Lot 380. Signature of Bobby Carpenter, “The Can’t-Miss Kid,” on Feb. 23, 1981 SI Cover. Carpenter was the first player to go directly from a U.S. high school to the NHL. As a rookie, he scored 32 goals. In his fourth season, he scored 53 goals, the most ever by a player born in the U.S. His career spanned 1981-99. Cover only with a sharpie 10 autograph personalized “To Jerry Best Wishes.” Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 512. 25 Hockey Publications - Sports Illustrated, Rare 1930s-40s Programs. The New York Rangers and New York Americans are the focus of two Madison Square Garden programs, one from 1934-35 and the other from 1940. The earlier program, which is ex, pictures future Hall of Fame players Bill Cook, Ching Johnson, Frank Boucher, Bun Cook and Frank Patrick. The 1940 program is vg-ex. Vintage hockey is captured by a 1947 issue of Collier’s with a hockey cover and an article on Babe Pratt. Covers of 10 issues of SI from the 1950s-70s feature such players as Bobby Hull, Jean Beliveau, Bobby Clarke (2), Denis Potvin and Bryan Trottier. A 1950 Babe Ruth Magazine (comic) has a drawing of Turk Broda on the cover. Bobby Orr is on the cover of a 1970 issue of Boy’s Life. A 1996-97 New York Rangers yearbook is included. Other publications feature covers with Gordie Howe, Wayne Gretzky (4) and Mike Bossy (2). Gretzky is on the cover of the first issue of Beckett Hockey Magazine.
