Non-Sport Graded Cards   6 Lots

Lot 342.  1904 Ogden’s Cigarettes “Fowls, Pigeons & Dogs” Set of 50 Graded by PSA. This set invites thoughts of things “going to the dogs” or being “for the birds,” or maybe pigeons “coming home to roost.” But for the sake of sophistication, we’ll avoid all that. This set comprises 23 cards depicting dogs, 15 with chickens or ducks, and 12 with pigeons that don’t look much like the variety that hang out in Pittsburgh’s Market Square or on the roof of the farmhouse down the road. The cards have color fronts and informational backs. The grades for the set follow. PSA NM 7: 1 card. EX-MT 6: 5 cards. EX+ 5.5: 3 cards. EX 5: 4 cards. VG-EX 4: 14 cards. VG 3: 14 cards. GOOD + 2.5: 4 cards. GOOD 2:5 cards. By animal, the grades fall this way. DOGS: 3 cards EX-MT 6, 3 EX+ 5.5, 1 EX 5, 4 VG-EX 4, 9 VG 3, 1 GOOD+ 2.5 and 3 GOOD 2. FOWL: 1 card NM 7, 1 EX-MT 6, 2 EX 5, 6 VG-EX 4, 1 VG 3, 2 GOOD + 2.5 and 2 GOOD 2. PIGEONS: 1 EX-MT 6, 1 EX 5, 4 VG-EX 4, 5 VG 3 and 1 GOOD+ 2.5.
Winning Bid $75.

In any case, the cards have color images of the cars on the front and descriptive backs. NM 7: 5 cards. EX-MT+ 6.5: 4 cards. EX-MT 6: 19 cards. EX-MT 6 (MC): 1 card. EX-MT 6 (MK): 1 card. Winning Bid $77.

Lot 344.  PSA-Graded 1924 Wills “Old Furniture 2nd Series” Set of 25 Cards. PSA judged all of these cards but one to be at least EX 5. This set serves as something of a mini-catalog of 16th though 18th century furniture. The fronts of the large-size cards, about 2 ½” x 3 1/8”, are in color. The furniture is described on the back. The grades follow. NM 7: 3 cards. EX-MT+ 6.5: 1 card. EX-MT 6: 7 cards. EX 5: 14 cards. VG-EX 4: 1 card.
Winning Bid $50.

The cards are about the size of 1953-55 Bowman issues. The fronts feature colorful artwork, and the backs, which are gray, have descriptive text. Topics include Cabot’s discovery of North America, Stanley’s meeting with Livingstone, Soviet efforts to explore the moon, the conquest of Mount Everest, the Vikings, Peary and Henson’s mission to the North Pole, exploration of Antarctica, Lindbergh’s flight, Darwin, Einstein and many others.
