, Syracuse, Dartmouth, Yale, Wesleyan, Brown, Princeton, Rutgers, Bowdoin and MIT. The gilt text on the cover remains strong; vg cover, ex pages.

Lot 158.  1984 Los Angeles Olympics Program. This 324-page “Souvenir Program” contains the schedule of events and photos and features focusing on successful Olympians. In six pages, Jack Newcombe makes the case for Jim Thorpe as the “Best Athlete Ever.” Vg-ex cover and nm interior.

Lot 159.  1984 Olympics in Los Angeles Large Banner. This 35” x 60” nm red, white, blue and black banner is from the XXIIIrd Olympiad in LA. It is accompanied by an nm ticket stub for a track and field event. Outstanding Olympics display item!

Lot 160.  Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner Autographs on an NCB Olympics T-Shirt. Large mint 9 signatures on an nm-m T-shirt with the original tags. One of the world’s most widely recognized gymnasts, Comaneci won three gold medals at the 1976 Summer Olympics, when she became the first Olympics gymnast to be awarded a perfect score of 10, and two more in 1980. Conner was the men’s world champion on the parallel bars in 1979, and he won the gold medal for the event at the 1984 Olympics. Conner and Comaneci were married in 1996.
