Lot 21.  Complete Set of 6 Circa 1910 PC798-44 Valentine & Sons Comic Baseball PCs. These colorful cards have undivided backs tjat say “Printed in Great Britain.” Three cards are ex+, two with minor stains or stray pencil marks on the back; one is vg-ex, and two are vg. This is one of the more difficult comic postcard sets to complete.
Winning Bid $152.

Lot 22.  Extremely Rare Circa 1910s Uncataloged W. D. Schmidt Ad Card of Ed Walsh. The Hall of Fame pitcher for the Chicago White Sox is featured in this 11” x 13 ¼” sepia and white card promoting W. D. Schmidt & Company, “Merchant Tailors, Chicago, ‘The Standard All Wool Line’.” We have never seen another example of these cards, and they appear to be even rarer than the contemporaneous Boston Garter issue. This example has stains in the border, two small areas of paper loss and an area along the right border that is slightly darker than the rest of the image. In the top border, it has two holes for a string hanger. The card displays very nicely, and the image of Walsh is especially strong. Walsh reached the zenith of his career when he won 40 games in 1908. He concluded his career with 195 wins, 126 losses and a 1.82 ERA. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1946. He is also remembered as the “man who built Comiskey Park.” The architect of Comiskey Park, Zachary Taylor Davis, is said to have consulted Walsh in designing the ball park, and together, they turned it into a “pitcher’s park.” A superb pitcher and a remarkable card!
Winning Bid $700.

Lot 23.  1910-11 T3 Turkey Red Cabinet Card of #1 HoF Pitcher Mordecai Brown. Our consignor purchased this card in the 1970s. Planning to keep it and enjoy it forever, he had it professionally restored to enhance its appearance and his enjoyment. For health reasons, he is now parting with this T3 and others that he had restored. This card displays as vg+ to ex with repairs to the corners and a single pin hole. The image area is free of creases and presents brilliant colors. The back is clean.
Winning Bid $949.

Lot 24.  1910-11 T3 Turkey Red Card of #5 Sam Crawford, Hall of Fame Detroit Outfielder. This card is free of creases except for light creases in the lower corners, and there is an obvious stain at Crawford’s head. The tips of the corners have undergone minor restoration. Ex appearance except for the stain.
Winning Bid $250.

Lot 25.  1910-11 T3 Turkey Red Card of #9 Ty Cobb. Our consignor has enjoyed this magnificent card since the 1970s. To improve its appearance, and his enjoyment, he had three pin holes in the top border filled in and some color added to the gray corners. The card is free of creases except for a tiny crease in each lower corner. The image area is outstanding.
Winning Bid $2,904.
