Baseball Vending Games & Machines   5 Lots

Lot 178.  1940s-50s “Baseball” Gum Vending Machine by Multi-Vendor. For 1 penny, this vintage vendor dispensed a gumball and allowed the purchaser to play a game by catapulting it as many times as necessary in order to achieve a “Single, Double, Triple, Home Run” or a “Strikeout.” The gumball was then dispensed to the player through a metal corridor with a metal front flap. The vertical playing surface is circular, about 6” in diameter. Period graphics on the playing surface include a baseball diamond and a “Baseball” identified with bold block letters. The vending machine is original and in good working order. It opens with the key provided. Obviously rare and very desirable.
Winning Bid $440.

Lot 179.  1950s Victor Vending Baseball Gum Machine. For 1 cent, this vintage vendor dispensed a gumball and allowed the purchaser to play a game by catapulting the ball in order to achieve a Single, Double, Triple, Home Run or a Fly Out or Strike Out. The logos of each of the 16 teams that then made up the major leagues are on the front glass panel in 1 ¼” decals. Another decal illustrates a baseball diamond, a batter and a catcher. This vending machine is original and in good working order; two keys that provides access to the machine’s interior are present. This is a fabulous machine that is also in fabulous condition, near pristine.
Winning Bid $484.

Lot 180.  1950s Baseball Card Vending Machine by Calex Manufacturing. This scarce vending machine, which is in exceptionally nice condition, is original and in good working order. A key provides access to the machine’s interior. The 11” x 23” front of the machine is striking. Six 1957 Topps baseball cards, which are included, grace the colorful front panel display. Text on the panel reads “Buy The Entire Series, 6 for 5 cents, use nickel only, Educational – Entertaining.” Simply awesome!
Winning Bid $646.

Lot 181.  1950s “Play Ball” Gum Vending Machine by Ekholm Mfg. This vintage vendor dispensed a gumball for 1 cent. For the same penny, the purchaser could play a game by shooting the gumball pin-ball style onto a playing field covered by glass. Once there, a “Base on Balls, 1 Base Hit, Fly Out, Home Run, Strike Out, 2 Base Hit or 3 Base Hit” was recorded, and the candy treat then fell into a tray for the player to pick up. The playing field in green with the white lines of a baseball diamond presents horizontally and also pictures period graphics of baseball players. The glass above it has an inoffensive 1” hairline crack in the lower left corner. The front of the machine features a “Play Ball” decal on its vertical outer face and a “Delicious Candy 1 cent” decal on the inside of the vertical glass. This piece of glass exhibits a hairline vertical crack. The two side panels of the vendor each feature the decal of a baseball player in period uniform with bat in hand. Beneath the player on each side, there are “Play Ball” decals. This wonderful machine with a key that provides access to the interior is original and in good working order. It speaks to the beauty of a simpler time.
Winning Bid $300.
