Lot 70.  1955 Pirates Yearbook with Clemente (Rookie), Other Yearbooks, Programs, Etc. This yearbook got it right when it wrote of Roberto Clemente: “The Pirates drafted him…and may have picked up a real prize. Only 20, he has everything but experience, and his success in the majors appears only a question of time.” Clemente shares page 20 of the 48-page yearbook with Preston Ward. G+ to vg, spine rubbed but not split, vg+ to ex pages with writing on one (not Clemente’s). The other yearbooks are from 1968 vg+ to ex, 1993 (2), one ex+ and one nm+, and 1994 (2), both nm-m. The programs represent 1974 vs. LA, neatly scored and vg+ to ex; 1975 vs. the Cubs, v+ and signed on the cover by Bill Mazeroski, Chuck Tanner and Steve Blass, and 1976, scorecard absent. Also, a 1976 Pirates media guide, vg, and three 1979 World Series media guides vs. the Orioles, two scored for at least one game, vg-ex. The 1955 yearbook turns up relatively infrequently. Lot 105.  Freddie Lindstrom Autograph on a Gold Plaque Hall of Fame Postcard. Bold signature in red, a 9-10 and one of the best autographs we’ve seen by Lindstrom on a plaque postcard. Authenticated by Kevin Keating. Linsdstrom make it to Cooperstown in 1976 as a third baseman after a 13-season, .311 career batting average with four N.L. teams, New York, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Brooklyn. He died in 1981. Proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit the Society for American Baseball Research.

Lot 132.  Johnny Majors Handwritten Letter Commenting on the 1976 Pitt Team. In 1976, Major coached Tony Dorsett and his University of Pittsburgh teammates to the college football’s national championship. In a 2005 letter on Pitt Department of Athletics stationery, Major writes, “The 1976 Pitt Panthers were one of the greatest teams in football history. It had no weaknesses.” His signature, which follows, is a 10. Everything is written boldly in black sharpie. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 71.  New York Yankees Programs and Yearbooks, 1956-97. Five of seven programs are for: 1956 vs. Boston, scored and vg-ex; 1960 vs. Dodgers, June 27 exhibition game, scored and ex; 1961 vs. Senators, scored, minor writing on cover, otherwise ex. 1961 vs. Orioles, vg-ex, and 1961 vs. Senators, vg. Four of these programs are signed on the cover by Joe Dugan, and one by George McQuinn. Dugan, who passed away in 1982, played third base for the Yankees in the 1920s. McQuinn died in 1978; he played first base for New York in 1947 and 1948. The two other programs are for 1973, four inside pages missing, and 1997 vs. the Mets, vg-ex. The earliest of the yearbooks, from 1966, has a section of the front cover missing; on the opposite side, a coupon was removed for ordering Jay Publishing photos. Otherwise, it has a vg+ appearance with writing on six inside pages, including an entry that has the Yanks winning the 1960 World Series. The three other yearbooks are nm-m, one from 1990 and two from 1992. Proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit the Society for American Baseball Research, a non-profit membership organization open to all that fosters the research, preservation, and dissemination of the history and record of baseball.

Whitey and Mickey (Ford and Mantle), Baseball is a Funny Game (Garagiola), Reggie (Jackson), The Artful Dodger (Lasorda), The Baseball Life of Willie Mays, Thurman Munson, Me & the Spitter (Perry), Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers, The Babe Ruth Story, The Perfect Game: Tom Seaver and the Mets, Baseball is my life (Seaver), Tom Seaver, Veeck – As in Wreck, My Turn at Bat (Ted Williams) and It Pays to Steal (Wills). Multiple players are profiled in At Bat! Aaron, Murcer, Bench, Jackson by Bill Gutman, 1973; Baseball’s Greatest Players by Tom Meany, 1955; and Baseball Stars of 1971 by Ray Robinson. The other books are: The Boys of Summer by Roger Kahn, 1973; Inside the Dodgers by Fresco Thompson, 1966; The Amazing Mets by Jerry Mitchell, 1970; No-Hitter by Phil Pepe, 1972; The Great American Baseball Trivia Book by Jeffrey Feinman, and The Vest-Pocket Encyclopedia of Baseball by Hy Turkin, 1956. These paperbacks average ex.

Lot 92.  Whitey Ford Autograph on an 8” x 10” Color Photo. Outstanding gem mint 10 signature of the Hall of Fame Yankees pitcher on a lithographed photo. Some scuffs along the edges of the photo, no more than ¼” in, could easily be matted out. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 97.  Casey Stengel Autograph on an Unlined Index Card. Large bold dark signature in which Stengel retraced the “s” in Casey and added “Hall of Famer” below the signature. Stengel was enshrined at Cooperstown in 1966 and passed away in 1975. Authenticated by Kevin Keating. Proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit the Society for American Baseball Research.

Lot 112.  Roger Peckinpaugh PSA/DNA-Authenticated Autograph. Peckinpaugh was the Yankees’ shortstop for nine seasons and helped to lead Washington to victory in the 1924 World Series. He died in 1977. Gem mint 10 autograph on an unlined index card. Authenticated also by Kevin Keating.
