Baseball Autographs   24 Lots    «

Lot 304.  Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays and Duke Snider Signed 8” x 10” Photo. The color photo shows the four Hall of Fame center fielders walking from the outfield toward home plate at Shea Stadium. Each player has signed next to his image. The signatures are gem mint 10s. Letter of Authenticity from James Spence, and authenticated also by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $291.

Lot 305.  Photos Signed by 9 Deceased HoFers – Ashburn, Barlick, Mize, Sewell, Etc. All of the signatures are bold, gem mint 10s. They are on color 8” x 10” photos unless otherwise noted: Rich Ashburn, Al Barlick (sepia photo), Lou Boudreau, Billy Herman (sepia), Johnny Mize, Joe Sewell (sepia), Enos Slaughter, Willie Stargell (small crease in the field) and Hoyt Wilhelm. The autographs come with a copy of a PSA-DNA Letter of Authenticity indicating they were once part of a larger lot sold in another auction. We had the signature authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $72.

Lot 306.  Authenticated Signatures of Deceased Superstars – Cash, Drysdale, Mathews. PSA-DNA authenticated all three signatures, and so did Kevin Keating. A Letter of Authenticity accompanies the Norm Cash autograph, which is on an 8” x 10” b&w promotional photo from Dino’s Pizza. The ballpoint signature is a bold mint 9 to gem mint 10. Cash’s autograph is comparatively tough to find. He died in 1986 at the age of 51 after a 17-season career, including 15 with the Detroit Tigers. He was a four-time All-Star who played in the World Series twice, with the White Sox in 1959 and the Tigers in 1968. Don Drysdale signed a 1965 team-issued postcard. His signature is large and strong, a nm-m 8. PSA-DNA encapsulated the card. The Eddie Mathews signature is on a 1947-66 Exhibit encapsulated by PSA. The signature is a 10. Mathews is a member of the 500 home run club. The going rate for Cash and Drysdale autographs is generally $150 each. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $100.

Lot 307.  Don Drysdale Signed 1985 Perez-Steele Postcard Authenticated by PSA-DNA. Bold 10 signature on a card encapsulated by PSA-DNA. Drysdale had a Hall of Fame 14-season career with the Dodgers in Brooklyn and Los Angeles. He passed away in 1993. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $70.

Lot 308.  Signed Contract: Jurges, Ruel and Culler - Facsimile Signed Baseball Producer. This contract represents an interesting piece of baseball history. First, it is signed by three major leaguers: Richard B. Culler, infielder for the A’s, White Sox, Braves, Cubs and Giants, 1936 and 1943-49, died 1964. William F. Jurges, shortstop for the Cubs or Giants, 1931-47, died 1997. And H. D. (Muddy) Ruel, 18-season major league catcher, died 1963. Second, from a collector standpoint, it was Culler who, in 1948, established the Autographed Ball Company. He had developed a way to stamp facsimile signatures on baseballs, which were mass produced and sold at concession stands in major league ballparks. The company was still in business in 2004. In the 8 ½” x 7 ½” contract, Culler agrees to pay Jurges one cent for each team facsimile ball sold with Jurges’ name on it. The contract is dated 1948. The signatures are mint 9s and gem mint 10s. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $30.

Lot 309.  230 Autographed Baseball Cards – Boudreau, Pettitte, Ramirez, Thome, Etc. This collection consists of signed cards ranging from 1966 to the mid-1990s. Most are from the 1990s, and many are prospect or pre-rookie minor league cards. More than half, about 55%, are signed by players who had a turn in the majors. The signatures are overwhelmingly mint 9s and gem mint 10s; nothing is less than a nm 7. Highlights include: Hall of Famer Lou Boudreau on 1990 Pacific Baseball Legends #9. Trot Nixon, 1994 Action Packed Franchise Gem #65. Andy Pettitte, 1993-94 Fleer Excel #111. Manny Ramirez, 1992 Upper Deck #146. Jim Thome, 1992 Classic Best #195, strong early signature on the back of the card. Dave Justice, 1990 CMC Richmond Braves #285. Topps: 1966 #152 Frank Malzone. 1968 #79 Ted Kubiak. 1970 #200 Boog Powell. 1979 #250 Willie Randolph, 459 Sid Monge. 1981 #148 Randy Niemann. Donruss: 1982D #373 Joe Lefebvre, 620 Sid Monge. 1987D #298 Darrell Evans. Fleer: 1981F #77 Randy Niemann. 1987F #18 Randy Niemann, 64 Jim Pankovits. Other familiar names include Mike Lieberthal, Matt Stairs, Frank Rodriguez, Sterling Hitchock, Edgardo Alfonzo, Shane Andrews, Cliff Floyd, Rondell White, Bill Pulsipher, Peter Hoy and Greg Blosser. Some autographs are duplicated, but no cards are. Other issues represented are 1989 Star, 1990 ProCards, 1990 and 1991 Score, 1990 CMC International League, 1991 and 1993 Bowman, 1991-94 Classic Best Gold and Draft Picks, 1991 and 1992 Stadium Club, 1991 and 1992 Topps, 1991-94 Upper Deck, 1992 Donruss Rookies, 1992 Fleer, 1992-93 and 1993-94 Fleer Excel, 1992 Fort Lauderdale Yankees, 1992 Leaf, 1992 and 1992 Skybox Pre-Rookie, 1994 Signature Rookies and 1995 Authentic Signature Old Judge. The cards average ex- to nm. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $225.

Lot 331.  J. C. Romero Autographed Minnesota Twins Jersey. Romero was the winning pitcher as the Philadelphia Phillies won Game 5 of the 2008 World Series and garnered their first world championship in 25 years. He also won Game 3. Romero pitched in Minnesota 2001-05, Los Angeles 2006 and Boston 2007 before landing in Philadelphia for most of the 2007 season. His pitching improved signficantly with the Phils, and he has become a fan favorite. His signature is in silver on the second “3” of “33” on the back of the Russell Athletic Authentic Collection size 48 jersey. The signature is nm 7 to nm-m 8. A 2003 Letter of Authenticity from Clubhouse Collectibles of Cincinnati describes the jersey as game used. Autograph authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $68.

Lot 388.  Bob Hope Autographed Baseball, 1979 Esco Entertainment Products 1979 Statue. Hope’ signature on a baseball makes more sense than many other celebrity-signed baseballs: He once was a part-owner of the Cleveland Indians, and he served as a trustee of the Little League Foundation from 1971 until 1992. His signature is a 10 on an OAL Bobby Brown baseball that grades ex-m because of some areas of discoloration. Hope passed away in 2003. The statue of the popular comedian and actor stands 17” tall, including the base, and weighs about nine pounds. These statues feature heads that are disproportionately large. Ex-m with some minor chips. Autograph authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Minimum Bid $125.
