The Mid-Week Pictorials with Ruth on the cover are also especially collectible. And some of the magazines with Ruth covers are downright scarce. Books: 2. Winning Bid $321.

Lot 119.  1910 Line Drives at the Pittsburg Pirates Including Honus Wagner and Fred Clarke. Published by The Pittsburg Press, this soft-cover yearbook, one of the earliest, commemorates the 1909 Pirates’ World Series Championship over Ty Cobb and the Tigers and introduces the 1910 season and players. There are 22 full-page spoofs or caricatures by “Rigby,” including Wagner, Clarke, Babe Adams and others. In each case, a headshot photo of the player is superimposed on a cartoon body with commentary. Wagner is referred to as the “King,” and the cartoon shows him on a throne. Early photos of “Forbes Field – World’s Greatest Baseball Park” and “After the Game, The Pittsburg Hippodrome, On Forbes Field, Opening May 30” punctuate these pages. Ex+ with very minimal soiling. The middle four pages have come undone from their staples, which produced minor rust on the pages. The only modifications to this yearbook add wonderful character. Pasted inside the front cover is a full-page newspaper clipping headshot of Fred Clarke, and inside the rear cover is an 8-4 win over Boston box score from a newspaper. It carries the notation: “Clarke’s Last Game, Sept. 23, 1915, Was There” in pencil. This is the best copy we have seen of this relatively scarce publication.
Winning Bid $587.

Lot 120.  1946 Red Sox at Cardinals World Series Game 7 Program, Game 6 Scorecard. In 1946, Ted Williams played in the World Series for the only time in his career, and his National League counterpart, Stan Musial, reached the series for the last time. Neither superstar was a factor as pitching dominated the series. The teams were evenly matched, and Game 7 was tied through 7 ½ innings. In the bottom of the eighth inning with two out and Enos Slaughter on first, Harry Walker singled to left-center field. Running at full-speed, Slaughter scored on the single, sliding home just ahead of the throw by Johnny Pesky, who had hesitated for a second before hurling the ball toward home. Slaughter’s run became known as his “Mad Dash,” and it gave the Cardinals the Championship. Pitching in relief, Harry Brecheen was the winning pitcher. The victory made him the first left-handed pitcher to win three games in a World Series. Besides Musial and Williams, other future Hall of Fame members pictured in the 32-page program are Schoendienst, Slaughter, Doerr and Cronin, the Red Sox manager. Four HoF executives also are shown, Chandler, Harridge, Frick and Yawkey. Other familiar faces are those of Joe Garagiola and Dom DiMaggio. The program is neatly scored in pen for Game 7 and is vg-ex. Also included is a Game 6 scorecard, which apparently was sponsored by St. Louis businesses. It is nicely scored in pencil and nm.
Winning Bid $134.

Lot 121.  1946 Red Sox at St. Louis World Series Game 7 Ticket Stub PSA-Graded VG-EX 4. In this game, Enos Slaughter’s “Mad Dash” brought the Cardinals a World Series. The game also marked the last World Series appearance of both Stan Musial and Ted Williams. The stub features bold red and blue colors. It was neatly detached for the remainder of the ticket, and it has a light crease toward the bottom that is visible only on the back. It’s overall appearance is at least ex, and overall, the ticket seems consistent with an ex grade.
Winning Bid $180.

Lot 122.  8 1950-2 Baseball Comics Including Kiner, Robinson, Doby, Campanella. “Captain” Billy Fawcett tackled many pulp niches with his 1919 Fawcett publication venture, and these sports issues were part of his foray into comic books during the Golden Age. All date between 1950 and 1952. Ralph Kiner: Home Run King, vg-ex with ex-m interior. Jackie Robinson: Baseball Hero, with an inoffensive pencil puncture at the bottom left throughout; otherwise ex+. Roy Campanella: Baseball Hero, vg+ to ex. Larry Doby: Baseball Hero, vg+-ex. Don Newcombe: Baseball Hero, vg cover with ex+ interior. Phil Rizzuto: Baseball Hero, ex-m+. 1951 Giants – Team of Destiny, ex to ex+. Story of the 1951 World Champions and Great Yankee Teams of the Past, ex-m. In addition to the cover art, each issue has either a full-page color photo of the player or a team photo on the reverse.
Winning Bid $520.
