Lot 697.  George C. Wallace Autograph on the Oct. 18, 1968 Cover of Time. Wallace and Gen. Curtis LeMay are featured in a satirical likeness on this cover, which most likely commemorates their Presidential run on the American Independent Party ticket that year. Four-time Governor of Alabama, Wallace is primarily remembered as an anti-Civil Rights leader and in fact, hoped that through his Presidential bid that the Southern states could use their clout to end federal attempts at desegregation. The signature is a strong 7 that shows against a dark background. The cover has mailing folds, a label and staple holes. Wallace passed away in 1998. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 698.  Time Covers Signed by Alex Haley, Carl Stokes, Whitney Young, the Davis Family. Alex Haley (d. 1992) signed the Feb. 14, 1977 cover from the height of Roots’ popularity. His signature is a 10. 2. Carl B. Stokes (d. 1996) signed the Nov. 17, 1967 issue, dated one week after he was elected the mayor of Cleveland, and the first African-American mayor of a major U.S. city. Ex-m 6 to nm 7 signature. 3. Aug. 11, 1967 cover signed “Best Wishes, Whitney Young,” of the National Urban League. His signature is a beautiful 10. 4. June 17, 1974 cover announcing the arrival of “Middle Class Blacks,” signed by all four members of the Davis family. For anyone trying to collect signed covers for all of 1974, this one is rare. The signatures average ex 5 to ex-m 6. Magazine covers only, folded for mailing, showing various imperfections not affecting the signatures. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 699.  Bold Flip Wilson Signature, with “Honey” Added, on the Jan. 31, 1972 Time Cover. This cover is from midway through the four-year run of the Flip Wilson show on NBC. The signature is a large, bold nm-m 8 to mint 9. Wilson passed away in 1998. He was the first African-American host of a top tv variety show. Cover only, folded for mailing, mailing label present, one stain in the margin. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 700.  Signature of Noted Anthropologist Richard Leakey on the Nov. 7, 1977 Time Cover. The widely known author of Origins, One Life, and Origins of Humankind, Leakey is also a well-regarded paleontologist, wildlife conservationist and Kenyan politician. Signature is a mint 9 on a terrific Nov. 7, 1977 cover. Magazine cover only, folded for mailing, label removed, some edge chipping. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 701.  5 Time Covers Signed by Icons of Manners and Fashion. John Fairchild, publisher of Women’s Wear Daily from 1960-96, signed the Sept. 14, 1970 Time cover reporting on the “Midi (skirt) Mania.” The signature has low contrast and grades a good 2, but is extremely scarce. The cover has a 2” tear. 2. Michel Bergerac, who revamped Revlon’s marketing, Dec. 11, 1978 cover. Signed “M Bergerac,” nm-m 8 to mint 9. 3. Apr. 5, 1982, Giorgio Armani. 4. Rudi Gernreich, Dec. 1, 1967 cover showing two models in mini-skirts and boots posed with the designer, a 10. 5. Letitia Baldridge, etiquette maven, Nov. 27, 1978 cover, personalized 7-8 autograph. Lot 702.  Roger Brown Signed Time Covers with His Art Depicting New York, Los Angeles. A pair of Time covers showcasing Brown’s artwork: Sept. 17, 1990 depicting New York and April 19, 1993, Los Angeles. Brown (d. 1997) was a member of the Chicago Imagists. He signed both covers; the NY signature is a mint 9, and the LA, a 7-8. Magazine covers only with mailing folds. The New York cover has paper loss where the label was removed. Lot 703.  Time Covers Signed by Media Moguls –Murdoch, Turner, Sulzberger. Rupert Murdoch signed the Jan. 17, 1977 Time cover. Signature is a 9. Murdoch’s media interests include the Fox network. 2. Aug. 9, 1982 cover signed by Ted Turner, a 9. 3. Arthur Sulzberger (Sr.), publisher of the New York Times for almost three decades, Aug. 15, 1977, a 10 signature. Magazine covers only; all have mailing folds and either removed or present mailing labels. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 704.  Erma Bombeck, Russell Baker, Garrison Keillor Autographs on Time Covers. Three different American humorists are represented here: Housewives’ champion Erma Bombeck (d. 1996) signed a July 2, 1984 cover. Her signature is a nm-m 8 to mint 9. 2. Columnist Russell Baker signed “Best Wishes, Russell Baker” on the June 4, 1979 cover. His signature is a 10. 3. Nov. 4, 1985 cover signed by Garrison Keillor, great signature, a 10. All magazine covers have mailing folds and labels. The Baker cover has a chipped corner and minor edge chipping. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 705.  Signatures of Creighton Abrams, Jessica Lynch, William Calley, Others on Time Covers. General Abrams, a four-star general, commanded military operations in Vietnam from 1968-72. In 1972, he was named Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army. This Feb. 15, 1971 cover is a strong 10. 