Almost universally, they have super-sharp corners. Centering is the main determinant of the grade. Includes #40 McLain nm, 67 Checklist nm, 72 John nm-m, 87 D. Lot 90.  207 Pack-Fresh 1969 Topps Baseball Cards Including Stars. These cards were taken from vending boxes and carefully stored. With a couple of exceptions, all are ex or better. Centering primarily affects the grade. From the key cards, the Aparicio was selected at random for professional grading to demonstrate the overall quality of this collection. It received a grade of 98 GEM 10 from SGC. It is offered elsewhere with the Graded Baseball Cards. We can’t guarantee that there are others 10s here, but the group is very strong. Key cards are #1 ex+; 3 nm-m, 4 nm-m, 8 vg-ex, 10 ex+ and 12 mint (all six are League Leader cards), 57 Checklist ex-m+, 99 Nettles rookie (with black loop) ex-m, 107 Checklist ex-m, 169 World Series ex-m+, 295 Perez nm-m, 349 D. Lot 91.  222 Different High-Quality 1970 Topps Baseball Cards. Primarily commons removed from vending boxes and well preserved for almost four decades, these cards are predominantly nm and better with strong corners and centering that varies. In fact, one card pulled at random from the higher-value group - #399 New York Yankees team – came back from SGC graded 88 NM-MT 8. There are some other star, rookie and other premium cards, including #62-65, 67-69 and 71, all League Leaders, 90 McCarver nm+, 128 Checklist nm+, 160 Niekro nm, 180 John nm+, 181 Anderson vg-ex, 195 World Series – Seaver Wins ex-m, 202 Orioles Celebrate ex+, 244 Checklist ex-m+, 286 Buckner rookie nm+, 343 Checklist ex-m, 346 Schoendienst vg-ex, 380 Perez vg and 440 Mazeroski nm-m. The other cards grade Nm-m: 34 cards. Nm+: 21. Nm: 18. Ex-m+: 28. Ex-m: 31. Ex+: 25. Ex: 27. Vg-ex: 20. Vg: 3. G-vg: 1. Twenty-six of these cards carry numbers ranging from 1-100, 64 from 101-200, 28 from 201-300, 62 from 301-400, five from 501-546 and three from 547-551.

Lot 92.  Rare, Uncataloged 1972 Post-Gazette Pittsburgh “Pirates ’72 Album” Near Set of 26. A similar 1973 set from the newspaper is cataloged. Stars of the 1972 issue are #5 Clemente, 8 Ellis, 16 Mazeroski, 19 Oliver, 23 Sanguillen, 25 Stargell, 26 Veale and 28 Virdon. Missing are #2, possibly Dale Berra, and 12, possibly Grant Jackson. These “cards,” as issued, vary in size from about 5 ¼” x 8 ¾” to 5 ¼” x 9 ¾”. Each has a player photo portrait, biographical information and 1972 and career statistics. The near set is ex-m to nm. Except for #23 Sanguillen, all of the cards have the thick black border all the way around. The border is missing from the bottom and right side of Sanguillen. There is a very small chip in the bottom border of the Bob Johnson card. Very nice example of a rare Pirates newspaper issue!

Lot 93.  Rare Uncataloged 1977 Post-Gazette Pittsburgh “Pirates Portraits” Set of 31. Using the same sketches by several artists, the Pittsburgh newspaper issued in book form a set of 30 cards, each 8 ½” x 11”. This set consists of 31 “cards,” each about 4 ½” x 9 ½” and clipped from the newspaper. Below each portrait are career and statistical information. The checklist is the same as for the book issue, except that Jerry Hairston has been added, increasing the newpaper set to 31. Hairston was sold to the Pirates in June, and the set appeared in the newspaper in June. There also are some number variations between the book and newspaper issues. Key players in the set are Stargell, Gossage, Oliver and Parker. This set has been neatly clipped from the newspapers. All have a black border all the way around, and in most cases, the full thickness of the border is present. Nm. The probability of finding a nicer set is not high.

Lot 94.  1980-87 Perez-Steele Hall of Fame Postcards, 1985 Greatest Moments. The postcards, all assigned #8041, are complete through the Ninth Series, which was issued in 1987. The collection consists of 210 cards, including checklists and special unnumbered cards. Baseball’s biggest stars are here – Ruth, Wagner, Cobb, Gehrig, Johnson, Robinson, Aaron, Mays, etc. The cards are nm-m to mint in their original boxes. The Greatest Moments First Series is complete at 12 cards, including Ruth, Kaline, Robinson, Gehrig, Ford, Mathewson, Campanella, Johnson, Aaron, Young, Musial and Cobb. Nm-m in the original box. The Great Moments cards alone list at more than our

Lot 95.  Topps Traded Sets – 10 1981, 1 1982 (Ripken Extra Rookie) and 10 1983. The key to this collection is the 1982 set, which is complete without the original box. SGC has graded the Cal Ripken Rookie, #98, SGC 96 MINT 9. The 1981 and 1983 sets are in their original boxes. Nine of the 1981 boxes remain sealed; in the box without the seal, the cards appear to be unhandled. Seven of the 1983 boxes are sealed. The cards in the three other boxes have been handled, and the Strawberry rookie, the key card, in the set, is present. This lot has excellent potential break-up value.

Lot 96.  3 1982 Topps Traded Sets, Ripken’s Extra Rookie, in the Original Boxes. One box remains sealed, and cards in the two other boxes appear to be untouched by collector or investor hands. The up side of these sets is tremendous, with gem mint Ripken rookies listing for more than $900 each, and mint rookies, for more than $150 each.

Lot 99.  10 Donruss Baseball Sets Including 9 Factory Sets, 1981-90. The cards in the sets for 1983-90 are still wrapped in the original Cellophane. The 1981 set is hand-collated and averages nm. The 1982 set is opened, uncollated and missing the Babe Ruth puzzle. Key cards are #168 Rose ex-m (diamond centering), 405 Ripken rookie nm+ and 419 Ryan nm-m+. The set averages nm to nm-m. Key cards in the unopened factory sets are the Sandberg, Boggs and Gwynn rookies in 1983, the Mattingly rookie in 1984 and the Clemens rookie in 1985.
