Lot 136.  1934 St. Louis at Detroit World Series Program. The Cardinals’ “Gas House Gang” with Dizzy Dean, Daffy”Dean, Ducky Medwick, Frankie Frisch and Pepper Martin are pictured on the inside pages along with Detroit’s Mickey Cochrane, Goose Goslin, Charlie Gehringer and Hank Greenberg. Unscored program has a vg cover and ex inside pages. The Cardinals won the Series in seven games.

Lot 137.  16 Chicago Cubs Scorecards, 1938-46. These scorecards range from vg to ex+ and average vg+ to ex. Some have a number (#) written on the front, some are scored (S), and others have the game’s box score (Bx) from a newspaper, or a ticket stub (T) or both glued in. 1938: Vs. Philadelphia, S. 1939: 7 different. Actually, two are Chicago White Sox programs – from the City Baseball Championship series played in October between the Cubs and Sox. The Sox won the series in seven games. Four programs are from the series, for Games 2, 3, 4 and 6. Two are Cubs home programs. All have the game number on the cover and box scores pasted inside. Other 1939 programs are vs. Brooklyn (#, S) with Dizzy Dean pitching a shutout for the Cubs, vs. St. Louis (#, Bx) and vs. New York (#, Bx). 1940: Both vs. New York, one (Bx, T) with Root on the cover, and the other (Bx, T) with Leiber on the cover. 1941: 3 different, one vs. Cincinnati (#, Bx, T). Two are for the series with the White Sox, Oct. 1 (T) and Oct. 5 (T). 1945: Both vs. Philadelphia, May 24 (#, T, Bx) and Sept. 14 (#, Bx), both with Jimmie Foxx in the printed lineup. 1946: Vs. Cincinnati. Bonus: 1988 60-page program, Wrigley Field: Commemorating Wrigley Field’s First Night Baseball Game, ex.

Lot 138.  1940s-50s Philadelphia A’s Collection of Scorecards, Connie Mack Books. Frederick G. Lieb wrote the first of two books offered, Connie Mack: Grand Old Man of Baseball, 1945, second printing, ex book, g dust jacket. Mack’s own book, My 66 Years in the Big Leagues, is a stated first edition published in 1950; ex-m to nm book, ex dj. Five programs are offered: 1942, No. 2, vs. New York, scored, date written on cover, vg-ex. The 1942 team and Elmer Valo are pictured in the 12-page program. DiMaggio is listed in center field for the Yankees. 1944, No. 1, vs. New York, scored, Mack on the cover, Newsom pictured inside, vg. 1946, No. 2, vs. Cleveland, vg+. 1948, No. 1, vs. New York, scored, ex. 1949, No. 1, vs. Detroit, scored, vg. Excellent representation of the A’s in the ‘40s.

Lot 139.  1947, 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers at New York Yankees World Series Programs. These programs are steeped in baseball history. The rivalry between the Yanks and “Dem” Bums is perhaps baseball’s most storied. In 1947, the Yankees defeated the Dodgers to capture the World Championship in seven games. This program from one of the games is unscored with a vg-ex cover and ex-m inside pages. Players pictured include Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and rookie sensation Jackie Robinson. The middle two pages are loose. The 1955 Series was the first and only time that the Dodgers won a World Series. Johnny Podres pitched a nine-inning shutout to win the deciding seventh game, 2-0. This scored program is from the sixth game, which the Yankees won, 5-1. Yankee and Dodger greats are pictured throughout this vg-ex program.

Lot 140.  Cleveland 1948 First Yearbook (Signed by Mike Garcia), World Series Program. Led by Lou Boudreau, the Indians launched the 1948 season with their first yearbook, called a “sketchbook,” and concluded it with their first World Championship. Spiral-bound and containing 48 pages of information and photos, the yearbook is vg with stains along the outside edges of about three-fourths of the pages. Garcia, who passed away in 1986, signed on the first page inside the cover. His signature is a 10. In 13 seasons in Cleveland, he twice won 20 games or more and posted a 142-97 lifetime record with a 3.27 ERA. While the yearbook does not picture Garcia, it does show the American League’s first African-American player, Larry Doby. By the time the World Series rolled around, Satchel Paige had joined the team. Both he and Doby are pictured in the 32-page Cleveland program, along with such stars as Boudreau, Feller, Lemon, Spahn and Sain. Soap opera fans may also want to know that John Berardino, future star of “General Hospital,” is pictured in both publications. The program is complete and vg with a stain affecting the last four pages and the back cover. An excellent pair of publications highlighted by the Garcia autograph.

Lot 141.  28 Issues of Sport Life Magazine 1948-53. Sport Life was published on an irregular basis from Sept. 1948 through June 1953. The publication features outstanding full-color front covers. Lot 144.  1956, 1957 World Series Programs – N.Y. at Brooklyn, Milwaukee at N.Y. The 1956 program for a game at Ebbets Field is unscored and ex+. The Yankees took the series in seven games. The 1957 program from Yankee Stadium also is unscored and ex+. The Yankees lost this Series to the Braves. Exceptionally nice programs.

Lot 146.  5 Different 1958-1964 New York Yankees World Series Programs. All are for games at Yankee Stadium. 1. 1958 vs. the Milwaukee Braves. The Yankees won the Series in seven games. Unscored, vg-ex. 2. 1960 vs. the Pirates. Pittsburgh beat the Yankees in this seven-game series that concluded with Bill Mazeroski’s historic home run in the bottom of the 9th inning. Unscored, vg cover, ex-m inside pages. 3. 1962 vs.San Francisco. The Yankees won this Series in seven games. The unscored program is vg-ex. 4. 1963 vs. the Dodgers. Los Angeles swept the Yankees. Vg cover, ex inside pages and unscored. 5. 1964 vs. St. Louis. The Cardinals captured this seven-game Series. Vg-ex cover, ex inside pages and scored.

Lot 147.  1959, 1965 L.A. Dodgers’ World Championship Programs + 1966. After only 2 years in Los Angeles, the Dodgers captured their first World Championship, defeating the White Sox , four games to two, in the 1959 World Series. The unscored program is ex. Also: 1965 vs. Twins. Ex-m+ unscored program. Dodgers win in seven games. And 1966 vs. the Orioles. Ex-m unscored program. Orioles win in four straight games.
