World Series Programs   6 Lots

Lot 185.  1931 St. Louis Cardinals at Philadelphia World Series Program. This Series featured such superstars as Foxx, Grove, Simmons, Cochrane, Frisch and Hafey, but Pepper Martin and Wild Bill Hallahan provided the heroics that led St. Louis to the World Championship. Nicely illustrated 36-page vg-ex unscored program.
Winning Bid $429.

Lot 186.  1933 New York at Washington World Series Program. The 16 inside pages of this vg-ex program picture notables from both teams - McGraw, Griffith, Cronin, Hubbell, Terry, Ott, etc. The Giants won the Series in five games. This program is neatly scored for Game 4, which the Giants won behind the pitching of Carl Hubbell, who won two games in the Series and didn’t allow an earned run in 20 innings.
Winning Bid $291.

Lot 187.  1946 Boston at St. Louis Program Marking Ted Williams’ First World Series. The Splendid Splinter made it to the World Series only once, in 1946 when the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Red Sox in seven games. Both Williams and Stan Musial played in the series, but it was the hitting of Harry Walker and the pitching of Harry Brecheen that enabled the Cardinals to prevail. The 32-page program is neatly scored for Game 1, which included a hit in three official at bats for Williams. A 10th-inning home run by Rudy York gave Boston a victory. Nice ex+ program.
Winning Bid $538.

Lot 188.  1947 Dodgers at Yankees World Series Program Featuring Jackie Robinson. The unscored vg+ to ex program is probably for Game 2, which saw Robinson batting second in the lineup. He was, of course, the first African-American to play in the World Series. He was also a star of Game 2, going two-for-four and driving in a run. The 56-page program pictures Yankee icons Ruth and Gehrig, as well as notables such as DiMaggio, Rizzuto, Berra, Reese, Robinson and Hodges. As a matter of trivia, this series also featured the second African-American to compete for the World Championship – Dan Bankhead, a pitcher used as a pinch runner in Game 6. He scored to help take the series to Game 7 – won by the Yankees. Bankhead is pictured.
Winning Bid $212.

Lot 189.  1962 New York at San Francisco World Series Program. This series featured the deluge and the final Fall Classic confrontation between Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle. After the Yankees took a 3 games to 2 lead in New York, rain delayed Game 6 for several days. When play did resume, many programs were damaged by the continuing rain. This 54-page unscored program is ex and especially nice for this series. The Yankees captured the World Championship in seven games. Bobby Richardson ensured the Yankees’ victory by spearing Willie McCovey’s line drive with the Giants’ tying and winning runs in scoring position. Neither Mays nor Mantle was a significant factor. Ralph Terry won Games 5 and 7 for the Yankees.
Winning Bid $102.

Lot 190.  Historic 1964 St. Louis at New York World Series Program. The 68 inside pages of this 68 page program picture notables from both teams - Mantle, Maris, Ford, Berra, Bob Gibson, Brock, etc. Scored for Game 3, the prgram is vg. This game saw one one of the most memorable and historic moments in New York Yankees World Series history. In the bottom of the 9th inning with the score 1-1, Mickey Mantle came to the plate. On the first pitch from Cardinals reliever Barney Schultz, he connected, driving the ball into the right field stands. This game-winning hit was Mantle’s 16th home run, the most ever in World Series competition. Mantle and Babe Ruth had been tied at 15 home runs.
Winning Bid $301.
