Lot 677.  1960s Kessler Promotional Football Statue. This attractive 45-year-old chalk figure stands 12 ½” tall. Used to promote the Julius Kessler Company, the figure sports a colorful 1920s football uniform. It is in superb condition for a vintage chalk figure. There are no chips or flakes. The stamp of the manufacturer, the Mattei Advertising Display Co. of “Louisville 4, KY” is on the bottom. The various Kessler labels are absent and unlikely to be missed.

Lot 682.  Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman Game-Used Jersey Sections from Relic Gallery. As issued, the jersey sections come in colorful 8” x 10” displays with images of the players nicely matted and ready for framing. These are limited editions; Smith is 1611 of 2000, and Aikman, 377 of 2000. Nm.

Lot 683.  3 Publications with Vintage Football Covers. The earliest is the Nov. 9, 1901 New York Commercial Advertiser Saturday Pictorial Review, which has an 8 ½” x 11” photo of a football player with a union suit jersey, quilted pants and a melon football. Inside is an article on the Columbia-Pennsylvania game. All-America Harold Weekes, who led Columbia to a 10-0 victory, is pictured. Vg+. The Oct. 27, 1934 Literary Digest has 21 college football stars on the cover and a related article inside. Ex+ with a label. The Nov. 1938 Open Road for Boys has the game’s greatest coaches on the cover -Warner, Little, Bierman, Matty Bell, Bible, Sutherland, Layden and others. The back cover has a color ad with a football player for Baby Ruth candy bars. Vg-ex.

Lot 684.  24 Books on Pro Football. 17 hardbacks, 7 paperbacks. Among the hardbacks are Mike Trope’s “Necessary Roughness,” 1980 first ed., promotional copy; Larry Merchant’s “The National Football Lottery (1973 first)” and Gene Klein’s “First Down and a Billion: The Funny Business of Pro Football (1987 first).” Eight hardbacks are football histories: Robert Smith’s “Illustrated History of Pro Football (1972),” the NFL’s “The First 50 Years (1969),” Peter King’s “Sports Illustrated Football (1996 first),” Bob Carroll’s “When the Grass Was Real (1993 first),” Robert Riger’s “The Pros (1960 first)” and Tex Maule’s “The Game (1963 first). The hardbacks are at least ex-m in dust jackets at least vg. The more recent books are nm in ex-m djs. Dan Daly’s “The Pro Football Chronicle (1990 first),” a paperback, also provides NFL history. The paperbacks, which are ex, include annuals. Among the paperbacks also are the 1992 “NFLPA Retired Members Business Directory” and “The Sporting News Football Trivia Book.”
