Lot 662.  High School Yearbook Featuring Marion Motley, Future Pro HoF Football Star. Motley played scholastic football at McKinley High School in Canton, Ohio. Among the schools opponents were Massilon, coached by Paul Brown. Subsequently, Brown coached Motley at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station during World War II. In 1946, rejoining Brown, Motley became one of the first four players to break pro football’s color barrier. He and Bob Willis joined the Cleveland Browns, coached by Brown, of the new All-America Football Conference. Motley was a Hall of Fame fullback in eight seasons. Besides averaging 5.7 yards per carry during his career, he helped to making Otto Graham an effective passer by providing outstanding blocking. Motley is pictured on Page 166 of the vg-ex 1939 “McKinleyite” yearbook, and his ability as a passer is referred to on another.

Lot 663.  Wood Bleacher Seat from New Orleans’ Tulane Stadium, home of the Tulane Green Wave, the Sugar Bowl for almost 50 years and the New Orleans Saints 1967-74. The final game there was Super Bowl IX in January 1975. Pittsburgh defeated Minnesota, 16-6. With “22” engraved on it, the seat is 17 ¾” wide x about 5 ½” deep and 1 ½” thick. An engraved metal plate says, inside a football, “My Seat from Tulane Stadium, New Orleans, La.” It also says “NCAA, NFL, Sugar Bowl and LHSAA (Louisiana High School Athletic Association).” The stadium was demolished in 1980.

Lot 664.  1939 Redskins Program with Heisman Winner Davey O’Brien on the Cover. In 1937, O’Brien succeeded Sammy Baugh as TCU’s quarterback. For the next two seasons, he played the college game better than his predecessor. In 1938, he led the Horned Frogs to the national championship and won the Heisman Trophy. He had less success as a pro with the Eagles. G-vg program with the center spread loose.

Lot 665.  1949 Eastern College All-Stars vs. New York Giants Benefit Program. Sponsored by the New York Herald Tribune, the teams met to raise money to assist disadvantaged children. The All-Stars won, 28-13. Chuck Bednarik is among the All-Stars pictured. Playing next for the Philadelphia Eagles, Bednarik was the last of the great two-way players. Charlie Conerly and Emlen Tunnell are among the Giants’ stars. Vg-ex program with the score printed on the cover.

Opponents are Michigan, California and Oregon. Average ex-m. Two other programs are for Villanova (1986, nm) and West Virginia at Rutgers (1984, vg). Ticket stubs are for the 1974 Rose Bowl vg. Penn State: 1997 vs. Temple, ex. 1978 vs. TCU, four stubs, and 1979 vs. Texas A&M, irregular tear, otherwise ex. Stanford, 1971 vs. Duke, four stubs, ex-m to nm. Princeton, 1976 vs. Harvard, g-vg. Lot 669.  1940s Original AP Wire Photos - 2 Notre Dame, 1 Stanford vs. Harvard. In a 1941 photo, Frank Leahy, new head coach, gives instructions to Bernie Crimmins, George Murphy and others. Leahy coached his team to an 8-0-1 record. Vg+ to ex. In a 1949 photo, Dick Bunting scores North Carolina’s only touchdown in a 42-6 loss. Four Notre Dame players are identified. Vg+ to ex with some light alligator cracks at the top and bottom. The Fighting Irish won the national title. The third photo shows Harvard-at-Stanford game action involving Harvard’s John White and Ralph Bender. Alligator lines throughout. These photos are about 7” x 9”, and all have captions.

Lot 671.  1930s to Early 1940s Manhattan College Football Pennant. Full-sized pennant from the Jaspers early football days, which ended after the 1942 season. The tip of this pennant was torn and reattached. Otherwise, the pennant is excellent. A similar Brooklyn NFL pennant sold in one of our previous auctions for $350.

Lot 673.  Complete Tickets: 1945 Alabama at Kentucky, 1964 North-South Game. Alabama defeated Kentucky at Louisville on its way to a perfect season and a third-place finish in the AP poll. Ex-m+ except for a tiny corner crease. The “Annual Shrine North-South Classic” was played in the Orange Bowl in Miami. Ex-m.

Lot 676.  1995 Super Bowl XXIX Ticket. San Francisco won one for the thumb by crushing San Diego, 49-26. A small piece of tape on the back holds the ticket in place in a plastic holder. Otherwise, the ticket is at least nm. Outstanding example.
