Lot 162.  9 Sports Books Including the Inaugural Encyclopedia of Sports by Frank G. Menke. The Encyclopedia, which grew over the decades, was first issued in 1939 as a self-published volume by the author. Later, A. S. Barnes served as the publisher. This initial 320-page hardback covers sports from angling to yachting, and baseball, football and other sports between. Tight vg-ex copy with the owner’s name in pencil on the flyleaf; no dj as issued. Among the other books are Best Sports Stories of 1945, Irving T. Marsh and Edward Ehre, 1946, vg-ex book, vg dj, and a paperback, NY Times Official Sports Record Book 1967, Frank Litsky, 1967, ex. The following paperbacks average ex: Tom Harmon’s Book of Sports Information (1963), The Book of Sports Lists (1979) and #2 (1980), The Sports Nostalgia Quiz Book #3 (1979), Guinness Sports Record Book (1976) and Ripley’s Believe It or Not Sports Oddities (1969).

Lot 163.  Multi-Sport Grab Bag – Clemens Hat, Football and Track & Field Labels, NFL Mug. 1. 8 ¾” x 12” Sunkist label featuring runners in a stadium, ex-m. 2. 9” x 9” football Champ Brand label for Louisiana sweet potatoes and yams, ex-m; 1920s-30s style football artwork. 3. 1969 NFL 50th anniversary 6 ¼” tall plastic insulated mug. Has logos of the NFL and AFL teams. 4. Boston baseball cap with a Roger Clemens facsimile autograph, nm-m.

Lot 164.  Hockey, Football and Baseball Mini-Grab Bag. Hockey is represented by a complete vg to vg+ Monarch Official Hockey Puck box containing a vg-ex puck. The football entry is a 1951 Bowman card of #57 Jon Baker. The card has a number added to the back and otherwise is f-g. There are three Topps baseball cards from 1958, #223 vg-ex, 227 p, and 356 p, and four from 1959, #109 f, 244 (2) one g-vg and one f, and 251 Clete Boyer vg. One Topps card from 1957 and three each from 1958 and 1959 have writing on the back, typically a number or “TB.” The front of 1958T #238 Mazeroski grades vg-ex. The fronts of the others average g-vg.
