Lot 259.  Autographs of 6 Hall of Fame Boston Celtics Including Bill Russell. Playing for the Celtics from 1958-59 through 1963-64, Tom Heinsohn, K. C. Jones, Sam Jones, Frank Ramsey, Bill Russell and Bill Sharman captured six consecutive NBA titles. All are in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Their signatures are mint 9s and gem mint 10s on unlined index cards or paper the size of index cards. Actually, there are two Heinsohn signatures, one on a lined index card and one on paper. In both cases, the autograph collector wrote Heinsohn’s name in the upper left corner near the signature. The Sharman autograph is personalized. There also is an autograph of Jo Jo White, who first played for the Celtics in 1960. A total of eight autographs. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $75.

Lot 260.  1958 Detroit Pistons Signed Program with HoFers, 2 Very Tough Autographs. Twelve signatures are in this 16-page program, eight in the center-spread and four elsewhere, including four Hall of Fame members: Dick McGuire, George Yardley (d. 2004), Harry Gallatin and Vern Mikkelsen. The first three are Pistons, and Mikkelsen is a Minneapolis Laker. Just as interesting as their signatures are those of Jim Krebs (Lakers) and Phil Jordon (Pistons). In May of 1965, Krebs died at age 29 in a freak tree-cutting accident. One month and one day later, Jordan died at age 31. Both men had seven-season NBA careers. Their signatures are together in the upper left corner of the program. Other signatures in the center spread, all Lakers, are by Ed Fleming, one of the early African-American players in the NBA, Corky Devlin (d. 1995) and Rod Hundley. Another page has three Pistons autographs, Chuck Noble, Tom Marshall and Joe Holup. Mikkelsen is on a separate page. All of the autographs are in pencil. McGuire’s and Devlin’s are nm 7 and the others, nm-m 8, with the Fleming, Hundley, Holup, Mikkelsen and Devlin autographs partly on top of text or advertising photos. The Gallatin, McGuire, Yardley and Noble signatures could be used as separate cuts. The Jordan and Krebs signatures appear to be inseparable. These signatures are rarely found, and when they are, they command a premium price. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $66.
