Baseball Memorabilia   30 Lots       »

Lot 189.  Rare 1910 Turkey Red Cigarettes Store Advertisement. From the tobacco company that brought us the fabulous T3 cabinet cards comes this early Turkey Red Cigarette promotional display, which was most likely issued to stores already framed to hang and inspire better sales. Measuring 13” x 17, it is in the original 16” x 20” frame. Issued one in exchange for every 10 coupons from Turkey Red cigarette packs, T3s continue to be regarded as the most visually appealing sets ever produced. This advertisement is in beautiful shape, with just one or two tiny blemishes visible in the upper right as it resides in its original mission oak frame. This advertisement would punctuate any early baseball collection.
Winning Bid $572.

Lot 190.  Early 1900s Original Pinch Hit Chewing Tobacco Tin Sign with a Baseball Theme. Advertising Signs of this type, vintage and character are much sought after and very rarely offered. This 9 ¼” x 14” sign features a batter in period uniform within a circle that is approximately 7” in diameter. The sign has a few nail holes from having been displayed and some rust that only seems to add to its powerful presence. Text on the sign reads “PINCH HIT, The Hit of the Day, Sta-moist package, Pinch Hit Chewing Tobacco, Better Flavor.” A phenomenal display piece.
Winning Bid $264.

Lot 191.  1900-05 Spalding Mushroom Knob Baseball Bat. Exceptionally nice 33” example that has some minor scratches and dings, and signs of good use but not abuse. The handle is taped. “Spalding Mushroom” remains deeply engraved, and the bat has an attractive patina. Will display very well.
Winning Bid $354.

Lot 192.  1930 Pie-Eyed Mickey Mouse Catching. The bisque is approximately 3 ¼” tall. Almost 100% of the paint is present. Impressed into the bisque is “Walt E. Disney” and “Made in Japan.” It is among the most desirable of the early Mickey Mouse figures.
Winning Bid $390.

Lot 193.  1930s-40s Old Gold Cigarettes Cardboard Ad with a Baseball Theme. This colorful 9 ¼” x 18 ¾” ad features an artist’s rendering of a player sliding into home with a catcher attempting to apply a tag. Also featured is a pack of “Old Gold” cigarettes. The ad which at one time perhaps graced the inside of a bus or trolley is displayed in a vintage frame. The colors are spectacular and so is the period artwork.
Winning Bid $134.

Lot 194.  1948 “Play Ball” Large Punchboard with a Baseball Theme. This punchboard remains in its original unpunched state. For 1 cent per punch, a customer could play. Proceeds were used to benefit “The Damon Runyon Memorial Cancer Fund.” This punchboard is approximately 13” x 19 ½” x 1” deep. It features a wide variety of very colorful period baseball graphics and affords the player the option to play in separate areas designated for either the National or American Leagues. There is a bit of staining that somehow seems only to add to the wonderful period charm.
Minimum Bid $50.

Lot 195.  St. Louis Browns Full General Admission Ticket. This ticket is from a spring training game played in either 1948 or 1953 at Perris Hills Stadium in San Bernardino. Those were the only two years that the stadium played host to the Browns. The undated ticket reads “St. Louis Browns Spring Exhibition, Perris Hills Stad. – San Bernardino General Admission – Child 50 cents.” The stadium was built in 1934 and demolished in 1985. The perforations at the rain check portion remain strong as does the appearance of this ex-m rarity.
Minimum Bid $50.

Lot 196.  Homestead Grays Negro League Pennant. Players like Josh Gibson, Buck Leonard, Judy Johnson and Cool Papa Bell made the Homestead Grays a team to be feared regardless of the opponent. This thick brown felt pennant measures 8 ½” x 28”. It features a batter and catcher on the left side and “HOMESTEAD GRAYS” in large bold white letters to the right. There are a few inoffensive pin holes in this otherwise ex-m pennant. A tremendous display piece, the pennant represents one of only a relatively few surviving artifacts from a legendary league and franchise. It is a legitimate piece of American history.
Winning Bid $528.

Lot 197.  Vintage Brooklyn Dodgers Pennant with the “Bum” + “Bum” Rubber Figurine. The pennant, which is in exceptionally nice condition, measures about 5” x 12” and features the “Bum” in pink, gray and white along with “Brooklyn Dodgers” in bold white letters on the black felt background. The gold tassels are the icing on the cake of this nm beauty. The famed “Bum” rubber figurine by Rempel Mfg. exhibits all of the characteristics of Brooklyn’s beloved mascot, from the holes in his shoes to the feather in his hat. His paint has faded just a bit; his 1950s charm has not. Let’s get these two historic mementoes from one of MLB’s most storied franchises started with a modest MB $75.
Winning Bid $152.

Lot 198.  1958-62 Duke Snider Original Hartland Statue. Ex-m cream-colored figure with a few small spots of paint, apparently as manufactured, on Snider’s face. The figure stands firmly and comes with the original bat.
Winning Bid $198.

Lot 199.  4 Dallas Hartland Statues with Original Boxes – Clemente, Dean, Ford and Gehrig. Hartland created six new statues in 1990. These four players were among them. Each of the statues comes in a box, along with its original packaging, in what has become known as “the green box.” These collectible boxes feature the player on the front panel. Production was authorized to 10,000 for Clemente and Ford. Although the run for Dean and Gehrig was supposed to be much larger, it is believed that each was limited to 500. Each of the statues is MINT.
Winning Bid $198.

Lot 237.  Rare 1913 Pittsburgh Pirates 32” x 14” Team Supplement from The Index. This huge black and white premium appears to be the least common of the early 1900s Pittsburgh supplements. Several players and features make it especially interesting. Honus Wagner missed the photo session. His image was added later. Besides Wagner, two other Hall of Fame members are in the photo, Max Carey and manager Fred Clarke. One of the game’s better non-Hall of Fame pitchers, Babe Adams, also is present. Probably taken at spring training in Hot Springs, AR, the photo shows one player who never actually played for the Pirates. Dutch Reuther, misidentified as “Reuther” in the photo, received a try-out at spring training. He signed a contract that allowed him to leave the team if the Pirates wanted to assign him to a minor league team. They did, and he left, eventually reaching the majors in 1917 with the Cubs. The supplement has some inoffensive separations, folds and creases that fail to detract from the well focused, nicely contrasted image. The blank-backed supplement has been neatly adhered to stiff paper measuring 34” x 16”. A magnificent display item.
Winning Bid $862.

Lot 245.  “Follow Me to Forbes Field” 24” x 24” Metal Sign. In the late 1950s and 1960s, signs like this were used to direct Pittsburgh Pirates fans to venerable Forbes Field. This sign is a mint reproduction of the original. It comes with a photo that shows an original sign in use.
Winning Bid $83.

Lot 246.  1960-61 Square Gold Base Pittsburgh Pirates Mascot Bobbing Head Doll. Outstanding condition, nm-m.
Winning Bid $148.

Lot 247.  1960 World Series Ticket Stub and Rain Check for Game 7. Few moments in sports history trump Bill Mazeroski’s Series-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth inning in Game 7 at Forbes Field. Although the New York Yankees out-hit and out-scored the unheralded Pittsburgh team, the Pirates nevertheless came away with baseball’s 1960 World Championship. The front of this reserved seat stub and rain check could hardly be better. There are some very light surface creases on the stub. The rain check is crease-free. The back shows some paper loss where the ticket was torn from the stub, and there is another area of paper loss about ¼” wide. The front of the ticket is ex-m, and overall, the ticket is ex.
Winning Bid $291.
