Lot 390.  12 Sporting News Baseball Registers, 1941-63. Issues are offered for 1941, 1943-48, 1951, 1959, 1960, 1962 and 1963. The 1945 issue is the condensed version. The 1959 and 1960 issues are hardbound. The paperback copies are vg-ex and better; the year is written on the cover of the 1941 edition. The hardbound copies are nm.

Lot 391.  Scarce Copy of the 1943 Commiss-oner’s (Landis’) Official Baseball Guide. Baseball Commissioner Judge Landis and J. G. Taylor Spink, Sporting News publisher, had something less than a mutual admiration society. For 1942, Landis agreed to allow Spink to publish an “Official Baseball Record Book.” But when a magazine article sparked another spat, Landis refused to allow Spink to call his 1943 guide “official.” Furthermore, he published his own guide, titled 1943 Baseball: Official Major and Minor League Records. Landis made copies available to teams. Because he did not offer the guide to the public, however, it is comparatively scarce. This 736-page “official” guide is vg.

Lot 392.  Thirty-First Annual Edition of the Baseball Blue Book 1940. Subtitled The Administrative Manual of Organized Baseball, this 352-page paperback guide contains major and minor league schedules, team officials and addresses, baseball rules, the “National Association Agreement” and other administrative information. Scarce official book published by the Heilbroner Baseball Bureau of Fort Wayne, Ind. Vg+ copy with a few pencil markings inside.

Lot 393.  8 Baseball Blue Book Publications, 1948-67. These publications provide an array of statistical and other information. For example, some provide players’ home addresses, trade information, disabled list details and major league debut dates. All softbound. 1. Advance Supplement to the 1948 Year & Notebook, 10 pages, vg-ex. 2. 1958 Inter-Club Organization, 10 pages, vg-ex. 3. Qualification Register for 1961. Thirty-two pages listing players’ draft and option status, ex. 4-8. Year and Notebook for 1963, 1964, 1966-68. Each is 90-100 pages. The first two average vg-ex and the final three, ex to ex+.

Lot 394.  1949 Who’s Who in the American Association, 2 Other Publications. Similar to the major league Who’s Who, this annual contains photos and statistics of American Association players. Among those pictured are Harvey Haddix, Harry Dorish, Jimmy Piersall, Ralph Houk, Bob Keegan, Maury McDermott, Johnny Logan, Billy Gardner, Clem Labine, Danny O’Connell, Lew Burdette and Jim Pendleton. Brought up by the Milwaukee Braves in 1953, Pendleton became one of the majors’ first black players. He lost his outfield position to Hank Aaron. Umpire Dusty Boggess also is pictured. Ex. Also offered are the 1977 All-Time Records and Highlights of the American Association (ex+) and a 1975 Indianapolis Indians scorecard (ex).

Green Books are for 1972, 1974, 1975, 1978-80, 1983-85, 1989 and 1991. Eight are spiral-bound, and three, perfect-bound. They average ex with a couple better, a couple less. Red Books are for 1972, 1974, 1975, 1977-80, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991 and 1992. Nine are spiral-bound, and five, perfect-bound. They average ex with a couple better, a couple less.
