Lot 136.  Rare, Huge Green Bay Packers Calendars for 1949, 1953, 1956, 1957 and 1962. . Incredible display items for a game room or sports bar, these calendars are about 25” x 42-44 ½”. The consist of advertising for Green Bay area businesses, a space for a monthly calendar page and a photo 13 ½” x 17” representing the Packers. The 1949 calendar has a sepia photo of the Packers’ “All Time, All Star Football Team”: Hinkle, Herber, Blood (McNally), Lewelyn, Dilweg, Hubbard, Michalski, Brock, Goldenberg, Buck and Hutson. The calendar for 1953 has photo of the 1952 team and the All Time All Stars. For 1956, the calendar provides a 1955 team photo and individual photos of the first eight draft choices for 1956: Losch, Gregg, Morris, Skoronski, Burris, Gremminger, Dennis and Duvall. Draft choices and newcomers populate the photo for 1957: Hornung (bonus choice), Ron Kramer (1st round), Truax (3rd), Vereen (4th), Nisby (6th), Gilliam (7th), Belotti (8th) and newcomer veterans Massey and Palumbo. For 1962, “Title Town U.S.A. Presents” the “Green Bay Packers World Champs 1961.” All of the calendars are clean and display extremely well. All have some creases; although the 1949 and 1953 examples have some heavier creases toward the top, they retain excellent eye appeal. The 1962 calendar has a number of fold lines. Fantastic Green Bay collection with substantial break-up value!

Lot 137.  Magnificent 19th Century Football Photo – Union Suits, Stocking Caps, Melon Ball. This 10 ¾” x 14 ¼” apparent albumen photo of the St. Mary’s, PA, high school football team is one of the two finest 19th century football photos that we have seen. Technically, the photo is outstanding; the focus and contrast could hardly be better. The condition appears to be nm-m. And the content is superb – 16 players, five wearing union suit laced-up vests, six wearing stocking caps and one holding a melon-shaped football. The mount, which has a gilt inside edge, shows some stains that add to the overall character of the display, which is framed to 17 ½” x 21 ½”. This photo will be an attention-grabber in any room.

Lot 138.  Photo Premium of the 1926 Notre Dame Team Including Knute Rockne. The 1926 team went 9-1, losing to Carnegie Tech in a monumental upset. Going into the game, the Fighting Irish had rolled to eight victories while outscoring opponents, 197-7. The 8” x 16 ½” sepia premium is from Sam’l Spiro & Company Clothiers. Spiro was a long-time South Bend merchant. Rockne is in the back row, third from the right. The team included All-America Bud Boeringer, and John Smith, an All-America the following year. The premium was rolled and has various creases, a couple of edge tears and tape in the upper right corner. The image area displays as a nice vg.

Lot 139.  Circa 1940s Philip Morris Cigarettes Point-of-Purchase Football Display. This colorful 21” x 28” in-store ad has Johnny Roventini, the Philip Morris bellhop, signaling a touchdown as a player crosses the goal line with a pack of the company’s cigarettes. The cardboard display has an unused easel on the back and water damage that is not evident on the front. From the front, the display is bowed, primarily to Roventini’s left, and there are creases there and in the upper left corner and in the lower left, a couple of small scuffs and some tiny surface imperfections. Bright and bold football scene!

Lot 140.  Rare 1951 Ink Blotter Featuring “The 25 Year All America Football Team.” The All America Board of Football, headed by Christy Walsh, selected the team from players active 1925-50. The players are Bennie Oosterbaan of Michigan, Biggie Munn of Minnesota, Jay Berwanger, the first Heisman winner, of Chicago, Ernie Nevers of Stanford, Bruiser Kinard of Mississippi, Red Grange of Illinois, Doc Blanchard of Army, Johnny Lujack of Notre Dame, Don Hutson of Alabama, Bob Suffridge of Tennessee, Ed Widseth of Minnesota and Chuck Bednarik of Penn. The 3 7/8” x 9” blotter is unused and uncreased except for a tiny corner crease. It shows some foxing, almost completely away from the players. Printed by Brown & Bigelow, the blotter promotes ReDisCo’s Service, an appliance financing company that served retailers.

Lot 141.  Original Large Poster for the 1953 Movie Crazylegs Starring HoFer Elroy Hirsch. An All-American football star at Wisconsin, Hirsch plays himself in the biographical film. It follows him from high school through Wisconsin and military service to the Los Angeles, where he had a Hall of Fame career as a halfback and end for the Rams. The 14” x 36” movie poster pictures Hirsch and Rams teammates Tom Fears, Dick Daugherty, Leon McLaughlin, Don Paul and Larry Brink, as well as co-stars Joan Vohs and Lloyd Nolan. The poster displays well with three horizontal folds, two pin holes, a small hole and tear in the upper right, a number of creases and some edge tears. Colorful and attractive piece of football and movie memorabilia.
