Lot 193. Collection of Famous Slugger Bat Banks, Mini Bats and Commemorative Baseballs. More than 100 individual items make up this collection, which includes three complete Louisville Slugger “Famous Slugger Autographs” Baseball Bat Banks. Each bank holds 10 plastic bats. In one bank, the bats represent 10 National League teams, ex-m. In the two other banks, the bats are player models for Mantle, Clemente, Bench, Fosse, Yaz, Oliva, F. Robinson, Aaron, Rose and Kessinger. One is nm with yellow bats, and the other, ex with a mix of white and natural bats. A fourth bank has bats for Carew, Parker, Madlock, R. Jackson, Garvey and Lynn; four bats are missing, ex. There are 32 commemorative or facsimile baseballs. Fotoball produced colorful baseballs commemorating or featuring Wheaties All-Stars (Mark McGwire, Ken Griffey Jr., Chuck Knoblauch), McGwire’s 1998 home run performance (Making History), Sammy Sosa’s 66 home runs (scuff on Sosa’s image as manufactured), Jose Canseco, the Royals, the Giants’ 40 years in San Francisco, the Indians (brief history on one panel), the Orioles (gold ball with raised logo) and 1998 All-Star Game hosted by the Rockies. Franklin produced a Dodgers ball (1995), a Bobby Bonds signature series ball and a Stamp Fun Stadium Baseball – Wrigley Field. Other subjects are the Marlins’ inaugural year (1993), the 1993 All-Star Game and FanFest in Baltimore and Nolan Ryan’s 5,000th strikeout (facsimile signature). Also, an ONL Coleman ball with the Dodgers’ logo, a Spinneybeck Cooperstown Collection Red Sox ball, a 1988 Sports Products Dodgers logo ball with “Brooklyn” written on, a 1996 Caring Team 5th Anniversary ball with facsimile signature of Barry Larkin and Cecil Fielder, a red ball with gold stitching and a Babe Ruth Shrine plastic base, three Official League balls, a heavily used ball with no pre-printed areas showing, a Nature Company ball with frogs, a heavily decorated ball for the Henry Ford Museum and facsimile-signed balls for the Braves (2 diff.), Reds and Yankees. Almost all of these 32 balls are nm or better. Fifteen mini bats 12”-18” long represent George Brett, the Louisville Slugger Museum (2); Cooperstown, the Baseball HoF or both (4 diff.), Carolina Tar Heels, Babe Ruth Birthplace (Baltimore), LA Dodgers (and Sports Illustrated), the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, “Put Ron Carmicle to Bat for ABC in 1983” (2), the 1996 All-Star Game (Phils, 14” peppermill bat) and an apparent fiesta. There are four 9” bats, one of each, red, white, blue and natural. Twenty-one baseball bat pens, six of them made of wood, promote Gallaudet U (3), the HoF, the Sporting News (2), Babe Ruth (2), TCMA, LA Dodgers (2), Chase Bank (4), Robin Yount, Johnny Bench, the St. Louis Sports HoF, Coca-Cola and Southwest Airlines. Nm. Finally, there are nine key chains for Hillerich & Bradsby (2), the LA Dodgers, Pete Rose (5) and Steve Garvey (2). They average nm. Fun collection with good break-up value. Proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit the Society for American Baseball Research.
