Music – On Paper or Vinyl   24 Lots    «

Lot 727.  78-RPM Albums Featuring Louis Armstrong, Ethel Waters, Desi, Boogie Woogie. A four-record album titled “Singing the Blues” contains two songs each by Armstrong, Waters, Jack Teagarden and Mildred Bailey. Among the songs are “Careless Love,” “Blues in the South,” “That Ain’t Right” and “I Don’t Want to Miss Mississippi.” The Waters record is cracked. We got it to play all the way through, and in short order, her performances force the “click” at the crack into the background. The other records play as vg or vg+. “Freddie Slack’s Boogie Woogie,” the second album, contains four records with such songs as “Rib Joint,” “Southpaw Serenade” and “Blackout Boogie.” Slack was one of the first artist’s signed when Capitol records was formed, and he gave the label its first big hit, “Cow Cow Boogie,” which is not in this collection. The records are at least vg+, with little evidence of having been played. The four-record Desi Arnaz album includes the tile song “Babalu,” as well as “Brazil,” “Cuban Pete” and more. The record with “Tico Tico” and “Peanut Vendor” is broken. The three others are vg+. Accompanying these albums is a generic album with a “Tops” record featuring covers “Earth Angel” and three other songs.

Lot 744.  1981 Rolling Stones “Tattoo You” Backstage Pass. As any concert goer knows, backstage at a major rock show is like a fortress, with each consecutive inner door or barrier demanding another credential for greater access. Backstage passes, also known as Silkies or Satins, were the original indicators of such privilege. This pass from the Oct. 17, 1981 Stones show at Candlestick Park in San Francisco would have entitled the wearer to access preferred seating and all areas backstage after the show, including parties and probably introductions to the performers. Besides the Stones, the artists included the J. Geils Band and George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers. This show was part of the Rolling Stones’ “American Tour 1981,” which grossed more than $50 million and set attendance and sponsorship records, some of which still stand. The pass is 3 ¾”x 3 ¾” and used (adhesive back is exposed), showing only slight wear around the edges. It is in remarkable shape considering its age and the fact that it was worn through what must have been one heck of a show!
Minimum Bid $50.

Lot 745.  Rare 1971 Elvis Hotel Menu, 1981 John-Yoko Rolling Stone. Two of the biggest names in modern music in one lot. 1. One of Rolling Stone’s most memorable covers, Jan. 21, 1981, features Yoko Ono and a nude John Lennon in bed during their time at the Dakota in New York. Annie Liebovitz took the photo on Dec. 8, 1980. That same evening, Lennon was shot and killed. The issue has chips around the edges and displays nicely. 2. 1971 International Hotel in Las Vegas, souvenir menu, from the Elvis Summer Festival. Printed on heavy card stock, it is 9” x 12” and has a vertical crease. Very hard item to find.
Winning Bid $20.
