 Lot 152. Excellent Framed Print Depicting the 1898 Women’s Amateur Golf Championship. The U.S. Women’s Amateur, first played in 1895, is the oldest and most prestigious event in women’s golf. In 1898, Beatrix Hoyt won the championship for the third straight time, defeating Maude Wetmore of Newport, R.I., 5-3. Sixty-one players entered the tournament, which was played October 11-14 at the Ardsley Club at Ardsley-on-Hudson, N.Y. In the qualifying rounds, Hoyt was the only player to break 100. She represented the Shinnecock Hills Club of Long Island, which was oneof few clubs that encouraged women to play golf. After losing in the semi-final round of the 1900 tournament, she stopped playing competitive golf. This 16” x 25” print by Ted Chaiko captures the competition at the 18th hole. There are some waves in the print, which is free of creases. The lithograph is double-matted and framed to 28 ½” x 33 ¼”. It will make a dramatic addition to a golfer’s game room or to a country club.

 Lot 154. 4 1926 Lambert & Butler Golfers Including Bobby Jones. These are four of the five golfers in the “Who’s Who in Sports” set, including the most desirable card, R. T. Jones.  Lot 155. 23 1920s-30s Golf Cards Including Wethered, Barnes, Little and “The Nose Game.” Joyce Wethered is generally regarded as the greatest British woman golfer. James Barnes won the U.S. Open in 1921 and the British Open in 1925. These cards are from seven different sets. The Nose Game cards are especially scarce.  Lot 231. 1979 Michigan Sports HoF Program Signed by Orlick, Morrall, Newhouser, Etc. In 1979, Warren Orlick and Earl Morrall were inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame. Both signed the cover of the program, and their signatures grade 9-10. Known as “Mr. Rules,” Orlick was president of the Professional Golfers Association 1971-72. He passed away in 2003. An All-American at Michigan State in 1955, Morrall had a pro football career that spanned 21 seasons. Other football players who signed the program, primarily by their photos, are Joe Schmidt, Ron Kramer and Vince Banonis. Mrs. Ace Gutowksy also signed; her late husband, the Detroit Lions fullback, also was a 1979 HoF inductee. Another golfer in the HoF, Chuck Kocsis, also signed. Baseball is represented by autographs of Chas Gehringer, Hal Newhouser and Joe Garagiola. Basketball contributors who signed are Jake Mazer, Bob Calihan, Cincy Sachs and Lofton Greene.
