Lot 914.  2 Sports Illustrated Copies Honoring Michael Jordan as “Sportsman of the Year.” These copies of the Dec. 23, 1991 issue have a hologram image of Jordan on the cover. Inside, SI devotes 16 pages to him. The issue also features full-page photos or two-page spreads of nine other “Living Legends” - Navratilova, Gretzky, Ripken, Montana, Carl Lewis, Jimmy Connors, Edwin Moses, Nolan Ryan, Jack Nicklaus. One issue in nm, and the other, nm-m.

Lot 915.  4 Books Focusing on African-Americans and Basketball. Three are biographical, covering the lives and careers of Julius Erving and Spencer Haywood.  The Erving books are: 1. “The Legend of Dr. J.: The Story of Julius Erving” by Marty Bell, 1975 first edition, ex dj, nm+ book.  2. Dr. J: A Biography of Julius Erving: by James Haskins, 1975 stated first edition, nm book, vg-ex dj.  Haskins writes from the perspective of an educator-writer who specializes in African-American issues.  This book is comparatively scarce.  3. “Stand Up for Something: The Spencer Haywood Story” by Haywood and Bill Libby, 1972 first edition, ex book and vg-ex dj.  This book details Haywood’s battles with professional basketball.  This is a very tough book to find.  4. “Elevating the Game: Black Men and Basketball” by Nelson George, 1992 stated first, nm book, ex dj.  George provides a history of black players in basketball within a sociological context.

Lot 917.  1953-54 Harlem Globetrotters Pictorial Program. Hall of Fame member William “Pop” Gates is among the Globetrotters pictured in this 24-page program. Gates was a 6’2” forward and team captain. The program focuses on the Globetrotters’ world travels - to Egypt, London, Belgium, Spain, Italy and other countries. Owner Abe Saperstein is profiled. Extensively illustrated vg-ex program with an ex appearance.

Lot 918.  Pro, College Basketball Ticket Stubs and Schedules. Two stubs are for the NCAA Finals, including one for the championship game, at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. Indiana defeated UCLA, 86-68. The stubs are vg to vg+ and look better. Another stub is for the Big East championship in 1990, vg. The other college tickets are from Villanova game, including two full decorative tickets for the Wildcats inaugural game at the CoreStates Center in 1996. Ex-m. There also are two full student-faculty 1977 tickets for a Ball State game, nm+. Also, six stubs for 1991 or 1995 games. The pro stubs are for five Philadelphia 76ers games in 1976 and 1977, ex. Accompanying them are pocket schedules for 1975-76 (2) and 1976-77, all ex. A 1971-72 schedule from the NBA itself is in a 3 ½” x 8 ½” seven-panel format. Ex. Completing this group are a 1972-73 “Pro Basketball Guide” and a 1974-75 “Basketball Guide,” both from Snibbe Publications, ex-m+.

Lot 919.  “The Sports Encyclopedia: Basketball” Autographed by All Four Authors. 1975 hardback first edition without a dj as published. 368 pages of basketball history and statistical information. Includes data on the American and National Basketball Leagues of the 1930s. Vg-ex cover with ex-m contents. Personalized and signed by the authors: David S. Neft, Jordan A. Deutsch, Richard M. Cohen and Roland T. Johnson. Signatures on the front end-page are 10s.

Lot 920.  9 Photos Pertaining to Bob Cousy, Including 1 Signed by Dave Cowens. These photos came from Cousy’s personal collection. Six show Cousy himself. Highlights include one of Cousy as a very young man and another of Cousy with Cowens, who signed the photo after writing a brief note thanking Cousy. Green sharpie signature is 10 of 10. Other pictures show Red Auerbach and Al “Doggie” Julian, Hall of Fame coach who tutored Cousy in basketball at Holy Cross. Photos are at least 8” x 10” and average ex+.

Lot 921.  Original 11 ½” x 16 ½” Pastel Drawing of Larry Bird by an artist identified only as Laura. One-of-a-kind item to have Bird sign. Drawing was given to “Mary & Gig, a Couple of Bird’ Watcher,” by Laura. Ex-m.
