Lot 242.  Rare 1906 Chicago Cubs “Rooter” Stick Pin. Delightful pin with a silk 1” x 2 ½” banner attached to a 3 ½” wood bat. The banner shows some fraying and wear. All printing is strong. A “must” for a Cubs pin collection!

Lot 243.  19 Baseball Pins, Most Celebrating 1940s-50s A.L. or N.L. Championships. Seven are 1 ¾” pins in the format of a baseball, typically with the city at the top above the stitches, the team nickname between the stitches and “American League Champions” or “National League Champions” below the bottom stitches. Six of the pins represent the Boston Braves nm-m, Brooklyn Dodgers p-f (heavily stained), Cleveland Indians ex, New York Giants nm+, Philadelphia Phillies ex and Philadelphia Whiz Kids, ex-m with small bump. The seventh pin has “Baseball” above the stitches, “All Stars” in the middle and “Champions” below, vg-ex. A 1 ¼” pin in blue on white says “Home of” at the top, “Baseball” in the center and “Cooperstown, N.Y.” at the bottom, nm with a faded ribbon attached. A 1 ¾” pin with the Indian mascot, red on white, marks Cleveland’s 1948 A.L. pennant, ex. Three 1 ¼” pins commemorate Dodgers, Giants and Phillies N.L. titles. All have the team nickname in the center against a white background with “National League” on top and “Champions” below. They average vg-ex. Four similar non-champion pins represent the Chicago White Sox (2, one ex and one nm), St. Louis Browns, ex, and Athletics, g-vg. All but one of the White Sox pins have ribbons attached, and a ball and glove hang from the Athletics pin. Two pins are from Detroit. A 1 ¼” black on orange pin depicts a tiger surrounded by “Souvenir of Detroit Tigers,” nm with ribbons, a ball and a glove attached. A ½” pin in brown and red on white says simply “Detroit Tigers,” ex. Finally, there is a crossed bats 1 ¼” pin for the New York Giants, vg because of foxing. A number of the pins have rust on the back, which was not considered in the grading. Proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit the Society for American Baseball Research, a non-profit membership organization open to all that fosters the research, preservation, and dissemination of the history and record of baseball.

Lot 244.  14 Different Crossed Bat Baseball Team Pins. Eleven are 1 ¼” in diameter, while the other three have a diameter of 1 ¾”. Almost all have rust on the back. They are printed in blue on white with white borders unless otherwise noted. The larger pins represent the: Brooklyn Dodgers, solid blue border with red, white and blue ribbons and ball and glove attached. Vg-ex pin that has some small indentations and an ex appearance. Chicago White Sox, minimal back rust, ex. And Kansas City Athletics, red on white, blue rim, no rust, nm. The smaller pins: Boston Red Sox, red on gray, vg+, looks better, ribbons and ball and glove attached, some fraying to ribbon. Brooklyn Dodgers (3 pins), two with blue borders, one ex-m and the other vg with foxing and a ribbon that says “We did it again 1956.” And one red on white with a red border, vg+ to ex. Cincinnati Red Stockings, red on white, ex-m, red and white ribbons and bat and ball hanging. Kansas City Monarchs, vg+ to ex, two small, very light foxing spots. New York Giants, blue rim, ex, centered slightly to the right. New York Yankees, f-g, ribbons and plastic ball and glove attached. Philadelphia Athletics, ex, ribbons and ball and glove attached. Pittsburgh Pirates, ex with ribbons, ball and glove. Washington Nationals, minimal back rust, ex. Proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit the Society for American Baseball Research, a non-profit membership organization open to all that fosters the research, preservation, and dissemination of the history and record of baseball.