2. Oct. 20, 1979, David C. Jones signature, during his tenure as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, pers., 9. 3. Leonard Matlovich, a gay member of the U.S. Air Force who fought to stay in the service, Sept. 8, 1975, 10. Also included is a transmittal letter, 10. 4. Lynch, Nov. 17, 2003, shortly after her rescue from Iraqi captivity, (pers., 8). 5. Calley, Apr. 12, 1971, during the height of the “My Lai” trial and sentencing, 10. 6. “E Zumwalt, Admiral U.S. Navy, Chief of Naval Operations,” the youngest man ever to attain that post signed this Dec. 21, 1970 cover on the collar of his white shirt, 10. He passed away in 2000. 7. July 13, 1970 cover signed by Jerry Wilson, Washington D.C. Police Chief from 1969-74, 8, with a transmittal letter, 9. 8. Thomas Reddin, L.A. Police Chief from 1967-9, who modernized that force, signed this cover “7-19-68,” 9. Each autograph is on a Time magazine cover only, and has been folded for mailing with possible minor chipping to edges or staple holes. Almost all have an intact mailing label. Lot 706.  Time Covers Signed by CIA Directors William Colby, Stansfield Turner. This Sept. 30, 1974 issue with Colby on the cover may very well be one-of-a-kind because it features the CIA director’s emphatic response to a question posed by the magazine. On the cover, Time asks: “The CIA. Has It Gone Too Far?” Above his signature, which is a 9-10, Colby wrote “NO —.” Colby passed away in 1996. 2. Feb. 6, 1978, Turner signature, 9, and transmittal letter sent on CIA letterhead. Magazine covers only, have been folded for mailing with labels, and minor staple damage. Lot 707.  Time Covers Signed by War Protesters – the Berrigan Brothers, Daniel Ellsberg. Jan. 25, 1971 cover with both Philip and Daniel Berrigan signatures, 10s. Both brothers were Roman Catholic priests and radical Vietnam protestors, who were each convicted and sentenced several times throughout the war. Philip passed away in 2002. 2. Ellsberg, July 5, 1971, not even a month after his release of “The Pentagon Papers.” Signature is personalized, 9-10. Both covers have been folded for mailing and show remnants of labels. The Berrigans’ cover has minor edge chipping and staple holes. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 708.  Signature of Saudi Arabia’s Prince Fahd on the Cover of Time, May 22, 1978. Prince Fahd was the fourth of Saudi founder Ibn Saud’s five sons to rule the kingdom; he did so from 1982 until his death in 2005. His signature is a gem mint 10. Comes with an Oct. 3, 1978 transmittal letter from the Saudi Embassy testifying to the authenticity of the signature. The cover has mailing folds and the residue from a removed label but is otherwise exceptionally clean. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 709.  Autograph of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat on the Cover of Time, Nov. 28, 1977. The week previous to this magazine’s release, Sadat became the first Arab leader to officially visit Israel when he met with Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. In 1978, this work would culminate into the Camp David Agreement, which would win Sadat and Begin the Nobel Peace Prize. Sadat’s signature is beautiful along the bottom red margin, high contrast, 9. His signature is very scarce and even more so on covers of Time. He was named Time’s Person of the Year for 1977. The cover is accompanied by a transmittal letter signed by his PR Director, in 1978. Sadat passed away in 1981. The cover has mailing folds and label residue, as well as minor edge chipping. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 710.  Autograph of Mohammad Riza Pahlavi – the Shah of Iran. Mohammad Riza Pahlavi was the last Shah of the Iranian monarchy, from 1941 until the Iranian Revolution of 1979. While his “White Revolution” led to many beneficial social and economic reforms, the Westernization of Iran and his abolition of the two-party system in 1975 earned him much opposition and his and his family’s exile in 1979. His signature is on his personal card, which is affixed to the Sept. 18, 1978 cover of Time. Signed M. R. Pahlavi, 9-10. D. 1980. The cover exhibits mailing folds and soft vertical folds, with a few tiny staple holes. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 711.  6 Autographs of German Leaders Including Willy Brandt. The signatures of Brandt (1913-92) are unlined index-style cards. Each has a photo of Brandt attached. Brandt was the Chancellor of West Germany 1969-74, and he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1971. Two photos, each about 4” x 6”, were signed by Erich Honecker, and two others by Helmut Schmidt (possible autopens). Honecker (1912-94) led East Germany from 1971-89. He died in exile in Chile. Schmidt succeeded Brandt and held office until 1984. Also, a Konrad Adenauer photo bearing a printed signature. Also present are two transmittal letters to the original collector from a German staffer dated 1976 and 1977.
