Lot 89.  Initial Issue of Baseball Cards, 5 Other Hobby Publications. The premier issue of Krause Publications’ Baseball Cards is dated Spring 1981 and grades ex. It is accompanied by the June 1987 issue, which has Mike Schmidt on the cover, vg+ to ex. Also, four “The Official” guides from The House of Collectibles: Pete Rose 1983 Price Guide to Baseball Cards (nm), O. J. Simpson 1983 Price Guide to Football Cards (vg), 1984 Price Guide to Sports Collectibles (ex) and 1985 Price Guide to Sports Collectibles (ex+).

Lot 90.  Baseball Hobby Books, Big-Time Baseball and Related Publications. Almost all of these books are softcovers. The key reference in this collection is Elten F. Schiller’s 1982 Baseball…Stamps…Autographs. In 188 pages, Schiller describes and displays a large percentage of the baseball first day covers and cachets produced at the time of publication. He also covers stamps and presents a large number of signed cachets. Scarce ex book. Another scarce publication is a booklet from the 1974 Mid Atlantic Sports Collectors Association. Other references include three editions (1976 f hardback, 1977 vg+ to ex and 1982 vg) of the Complete Book of Baseball Cards by Steve Clark, two editions (1988 and 1994, both vg-ex) of the Sport Americana Baseball Address List by R. J. “Jack” Smalling, the 1992 SCD Baseball Card Price Guide by Jeff Kurowski, nm, and The Great American Baseball Card Flipping, Trading and Bubble Gum Book by Brendan C. Boyd and Fred C. Harris, two copies, a vg+ to ex 1975 paperback and a 1973 stated first edition hardcover, nm book and vg+ to ex dust jacket with a ½” cover tear and a tiny edge tear. There are four editions of Big Time Baseball, 1950 by Harold Hart (f), 1958 (vg) and 1961 (vg-ex) by AP sportswriter Ben Olan, and 1978 (price sticker; otherwise ex) by New York Post sportswriter Maury Allen. Two related books are offered, 1952 Inside the Majors by AP baseball editor Joe Reichler, g-vg, and 1962 Famous Baseball Plays and Players by Thomas Werth, f, minor water damage. Also: 1955 Gold Stamp Books Brooklyn Dodgers album, no stamps, vg+ album with writing on the cover. One album each for 1984 Fleer and Topps stickers, vg-ex. Red Foley’s 1989 book with stickers, ex, stickers unused, four damaged. And the 1992 Baseball Cards, 120 of the Hottest Players, ex. Proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit the Society for American Baseball Research.
