Lot 106. 1910 T206 Piedmont Iron Man McGinnity 40 VG 3 by SGC. McGinnity posted a 246-142 record with a 2.66 ERA in the majors and then won at least 200 more games after being retired to the minors. At the age of 54, he pitched 268 innings and won 15 games in a Class D league. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1946. The card shows corner wear, has a tiny crease in the lower left corner, a very small, light stain in the upper left and has a clean back.
Winning Bid $83.
Lot 109. 1911 T205 Polar Bear Walter Johnson Graded by SGC. In many respects, the card has a better appearance than the one suggested by the SGC grade of 10 POOR 1. The colors are strong, and the card is decently centered. The image of Johnson is bold. The front has a relatively heavy horizontal crease, several lighter creases and a small area of paper loss in the lower right. The back shows a heavy crease and light tobacco stains. If a “poor” T205 Johnson is what your budget can handle, this example will be a very acceptable addition to your collection.
Winning Bid $180.
Lot 113. 3 PSA-Graded 1933 Goudey Cards Including 2 HoF Players. The cards are #20 Bill Terry VG 3, 49 Frank Frisch PR 1 and 150 Ray Kolp EX 5 (MK). The Kolp card has the impression of an “x” that was written in the upper right corner on the back.
Minimum Bid $75.
Lot 114. 7 1934-36 Diamond Stars Hall of Famers – 5 Graded by SGC, 1 by PSA. The cards evaluated by SGC are all graded VG 3: #1 Grove, 17 Frisch, 74 Lazzeri, 83 Paul Waner and 95 Appling. These cards are generally well centered and free of significant creases. PSA graded #9 Cochrane as VG-EX+ 4.5. The remaining card, #14 Terry, is vg+ to ex; it is free of creases and has light, somewhat uneven toning on the back. Nice for the grade.
Winning Bid $472.
Lot 116. 7 PSA-Graded 1940 Play Balls – All Ex or Better, 6 HoFers, 4 High Numbers. Quality group with one card graded EX-MT+ 6.5, #158 Travis Jackson. One is EX-MT 6, #227 Jesse Haines, and one is EX+ 5.5, #237 Wee Willie Keeler. The four others are EX 5: #119 Grover Cleveland Alexander, 177 Home Run Baker, 228 Charley Grimm and 230 Red Faber.
Winning Bid $294.
Lot 119. 3 1952 Topps High Numbers PSA-Graded PR 1, VG 3 and VG-EX 4. Card #364 of Sukeforth received the PR designation, which seems overly harsh; “fair” seems far fairer, and f-g doesn’t seem unreasonable. The two other cards are #375 Merson graded VG 3 and 402 Harrist graded VG-EX 4.
Winning Bid $366.
Lot 120. 3 High-Grade 1954 Bowman Cards – Snider, Berra and Reese. GAI graded the Duke Snider card, #170, EX-MT 6. The card is well centered with strong colors. The “raw” cards of Pee Wee Reese, #58, and Yogi Berra, #161, are impressive. The Reese card is nm-m with strong corners, bold colors and 60:40 centering left-to-right. The Berra card is nm+ with strong corners and colors, 60:40 centering top-to-bottom and a very slight rough cut on the left and right borders.
Winning Bid $332.
