Baseball Autographs   46 Lots    «  »

Lot 119.  8” x 10” Color Photo Signed by Harold “Pee Wee” Reese. This form of Reese’s signature is less common than “Pee Wee Reese.” With “Good Luck” added above, the signature is an unimprovable gem mint 10. Reese played a key role in Jackie Robinson’s acceptance by his Brooklyn Dodgers teammates. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1984 and passed away in 1999. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $75.

Lot 120.  Mike Schmidt Signed Rawlings Adirondack Big Stick Professional Model Bat. The Hall of Fame third baseman has signed the bat boldly in black sharpie. The signature is a Gem Mint 10. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $113.

Lot 121.  J. G. (Taylor) Spink Signed Typed 1944 Letter on The Sporting News Letterhead. Spink transformed The Sporting News from a struggling enterprise into “the Bible of baseball.” He served as its publisher from 1914 until his death in 1962. He routinely did battle with Judge Landis. The Hall of Fame honored him by creating an award that carries his name to recognize journalists who make outstanding contributions to baseball. Dated Dec. 21, 1944, the letter contains baseball content. In it, although he was a stickler for accuracy, Spink misidentifies Tony Mullane as a 300-game winner who is not in the Hall of Fame, Actually, Mullane finished with 284 victories. He still is on the outside looking in, but others Spink lists are enshrined at Cooperstown. The letter has been reinforced with tape and has various chips along the edges. Spink signed, as he normally did, with a flourish that appears to be “J. G. Spink.” The fountain pen signature grades nm-m 8. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Minimum Bid $50.

The baseballs are generally ex-m and better. Some appear to be game-used. Toning on the Gentile, Gossage and Houk balls is somewhat uneven.
