Lot 596.  4 Early 1900s Minor League and Local Baseball Programs. 1. 1904 Leominster, Mass., scorecard for a game between the Milfords, probably Milford, Conn., and a local “Athletics” team. Scored, corner chip, “1902” written on it. 2. 1920s Jamestown program, Corry at the Spider-Webbs, 4 pages, vg. Unusual cover says “A Man will be Buried in Flames during the greatest July 4th Celebration in the History of Celoron Park.” 3. Early 1900s generic scorecard promoting Royal Tailors of Chicago and New York, corner chips, humorous artwork. 4. Undated circa 1905 Lynn, Mass., at Portland, Me., game, Pine Tree Athletic Association, 4 pages, scored, vertical fold, vg.

Lot 597.  Attractive 1904 Program for Concord vs. Manchester of the New England League. There is a Draper & Maynard ad inside the program, which is scored and vg-ex.

Lot 598.  1906 Baltimore at Newark Eastern League Program with Great Cover Artwork. Mike Mowrey was at third base for Baltimore. He had a 13-season National or Federal League career with Cincinnati, St. Louis, Pittsburgh and Brooklyn. The 16-page program has a vertical fold, is partially and lightly scored and vg-ex.

Lot 599.  1906 Harvard vs. Holy Cross Baseball Program with Jack Barry at Shortstop. Two seasons later, after being recruited by Connie Mack, “Black Jack” would be playing at second base and shortstop for the Athletics. He was a superb fielder and one of baseball’s best clutch hitters. Subsequently, he coached baseball at his alma mater for more than 30 years. The eight-page program plus covers is ex and unscored with “Harvard” written in pencil on the front cover. Inside, the Holy Cross team and Fitton Field are pictured. Also shown is John Flynn, the Holy Cross captain who played first base for Pittsburgh 1910-11 and Washington in 1912.

Lot 600.  1908 Canadian Baseball Program for Copper Cliff of the North Shore League. Other teams in the league were Massey, Webbwood and Sudbury. The season consisted of 18 games for each team. The program contains 12 inside pages plus the covers. There is a scorecard, but no rosters. A couple of stray ink marks on the cover; otherwise, vg-ex.

Lot 601.  Racist Early 1900s Program for a Marlboro, Mass., Physicians vs. Merchants Baseball Game. The front cover advises readers to “See the n——- on the last page,” and the back cover contains a clown-like black caricature. The 12-page program also offers baseball poetry, humorous drawings and advertisements. G cover with ex contents.

Lot 602.  1911 Grand Rapids at Dayton Baseball Program. This 20-page program is probably for the original Central Baseball League. The scorecard inside is partly and lightly scored in pencil, has a small scuff on the Grand Rapids page and is dated 6-11-11. Vg-ex with excellent cover art and an outstanding Studebaker car ad on the back cover.

Lot 603.  1920s Draper & Maynard, Reach Colorful Scorecards. Both are unused, ex and feature colorful period graphics. The “Lucky Dog” is on the D&M scorecard. The Reach scorecard is unfolded.

Lot 604.  1921 American Association Milwaukee at St. Paul Program. This 20-page program is neatly scored, has a small tear in the back cover and otherwise is ex.

Lot 605.  1922 Minneapolis-Kansas City Program Packed with Major Leaguers. Fourteen sometime major league players are pictured in this 32-page American Association program: Otto Knabe, Bugs Morris, Raymond Caldwell, Beals Becker, Wilbur Good, Paul Carter, Red Ames, Ferd Schupp, Anthony Brief, Snooks Dowd, Walter Lutzke, Lew McCarty, Edward Zwilling and Bill Skiff. Center section loose, some residue on the cover, otherwise ex.

Lot 606.  1933 New York Giants Scorecard for “Hal Schumacher Day.” If the Giants’ Hubbell was “King Carl,” then Schumacher was “Prince Hal.” He helped the New York team to win a World Championship in 1933, a N.L. title in 1936, and he won 23 games in 1934. Before being signed by the Giants, Schumacher attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. While playing for the Giants, he continued his education, and he was scheduled to graduate on June 12, 1933. Since the Giants had the day off, the team accompanied Schumacher to his graduation – and played a game against the St. Lawrence team! The major leaguers won, 12-4. The scorecard front contains a photo of Schumacher. Unscored, minor stain on the front, Schumacher’s name underlined inside. Ex appearance.

Lot 607.  3 1930s Boston Red Sox Scorecards – All for New York Yankees Games. The scorecards, for 1935, 1936 and 1937, are unscored and vg-ex. All have pre-printed lineups, and the Yankees fielded such stars as Gehrig and Dickey for all three games. DiMaggio, Crosetti and Lazzeri appear in one or more seasons. Big names for the Red Sox include Cronin and Foxx. The three programs represent plenty of interesting baseball history.

Lot 608.  1938 Chicago Cubs at New York World Series Program. Joe Gordon and Red Ruffing were the heroes of this series as the Yankees swept the Cubs. The 28-page program pictures such notables as Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Bill Dickey, Joe McCarthy, Dizzy Dean, Billy Herman, Gabby Hartnett and Tony Lazzeri. The program is clean and unscored with a vg-ex appearance. A ½” x 3” area at the bottom of each page has been restored. The restoration does not affect the photos or text.

Lot 609.  1939 Cincinnati Reds at New York World Series Program. For the second straight year, the Yankees swept their World Series opponent. The sweep gave them their fourth consecutive World Championship. The program is loaded with photos of the leading stars from the two teams, including Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Bill Dickey, Joe McCarthy, Billy Herman, Gabby Hartnett and Tony Lazzeri. It was a couple of lesser lights who starred, however – Charlie Keller, who batted .438 with three home runs, and Monte Pearson, who pitched a two-hit shutout in Game 2. The 28-page unscored program has a vg-ex appearance with a ½” x 3” area of restoration at the bottom of each page. The restoration does not affect photos or text.

Lot 610.  4 Chicago White Sox Scorecards from Comiskey Park Season of 1939. Each scorecard has a ticket stub attached inside. The dates of these games are July 23 vs. New York, Aug. 18 vs. Cleveland, and Oct. 4 and Oct. 9 vs. the Cubs. The scorecards are unscored with newspaper accounts of the games attached inside. Small numbers that do not detract from the appearance are written in the top right of each front cover. Vg-ex.
